Åberg & Fitzpatrick vs Scheffler & Henley | Full Match Highlights | 2025 Ryder Cup
45th RDER Cup. This is match number two, a forsomes match between the European team represented by Ludvig Ober and Matt Fitzpatrick against the United States of America team represented by Scotty Sheffler and Russell Henley. When you’re standing there with your arm around your partner, you don’t want a tremor in your hand. He and Scotty Sheffller went headto-head in Forsoms in Rome. It was one of the most dominant performances ever seen in the Ryder Cup. A 9 and seven margin with Victor Hogland. This time has the company of Matt Fitzpatrick. Perfect. And for the USA, it’s Russell Henley. Little bit of a tight swing there for Russell. A little tough shot after the all that excitement for Russell on the first hole to the US. 148 yds. Not a big shot. Oh, right into that mound. That slope. Is it going to stay? It’s trickling backwards. Fitzpatrick at 75 yds. I mean, dead middle of the fairway. On any other normal day, this this is within 3 ft. For the RDER Cup, though, it’s a little more challenging. Coming in low, skip, skip, stop. Four feet in the RDER Cup. It’s not bad. It’s not bad if you if you want it there. What a beautiful shot. Beautiful putting surfaces and nobody else has been on them front of these guys this morning. Just outside the circle of friendship I think. 100% right, Scotty. Threewoods down the middle of the fairway. Perfect. Russell Henley just middle of the fairway. little wedge in his hand as we saw earlier. Got to hit this long. Got to hit it right if you can. Use a slope. This is what Bryson did. Kind of got it right at the flag and then it kind of cameras right back to the hole. Low judge once again. Well, we saw that putt earlier, so I might run out there and tell him what it does. Don’t you dare. You need to tell the captain still. Another one who puts a fair bit of spin on it there. Both Europeans have gone left of the flag. Big advantage there for USA. It’s Patrick for his birdie. Excellent put seconds though. There’s that flick up the hill. Oh, great chance for America to get that one back that they don’t after Rome. Scotty Sheffller said it can’t be understated how difficult that loss was for them. And you’ve got to wait a very long time for your redemption with that on your mind. Well, we know it comes a little bit off the right. Speed not an issue. As you said, Sam, these greens, no one’s been on them. I mean, the course has been I think shut down for a bit to get it absolutely perfect. The conditions are amazing. I mean, this easy as it gets for these guys right in the middle. Back to all square. It was never anywhere else. number one in the world. Showing why he is. All right, back to the par three. Somewhere back there is the world number three, perhaps the most anonymous world number three you’ve ever come across. Russell Henley 212 pin kind of that middle left. Probably looking it’s going to look about 15 ft right of it and try to get it up in the air. This is our third straight ball. tug left but with a great bounce gets it back up on the green about 30 35 ft from there. Nicely done. Now the response from Europe. One of the best swingers we have. This is turning left as well. Will it carry up the back? No, it won’t. Now back out to the third and Fitzpatrick, cross-hated chipping technique, uphill pitch judged perfectly. His short game is pretty incredible. And that all started as a a practice routine and he liked it so much he stuck with it. Scotty Sheffller 30 plus feet a number three to win the hole. Well judged. Really good putt. Assuming it will be given and it and it was to four with Oberg. Oberg staring at it. Think he likes it. Just left of the flag. It’s a great shot though. He’s got 25 ft. Scotty Shuffler in the bunker short of the short of this hole. Not much green to work with. He’s going to have to fly as high as he can. Put a little spin on it. Just like that. Good shot, but uh US not in the best place on this the fourth. Let’s roll it back to the fourth. This the Eagle part for Fitzpatrick to win the hole to go one up. He’s got so such a smooth stroke. Feels like every time he hits a putt, no matter the distance, it’s got a chance to go in. Really good putt there, but just a little bit uh too hard. Scotty Shuffler, I mean Russell Henley, sorry. Oh, wow. Just burned the edge there. Now Europe has a chance to win the hole. This to win the hole with a birdie for Oberg, which they do with two parts there at the par five. Their second birdie of the day through four holes. Great shot of Oberg on the fifth T. He’s watching. It means it’s not quite perfect. Sitting up like a coconut. That should be fine. Russell Henley after hitting it left on one trying to get back to his rhythm. He’s one of the straightest players on the PJ tour. I think that’s why the US love this kind of partnership with him and Scotty. They thought they could just kind of pound fairways and greens all day in this forome format. Striped it down the middle, picked up the tee, dead center. The most roll we’ve seen today about 5 ft. Good drive. Looks like Randy Smith is in the