Pula Golf Resort, one of Mallorca’s most acclaimed and enduring venues, is celebrating a major milestone in November as the club and hotel marks three decades since opening.

The family-run venue was founded in November 1995 and quickly established itself as a must-visit location for golfers visiting the island, a reputation that was only enhanced when legendary Masters champion José María Olazábal completely redesigned the resort’s charming course in 2006.

Resort owner and president Romeo Sala transformed Pula from a farm and historic manor house in the east of the island to a seven-time DP World Tour host and one of Spain’s most enduring venues, before his son Arnau became the club’s general manager in 2014.

The modern course is a par-72 journey through the picturesque Mallorca countryside, where players navigate hills, valleys and lakes before winding back to the clubhouse. A wide range of tee boxes ensure that the course is playable for golfers of all ability levels, from complete beginners to tour-level professionals.

Accommodation can be found in an historic ten-room hotel and 21 individual seats, with the resort’s amenities extending to a recently renovated spa and spacious outdoor pool.

Among the many highlights of the resort’s first 30 years in operation are no fewer than five editions of the Mallorca Classic on the DP World Tour, held between 2003-2007, including one year that was won by Olazábal himself; Sergio García, Paul Lawrie and Padraig Harrington are among the other stars to feature in that period.

The tour would return for the Iberdrola Open in 2010 and 2011, during which time Major champions Danny Willett, Shane Lowry and Darren Clarke all took to the course. One year later, the Mallorca Open Senior was won by Gary Wolstenholme at Pula.

The venue has also become a regular stage for charity events, none more prominent than three editions of the ‘Battle of Stars’ in aid of the fight against ALS and multiple sclerosis – with celebrities including Rafael Nadal and Pep Guardiola teeing off in the Battle of Stars, as well as other charity golf tournaments held at Pula over the years, to offer their support.

Pula Golf has also established itself as a trailblazer in the world of sustainability, a status that was highlighted when it became Spain’s first golf resort to be designated as a competitive regenerative hotel in 2021. Among the key initiatives behind Pula’s sustainable ethos is the approach taken by the rustic S’Era de Pula restaurant, which employs many ingredients grown in the surrounding island countryside or even in Pula’s own garden.

Arnau Sala said: “This milestone means a great deal to everyone at Pula. So much has changed in the thirty years since we were founded, but the ethos at the heart of the resort hasn’t changed – great hospitality, good food and a well-maintained golf course.

“Three decades of welcoming guests is a wonderful milestone, but we’re already looking forward to the future and can’t wait to see what the next 30 years hold for Pula. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every guest, member of staff and golfer who has helped to make the last three decades so special.”
