Commentary: Brandon Cawthorne & Braden Teasley

[Music] What’s up everybody? This is Brandon Cawthorne uh bringing you some commentary for the Greater Tulsa Open presented by Coral Swimming Pools and I’m joined with Braden Teasley. together. We make a B square commentary. Yes, I’m Braden Teasley, like Brandon said. Um, Bquare was his idea, not mine. Well, I’m I’m pretty square, so it shouldn’t be surprising. You are. Uh, this is at Hickey Creek Park, and if you haven’t tuned in to the round one or round two coverage, go check it out. And this is one of my favorite courses in the area. Um, it has some wooded holes, has some open holes, a lot of OB, very technical. It’s great. Yeah, we got to thank all the sponsors for the event itself for making this possible and bringing it to Tulsa and to be an A tier. Last year it was an A tier, but uh amateur only. This year, we’ve got some uh money for the pros, and that’s always nice. Uh Disc Bill’s coverage is doing the coverage and uh they’re awesome for coming out here and sacrificing their time to bring us some content. Yeah. And let’s get into our card. Carter Erenss, he’s got the lead right now. 1020 rated from Tennessee originally. Um he’s played on tour and he goes to school at Emporia State. Jonathan Fletcher, he’s uh semiloc. Tons of game. His games uh advanced a lot over the past couple seasons. been fun to watch. And a little trick there from Brucey. He’s a local one rated right now. He’s been playing great lately. And Freddy Mesa, this dude is uh fun to play with. He always brings good energy. Uh he tours from time to time and uh always a menace at any tournament you got to play against. Hole one. This is a par4. Uh you’ve got a line on top of this ledge that defines the OB for the creek. There’s a line to the right that’s kind of dividing that bush and the tree and it goes all the way up to that road behind the basket. This ditch in front of the basket is not out of bounds. There’s no standing water in it. Uh and you can make putts in there as I showed you first round. All right, Carter leading us off. He went with the backhand mid-range round two. Looks like he’s doing the same thing. Playing that little stall right in front of the short teapad. Yeah, I guarantee he worked on that to find out what his best chance was to stay in bounds. Uh, and so he loves that. Jonathan look like he’s going with a sharp edge disc here. It’s a force overshot stall back uh but not too far left. And he has played this well. He’s probably gonna be in that 300 foot range to the basket. Brucey going with the looks like fairway driver. Yeah, he’s playing that flex shot. I think this is FD3. So, he’s going stable. Just forcing it over knowing it’ll come back. And it’s just in front of the short tead. That’s good spot. Freddy is taking a little bit more of an aggressive line. If this has got some stability and needs to kick in quickly and he does. That looks to be inbounds. He may have that tree and the uh posts to contend with. Yeah, looks like he’s got right in his way. He’s going biger. I think this is definitely inside where he’s intending. It drops down though and that’s a look. Um par on hole one’s not bad. It’s been playing as one of the harder holes. Yeah, it’s difficult uh getting it in bounds. You expect not to take anything worse than a par. Uh Carter has thrown this a little hard, but he does squeak through and uh you know, it’s good to be getting those breaks whenever you’re leading the event. Caleb taking the direct approach. He’s looking for some stability. Uh he does not squeak through. So he’s going to have that 55 60 foot putt. Jonathan’s down here ways. He’s just going putter it looks like into the basket here. Playing that straight route. Yeah, he’s done that well. Maybe scare the basket. Oh my gosh. Good run. Almost made it. Shot. Giving us some fireworks pretty early on. Yeah, that’s going to settle him into the round pretty quick, too. Throwing a a shot that’s that accurate. Freddy just a little bit off the mark. Caleb looking to ring a long one up to start the round. Just a little early left. Yeah, taking par here, like uh Braden said, is not bad. Uh you definitely don’t want to be starting with a bogey, and so you’re fine with starting with a par. The birdie is kind of in that bonus territory. Uh and it looks like we’re going to have two of them. Yeah, great putt from Carter. He kind of got away with it, squeaking through the trees. Um but he took advantage of it. Jonathan’s wishing that would have gone in, but he’ll settle for a birdie. [Music] All right, looks like we got our disc and deals real deal here. Almost ringing it up for the two. Would have been something special to start the round, but he’ll settle for the birdie. Nasty shot. All right, we got hole two 362. Um, you’re looking to play either shot that just flies straight or a trapped over flex shot through this gap here that we’re flying under. Um, if you land right about here, you will get that skip