background. Scottish’s coach since he was basically picked up a club. PG of America teacher. One of the best. They’re going just left of the flag here as we saw that pin is front right. Fits Scotty’s shot shape so well. He just loves to hit a little peeling fade as he did right there. That is textbook. That was well done right there. That was right on quue from Scotty Sheffller. Fitzpatrick. Oh my. All right, back to five. This to tie the hole. Not to be for Russell Henley. That means that Aberg and Fitzpatrick go two up in that second match. So we go to six. The Bernie part for Fitzpatrick here. Oh, really good look. And Fitzpatrick has hold some nice putts already in my mind. He he he went off for a little while with a putter, but when he first came out on tour and I think he’s got his putting eyes back on. One of the best putters in the world. Right on Q. Birdie putt still to come as well from the US side, but in it goes first for Europe. It’s always nice to get in there first though, isn’t it Sam? Just kind of put extra pressure on. Absolutely. This part of his game, Jay, has improved out of sight. You’re on 140 places in terms of strokes game putting for Scotty Sheffller since Rome. It’s really amazing how he’s improved his He’s improved, it seems, every part of his game because he spread eagled the rest of the world in world ranking points. And everyone else is getting better. He just keeps getting better at a at a higher rate than everyone else. It’s just amazing what he’s done. But if if he does have a weakness in his game, it it is the putting. Huge pressure here. Two down. You cannot afford to miss this and go three down. Looking for a little right to left. Not that much. No, he misread that I think. Europe go three up. Oh, Bergen Fitzpatrick know his favorite format foromes for the number one in the world. It’s Patrick second at seven just in the rough coming over this his seven wood. It’s a good flight shouting sit. Oh, it’s a great shot from that line. He’s played beautifully so far. Fitzpatrick. Now Sheffller’s turn. And from the fairway, a good angle and less than a stellar shot there from Scotty to be honest with you. And he’s going to give the Europeans a line as well on the Henley putt. Henley from long range. Good pace. Good putt. Ober got a a reasonable look from Henley. It’s always good when your opponent hits a putt on the center line and hits at the correct pace. If you don’t hit it the correct pace, then it’s you’re not learning much to win the hole. Oh, that was unlucky there. That is unbelievable. That got an awful lot of hole to not go in. Fitzpatrick on the T8 doesn’t really suit his ball shape. That front right hole location very good taking it left of the hole keeping it below the hole as well. Now I think it’s a different situation with Sheffler and Henley against Oberg and Fitzpatrick because of Sheffller’s presence. I think that them being three down, it’s still doable. He’s not good in forcing them. So he did lose nine and seven and one and lost the other match in Italy. Yeah, but you know it’s like a roulette. You can come up black 50 times in a row. And if you take the greens out, the next roll is still 50/50. We’re talking about shuffler here. Oh yeah. And this whole location really does suit him. Downhill shot here. Distance control is a little bit more difficult. It’s a good line. Not a good distance. No, he’s got a reasonable line and a reasonable look, but that’s a chip against an uphill left to right putt. We’ll go to Oberg at eight. That’ll be given. Americans still have a birdie chip coming this to win for Henley. They need it. Not going to make it. Oh, and that is uh well short. Not be conceded. Oh, no way. Wouldn’t give that on my most generous day even if it wasn’t a RDER cup. Is for a part for Sheffller to tie the hole at eight to stay just three down. Otherwise, it’s four. Huge putt there. Perfect spot for Sheffller. He likes it. That thing came down from the heavens, didn’t it? And it came in close from Scotty Sheffller. We see him do so many amazing things. And I I like I said I I think three down with 10 holes to go. Sheffler and Henley have a chance even though they are three down a lot will be dependent on this shot Sam. Great look to see the flag fluttering on the nine. Twirl of the club’s usually a good sign. That’s an excellent shot. Both about the same distance. Henley first at nine. That’s Birdie. Europeans inside him. He’s a great putter. He is his last tournament at uh in Napa Valley when Keegan Bradley kind of asked them all to play. He got off to a great start that week with the putter and on the weekend he went just ice cold. Oberg at the ninth chance to go four up. Great pace and walked it in. Oberg puts the hammer down and so does Europe out in that second match. Henley at 10. Henley likes to move it right to left. So that right hole location is not a good situation there for Russell. Popular spot there J on 10. It’s quite a tough hole. Oberg. He’s got the ball flight to take this flag on. Not a great shot there from Oberg. The 10th hole is tied with P. And when you’re four up, a tie’s as good as a