BENNINGTON — Mount Anthony Country Club (MACC) proudly announced the successful completion of the Golf 101 fore MAUMS students program, an eight-week introductory golf experience designed for Mount Anthony Union Middle School (MAUMS) students.

Made possible through a grant from the Bennington Sports Foundation, the program provided ten 7th and 8th grade students—many of whom had never held a golf club before—the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game in a supportive and engaging environment.

Led by MACC’s PGA Professional Ryan Howard, students participated in weekly after-school sessions at the MAUMS sports field, learning essential golf skills including grip, stance, chipping, full swing, safety, and course etiquette. The program concluded with a special final session at Mount Anthony Country Club, where students had the chance to practice putting and play on the courses, as well as celebrate their progress with a banquet.

“This program was about opening doors,” said Ryan Howard, PGA Professional at Mount Anthony Country Club. “Golf teaches more than just athletic ability—it builds patience, integrity, and confidence. Watching these students grow over the past eight weeks has been incredibly rewarding.”

The Golf 101 fore MAUMS Students program reflects MACC’s commitment to introducing golf to local youth and creating a feeder pathway for future high school golfers. With golf participation on the rise in Bennington, 2024 marked the first year since 2019 that MAUHS fielded full boys’ and girls’ golf teams—the program serves as an important foundation for the continued growth of the sport in the community.

“We are deeply grateful to the Bennington Sports Foundation for making this program possible,” said MACC Owner Maru León. “Their support allowed us to reach students who might not otherwise have had access to this lifelong sport.”

Mount Anthony Country Club plans to continue expanding its youth programming, with future initiatives aimed at making golf more accessible and inclusive for all area students.