back left because, uh, the grass isn’t as thick under that tree. You can also play the hiser through this right gap depending on what your preference is. Looks like Carter’s going that flex shot. And this is a little inside. These do squeak through sometimes. Uh, we’ll have to see what he has, but there are putts to be made from inside of that bunker. Yeah. And worth mentioning, the left side is all OB and then it goes up into the grouping of trees and then bends out left. Jonathan just pulls this just a little bit. Yeah, he’ll be in that 60 foot range, maybe 55. He’ll be able to give that a chance. He’s not putting towards the OB sidewalk, so he’ll be able to be as aggressive as he’d like. This is a little two nose up from Caleb. Uh Yeah, being on the back side of that bunker is where you can get into trouble because uh you’ve got to manage a couple of tight gaps before you get onto the green. Freddy’s got this little inside if it can get through and looks like it’s the last few trees there, but he’ll have a putt just right at that OB sidewalk. Hold it a little bit. See, that’s what I’m talking about. He’s still gonna have 45 feet left to try to save his par. Jonathan almost making it. What a line. Yeah, just a little more pace on it. And that was looking really nice. All right, let’s see if Caleb saved the par here. Just a little up and left. Luckily, it doesn’t roll OB. Carter for the birdie. He wanted it. He gave it all the height that it needed. Just didn’t quite get it uh in the chains. Oh, Freddy. Just a little low. Yeah, that’s one of those ones where it leaves your hand, you think you make it, and then it just dries up just a little short. Those are frustrating. Good clean up from Carter. Looks like we’re going to have all pars and one bogey. It’s not necessarily bonus birdie territory, but it’s not one that you feel like you have to get. Yeah, you really just want to get a look at it and hope that you connect on it. It’s hard to park this hole. Uh very doable, but uh it’s a very specific shot shape. All right. And hole three brought to you by Dr. Christy Disc Dyes. Die happy. Visit our website for some of the coolest disc dies around. [Music] Hold three is a par4. Uh we do have some OB lines painted on the right kind of following this ditch. Uh, and then over on the left. So, you can’t just throw uh an uncontrolled shot with a lot of distance. You have to kind of keep it right in this area. Uh, you will have to go around this down tree. That’s the the one thing in the fairway that’s uh the obstacle if you get a good drive off, throw his up to the basket, and hopefully connect on your putt. Carter going with the sidearm here, playing it down the middle. That’s high, but he gets away with it. As long as it doesn’t skip too far, he’s going to be in a great position. Jonathan, is this the roller? This is. So, this is aggressive. He’s going to need it to turn. It does. Wow. Uh, so he caught some limbs on the way out. He’s probably going to be in like the 4 to 425 range from there, which is doable. Freddy just puring this middle line. That was very smooth with a an understable disc. Caleb’s taking that middle line as well. Stands up. This is great. Yeah, that’s perfect. Is that a I think that’s a CD2. CD1. CD1. He’s been throwing that thing for a bunch of tournaments now and uh he loves that disc. Freddy going the wide hiser just looking to get around that tree and give himself a look. Dries up a little short but that’s okay. Uh he was he was pretty far back so having looks good on this hole. So there’s the road on the right side that plays OB. Uh the left side line is probably 40 ft from the basket. Most people aren’t even thinking about that. They’re going to throw the hiser and hope that they crash through the last tree. Carter going straight into the water. Yeah, those aren’t waterproofs. Well, so he would have had to take in casual relief probably 100 feet back to clear the water. I had to do that during round two. Uh it just adds a bunch of unnecessary distance to the shot. And but now he’s going to be playing with less socks for the rest of the round. But he does make light work of it. Stand still approach from there. Caleb going FD3 here. Swinging it out way wide. Little skip and Yeah, he’s going to like that. He’s at about 22 feet. Freddy to try to clean up his birdie. There you go. That’s how you do it. And that’s what Freddy’s known for is he’ll make putts from everywhere. Jonathan tugged it just a little bit. Caleb was in a prime spot off the tea. He’s thinking, I need to get this one. Bang. He does. That’s the bounce back from the bogey on hole two. He’s sitting at even on the round. Harder cleans up his birdie. So the wet feet were worth it. Birdies will make you forget all about wrinkled toes. Jonathan cleaning up the par. He’s frustrated with that one. And I’m frustrated too. He ruined our star frame. Full constellation not intact. [Music] 04 brought to you by Idio shoes. Scan the QR code and