win. Back to 11. She chef. Back left hole location for a guy that likes to move it left to right. Not a very good shot there for Sheffler. That’s uh one that typically he’s going to get inside of 15 ft. They’ve been trying to start a fire with Wetwood in match number two. He and Russell Henley. They need a big spark. That’s not great body language there from Sheffller either. He doesn’t give away much with his body language, but I mean something good needs to happen. Fitzy here. He’s in the rough, but I think this is going to work in his favor. I think he’ll be able to be aggressive and just throw a dart, not worrying about spin. I agree. I I think coming out of the rough, good angle. The only thing is there there’s a pretty good slope at the front of this 11th green that he’s going to have to get it over the top of, but he’s got about 13 yards to work with over the top of the slope. Just going through with Dan here trying to get the number because this is just all about hitting his number. hit the number and it will just stop dead. He can be really aggressive on this shot. He’s got a good lie, too. I mean, I think it’s should be. And he’s hit some good wedge shots already today. Wonderful shot. Gets it up on that top level. You can just see he hit his number pin high. Pushed it a little bit, but a great chance of a of a three from there. Henley for birdie back at 11. Just that getting caught out a little bit up that hill. Jberg to win. Oh, that’s a wide that back left hole location down 11’s fooling all of them today. Pace and line All I mean, you know, which is quite bizarre from inside 20 ft. We’ve just seen a couple of shockers. Well, let’s uh take a look at the outcome IQ with the AI powered by Cap Gemini to win the session. The percentages well in favor of Europe with 84% uh probability of that coming into fruition. Just the 1% for the USA and all of these need to drop for them now. They’re still hooked. J 1%. Yeah. I’ll tell you one thing, this putt has to go in or this match is over as well. I’ve already given up on the third game. Yeah, not number one in the world for nothing. The only reason I’m hanging on to the second game is because of Sheffler, the special things he can do. But the problem is he only hits half the shots with forsomes. Here’s Fitzy here to tie. We’ve seen this cause problems this hole, but not for this guy, I don’t think. This is like watching a fish practicing swimming. He doesn’t miss. I think that was a millimeter off the center. He’s a wonderful putter. Yeah, you’d like to have him holding your five six footers for you every single time. It would make my nerves a lot easier. Henley friendly whole location right to left ball flight. Oh goodness. He said sit. I mean, you don’t get a flyer out of the fairway. that flew probably two clubs too far. I think the left rough’s going to get a a proper look at today. It’s just the the place to come in from even though it’s not a great angle. Just takes a club off it. Seven iron there. That’s a fantastic reply. Pressure on again. There is just no letting up from Ludvig Oberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. A good look at what sheffller has over this 12th green. He’s got a nice up slope. He’s got a good lie, but not a lot of green to work with. I think the up slope will help him here, Jay, cuz this has to come in from a height to stop it. And he’s got the club face wide open. There’ll be a lot of speed through the hitting area here. Scott, he’s so good around the greens. Just didn’t get it. And body language again. Doesn’t look great. Head down, kicking the ground. What a mountain they have to climb. Well, this is a must make here, you would think, for Henley. And historically, which statistically he’s a great putter, but his last two rounds with a putter was really off. That was a good putt. Just didn’t go in, but could be even conceded here. Yeah, Scotty’s just gave the thumbs up. Five up. There’s another stat though, Jay though, that you know, statistically one of the best putters, but it’s hard to put stats on pressure. It’s hard to wipe the smile off Ludvig Goberg’s face right then as well. Ear to ear. So far just a disaster. I mean there’s not much to say about it. It’s so rough right now. It’s what it’s Europe is they’re playing so good. I mean the US isn’t giving them many holes. They’re just flat out getting beat. They’re hitting it closer. They’re making the putts they got to make. Um, this Levig Fitzpatrick pairing was a little I had a little questions about it, but I mean these guys are playing incredible. Incredible pairing. Incredible by Luke to put them out up to 13. Henley, this is his wheelhouse right here. He’s an incredible wedge player. He’s got to go right at the flag as he did. Great shot. Good call there, Hunter. Just what the US needed. They need a redo. They need a restart is what they need. But that was a good shot. Their first miss, their first hiccup today. And this is a great time for Scotty Sheffler, number one player in the world to be on the tee. They just finally got one back. You know, right now you got to visualize yourself coming back on these