use the code disc and deals to save off your next pair. They are the best disc golf shoes on the market. All right, we got hole 4 412. Um, we’re flying down this left side. This is the sidearm gap and some of these guys got the power for it. You can throw like the sidearm flex shot or just allheiser if you got it. Um, and it kind of plays well for the distance. You can play this backhand down the right side, but you do risk going log O. Yeah, Carter likes that forehand. We’ve seen him throw this well the last round when we watched him. Uh, this is pressing the road a little bit. He’s left himself wide with maybe 40 ft. And it takes a lot of sidearm power to go deep OB. So that’s why I think it plays best for this hole. And Freddy showing you that right side line. And this is great. That’s perfect. He’s never seen a backhand gap he didn’t like. He made that look way too easy. Caleb said, “I’m going to try that.” This looks a little further inside than Freddy’s, but it’s got that forward push to it. Uh, that’s a great birdie opportunity. Jonathan gonna show us the side arm that’s inside. He hates it right away. He knows that’s the one mistake you can’t really make. Yeah, you just want to kind of miss that tree in the middle. And that’s your really your only obstacle to giving yourself a look. Oh, it looked great. Had a lot of wand. Carter looking to extend the lead. Oh, just a little high. Got a little cleanup left. No problem. Makes good. Caleb versus birdie. We can get two in a row. And he does. Yeah, he’s rolling now. Great bounce back. I guarantee he’s forgotten all about the bogey on old by this point. Jonathan cleaning up. And we’re finally to Freddy’s drive. He said that was too easy. Yeah, Freddy is a fast player. It wouldn’t surprise me if we miss a couple of his shots because of how quickly he throws once he addresses his lie. [Music] [Music] hole five. This is a par 3 424 ft. There’s an OB line painted on the right side. Uh there should be an OB line that’s painted on the left. We’ll get into that a little bit more later. I know there’s some controversy on this hole. Uh we’ll just kind of see how it plays out. But the forehand plays well. This right side ditch is OB. It is painted and the forehand will skip into that. The backhand turnover is an option. Uh and there is a a deeper on this right side that you can play as well. Yeah, Freddy looks like he’s playing that right side hiser and missed those. Oh, it’s it’s great. Oh my gosh, that’s so good. I think until you play this course, you won’t know how good that is. Yeah, it is definitely not as easy as he makes it look. Looks like he’s going back to that CD1. The middleheiser flip. This is also a very good option. Uh you’ve got to trust your disc to fade out. Man, he’s been throwing that disc good. That’s so money. That’s just knowing your disc, knowing the shot. Carter looks like he’s going down the middle. Sidearm flex shot. Needs this to unwind. Yeah, I think it will. He did this the second round. That had some good stability to it. And he’s safe in that little corner. Jonathan’s playing that backhand turnover down the left side. It’s looking okay. Oh, that’s the one you want to be. Tree kick. That might be safe. Hard to see from this angle. All right, we got a little Still looks like it might be safe. We have a little insight into what the card was thinking. We’re digging deeper, I think. So, we’re going to let the card kind of chatter on this one and we’ll touch back on it uh towards the end. Ultimately, he ends up playing a provisional from safe and from out of bounds. line. There’s no white line. So the road’s not out of bounds. Road’s not out of bounds, right? Because it doesn’t say road and beyond. So this would be for his two as if it’s inbounds. Bang. What a putt. Well done. Slow walking it in. I think he’s still got to putt his uh as if it were OB shot. He made the right call playing a provisional. We’ll square it up with the TD after the round. Man, almost makes that one too. So from his provisional, he’ll be getting a four most likely and then the other one. Whoa. Carter would we’ve not seen him do anything like that through the first couple of rounds. Wow. He’s taking a bogey. Hopefully you can shake that off real quick. Maybe the setback with the confusion on what happened right before that kind of threw him off a bit. There’s a wonderful birdie to get from Mr. Brucey. And this is from his provisional clean up for the bogey. Then Freddy will come tap in. Man, Caleb and Freddy made that hole look a lot easier than it is. Yeah, I feel like the uncertainty of not knowing what’s going to happen uh is tough. We got a real deal roll back here. Freddy with that hiser line we were talking about. Throws it to perfection. What a shot. And he’s kind of been on a roll. Oh, we got a double take also. We knew that was coming. Discals double take brought to you by Blue Sage Payments. Bang. That was probably 60 65. That’s a That’s a big swing to be happening. A two-stroke swing. And as I was talking about earlier, just not knowing what’s going to happen as you play the rest of the round could be tough. All right, hole six brought to you by Ducks Flying Disc in Witchaw area. Check out Ducks Flying Disc for anything disc golf. [Music] All right, we got hole six parlor 526. Uh there’s OB painted on this left side and the right side. Looking to swing a hiser right into here. The further you are from the gap, it kind of opens it up. And once you get up to the gap, you’re kind of picking your line here. There’s a straight option right at it. And you can go forehand turn over too if you’re pinched off a little bit, but pretty much get to the gap and then kind of scramble your way. I love this hole. I think this is one of the better additions. Yasha did the redesign, Yasha Kman, and he did a phenomenal job with this course. It’s been my home course since 1996, and I think it’s playing the best that it ever has. Freddy and Caleb showing you the hiser. We’re talking about swinging it wide. And that’s a little inside, but you can manage something from there. Yeah, it’ll just be tighter than what’s necessary. See what Jonathan does here. This looks to be flattening up a little bit. It’s kind of pressing the gap as well. His distance is spot on, though, so that’s perfect. You’d rather be a little bit deep because then you can throw a backhand turnover or even a forehand through that gap. Carter, if he’s got the distance, this will be good. Oh, that little bounce. Little bounce is perfect. They’re both going to love that spot. I would be surprised if they didn’t get up and down. Now, this is what you get whenever you’re short of the gap. You have to make something happen on a pretty drastic angle. Freddy does that really well. He’ll be happy to have a 40footer at Caleb looks like he’s going probably flippy little stand up here and Oh, that right side is just it’s tough to get through. And when you’re pinched off like that, that’s kind of all you got. Yeah, this is light work. I’d say they’re probably 180 200. Yeah, this is perfect. Great. Even if he doesn’t hit that tree and he’s at worst 20 ft behind the basket. Jonathan just looking to copy and paste that line. Rather overturn it here than not turn it enough. He does that and catches some stuff. And he’s going to have a look as well. Caleb looking to give it a long bid. Oh, just a little short. Look great. ready from a straddle his spin putt. He’s got plenty of power to be able to absolutely get this off the tree. The little connect. I don’t know. I think it may have been good either way, but uh the little tree kiss and the make. That’s a good feeling. Jonathan keeping the momentum going. Good birdie there. Carter, last putt we saw him yank and he makes good on that one. So they did put Jonathan down for a birdie on the previous hole, but that’s still kind of up in the air at the moment. Caleb with the par. Three birdies on that hole is pretty good. It’s very good. I think it said it was the eighth easiest. Oh, we got I bet I know what this is. Kiss off the tree disc and deals double take brought to you by Blue Sage Paintings. Um I’m surprised we didn’t get like a tree hug there or something. Yeah, that’s that’s some tree love for sure. All right, we got Whole 7 brought to you by Double Par Designs. Visit the website today for design help, tournament flyers, hot custom hot stamps, logos, or social media graphics. Seven, it’s a par4. There’s OB line on the fairway side of that ditch on the left and then also on the right that kind of pinches in a little bit, but gives you plenty of space to work with. You just want to throw something flat and far and then deal with your 300T approach. Yeah, this hole is definitely one of the easier ones. Um, especially with these guys distance. Um, just for landing in balance is the main thing. Not overturning it. There is a spot and in the landing zone where there’s a little bit of standing water, a little puddle, and some bad footing uh that you can land in that can make the approach a little bit more difficult, but uh it still is very doable. Jonathan, this is money. This is perfect. Gets it up to flat, stretches it out, and he’s going to be right there in that puddle that I was talking about. So, if he throws from that spot, he’ll be at 280 ft. If he uh takes relief, he’ll be at 320 ft. Carter just going smoother flip here. And this is perfect. And that stays in the dry area. He’s just throwing that disc on every hole, isn’t he? I mean, why not when you throw it that well? Why not? Gets out and gets out of the water. How about Freddy the furthest back? He’s going that middle line. As long as he misses these trees on the right, this should be good. Yeah, good shot, Freddy. He’s been putting together a solid stretch of holes here. Carter on the same putter we’ve been seeing him throw. This straightens all the way out, beats the last tree, almost goes in. He’s going to have uh 26 ft on the