guys and changing the momentum completely. You know, this is a time for the best in the world to show to show everyone why he is the best and just fly it right in that hole. But get that crowd pumping up. the greatest. Let’s go, Scotty. Oh my goodness. Slight misjudgment there. Here’s Fitzy. Oh, that looks all over it. Oh, it’s a brilliant shot there, Matt. Fantastic shot. Henley down the hill for birdie at 14. Oh, what a putt there. Listen to the crowd go. A little bit of a little bit of hope there. Left left left Europe here for to tie with a with a birdie as well. So Ram did it. Canoberg. Cue the European fans now. Dead middle right. Tip for tat. It’s amazing. You see guys showing emotion that generally don’t show emotion in this in this tournament. Yeah. It’s unbelievable. you know, guys that are normally very placid, high-fiving, fist pumping, getting the crowd going, and I I just think it’s wonderful. Russell Henley on this, the 15. Really a great hole. Look at that. There’s no fairway bunkers, nothing. It’s just a dog leg left going back up the hill. You can see it so perfectly. Russell, one of the best drivers on the accuracy wise on tour. And he’s left. You can hear it from the crowd. It’s into the crowd. That’s not great. That’s That’s the thick rough. Yeah. If you can keep it in between the two thick roughs that are sort of framing the holes that the the semi so short that that you’ve got a shot. And I think he had to take that down the left hand side to try and leave Scotty with a shorter iron shot. And if they lose this hole, it’s all over. Yeah. I don’t need Camp Gemini to tell me the stats of that right now. It’s It’s pretty obvious. It’s It’s ugly. My goodness. What a performance from these two. I got to say, I wasn’t so sure if Fitzpatrick going in forsomes, but he has delivered. And Aubber’s been just a beast off the tea. Guy just pounds. It’s so hard. Well, that’s even further left. Guess he’s thirsty. I don’t know what’s surprising. Yeah. Do me four up and goes further left to Scotty Sheffller back at 15. My goodness, he gave that everything. Clearly that lie was Oh, that’s not good either. That just That’s the difference. a club length to the right there and he’s got an easy shot. We go back to the second shot here on the same hole for Fitzpatrick in Europe. Oh, down into the sand. Back to the action with Russell Henley. Oh, bit unlucky there. I’m trying to use that slope behind the flag to kind of pop it into that and let it kind of come back. Just hit it a little bit too hard. It’s amazing when things don’t go for you. 2 in less and it’s back down stone dead. I love the interviews though where both both parents both um you know just talk about how good their partners are. It’s it’s brilliant as teamwork you know. I just know I can be free flowing because I know my partner’s got my back. same as what John Ram said and they just feel they just I get the vibe they’re so united this year to try and get this away victory. That’s something that Tommy Fleetwood spoke about in his press conference how emotional the connection is and needs to be in Forsoms. You know, you’re kind of two two halves of the one person as we amize uh divert them to Oberg here. His third can’t see the bottom of the flag. Yeah, didn’t need to be aggressive. Didn’t need to be aggressive. No. Back to the action on 15. Remember that a tie on this hole isn’t enough for the US side. Well, we’ve sort of seen how quick it goes halfway down this slope, Hunter, when Bryson had it. So, this is this is actually tough to this is a really really tough part when you need to make it. Yeah. I’m not saying you would leave the flag stick in, but like at the pace this ball is going to be coming into the hole, it’s like I maybe that would help. I don’t know. I mean, this is such a difficult putt with so much speed coming down. I mean, he’s just going to like just breathe on this thing to get it down there. kind of as we saw earlier that’s you can’t get it high enough and almost you know it’s really hard that was a great touch you know two putts to win now which is you got to think doable with these guys I’ve never put a foot wrong all day I’d say Fitz is the guy you want putting this he’s he’s just got incredible touch but he wants to make it there’s he wants to kind of slam I am the door, right? And yeah, but you’ve just got to let that go and just tickle it down there and get in and get your lunch. I guess he wants to close the door softly as it just falls in. He doesn’t want to slam it in there. But, uh, I think this is huge for his confidence, right? I mean, for one and seven, 0 and like 0 and three in this format to go against the number one and three and just be clinical all day and just do that right there. Right. Softly. softly. There’s how much it means to him. Look at that. For sure. Look at that emotion. He should. That might be the biggest moment yet for Matt Fitzpatrick in a Riot Cup. His performance here today. Talk about stepping up to the plate. Oh, see confidence though. The confidence with that was actually Luke Donald picking him for the first morning. It’s a thousand% thousand%.