comeback. Jonathan thrown from in the water. That’s two people with wet feet now. And he gets a little bit fortunate to get through those limbs. He did make a little contact and those can knock you straight down and leave you in that 45 foot range. Caleb just going to stand still putter right at it. This will slide up to Yeah, he he played that hole just as intended. Carter makes good on that one. Since hole five’s putt, he has looked unshakable. Yeah, I think it was just an anomaly. Uh, you know, you got to forget those immediately whenever they happen, Freddy. That’s five in a row for him. Decent available tap in here. Hey, and we got ourselves a star frame constellation. Great hole from the boys. That’s what you expect on that hold. All right, hole eight, 446. Uh there is OB right and left and it kind of bubbles out about the 400 foot mark and this tree is kind of the thing you’re looking to beat. Um the back end turnover around it. We saw TJ go sidearm yesterday. Um like I said the OB bubbles out right here. And yeah, it’s long and straight. Just throw it far. If you hold the turn for too long and have too much air, like if this stays up, he does bring that OB into play across the path. It looks like it finds the OB on the right there. I thought he was short of it. Then again, I’m old. My eyes suck. Yeah, I could have told you that. Jonathan, this looks to be coming out of it. This is perfect. What a shot. Yeah, that’s really good. Carter, he might go mid-range. I don’t know. Now it looks like fairway driver. No one’s going mid-range on this hole. Overturns it. This needs to sit. You think that one’s OB also? That one is OB. Yeah, Freddy’s safe. He’ll go in that same disc. Of course, he’s just going to throw. He’s got that hit point dialed with this. He does. Uh he knows exactly how hard to get hit it to get the amount of flip that he’s looking for. Yeah. And that’s a great shot. Anything I’d say 45 and in on this hole, you’re very satisfied with. It looks like it started to rain. Um just a little bit there. Oh, look at that. Freddy safe. You know, you know everything. I could have told you that. Gives it a bid. Looking for the birdie. He’s probably 35, I would say. Focused going in for sure. Doesn’t care about no rain. Oh, he knows it. Just a little right. Fletcher getting the lone birdie here. Yeah, that stroke’s on folks. That stroke’s on the the field. Uh, I don’t have the stats in front of me, but I would imagine there probably weren’t more than five or six twos on this hole for the final round. Yeah, that’s a great bird to get. I mean, he got two back on the leader there. And if hole five holds up, they are tied right now. All right, we got a real deal roll back here. putting the perfect amount of turn on this to have it come back out at the right moment to 10 feet. That feels good when you watch everyone else throw shots that aren’t great. Couple of them, one of them was OB, another one was pressing OB and then they weren’t connected on their putts and you know you just got to tap into hole three. Uh this is a backhand Kiser for a right-handed player. The left uh brush line is OB, so you want to avoid that. Um, it says it’s the third easiest. I’d agree with that. You can often times get some skips if you hug the corner a little bit. And I think most people are just giving this plenty of respect to where they’re not bringing the left side OB into play unless they absolutely release it. Jonathan showed us just what you’re supposed to do on it. Yeah, that Lowheiser skip is the play. But we got a little bit of rain on the last hole. So they should skip a little bit more than they were. Just like that. Freddy. Same exact shot. I would say the only thing Oh, come on. Oh, let’s go. Let’s go. Freddy, that is the most Freddy thing ever to do. Oh my gosh. The way that he rolled his shoulders before he threw. It was like he’s like, “All right, I’m going to throw this thing in.” That was I did not know that was coming. That was amazing. Congrats, Freddy. Carter, follow that up. Good luck. He’ll dime it up and park it, but you ain’t getting the one, son. Playing the car the the hole at potentially five under par. Outstanding. That’s insane. What a shot. What a stud. He’s the man. Hold this shot out there. Okay, so Carter’s the furthest out at like 8 feet. We got a 9-footer from Fletcher and a 4-footer from Brucy. What a hole. So, what do you call that? It’s not a full constellation. That’s like a I don’t supernova constellation or something. We got a real deal roll back here. He turned around off the tea. He knew it was in. Bang. What a shot. Outstanding. That’s a good way to finish the front nine. It is. Yeah. Five under as a card. Be sure to like and subscribe, folks. Turn on those notifications so you know whenever the next videos are dropping. And we will see you guys on the back nine of the final round for the Greater Tulsa Open. Yeah, it’s heating up. We got a tie at the top. Let’s see how it finishes out. [Music]
