Can I Break My Dad’s Course Record? (Emotional)
All right, course record is back, but this time it’s personal. We’re at Belmont Country Club, my childhood home course, the very place where I grew up and learned the game. First time back here in probably 14 years playing a full 18 holes of golf. And the pressure is on because my own dad holds one of the old course records here, an 8 under 64. Today, the challenge is twofold. First, I’ve got to beat my dad. Second, if I can do that, I’m gunning for the official record. An insane 12 under par. This is fun. We’re having fun, guys. Golf is fun. It’s probably the most nervous I’ve been a long time. Just cuz I care so much. I’m going to beat you, Dad. I love you. But today’s the day. The series is simple. I get one chance at each course to play the perfect round of golf. Eight episodes in, I’ve got one record and too many failures. This one I need to get. I’m not leaving my hometown without it. I remember walking up these steps at Belmont Country Club. This is crazy. I can’t believe I’m back here. Shoot. Pretty much 20 years removed from uh playing this golf course for the first time. This is where I grew up. And um I’ll be as a short and tight golf course. I learned how to hit it straight out here. So hopefully I can do the same today and break the course record. Um, now my dad has the old course record at 64 and then Trevor Clayton, uh, who was a a good friend growing up, shot 60 out here. So, we got kind of two goals. We got two goals today. One of them is to break my dad’s course record and then the other one’s to beat Trevor. What do we got here? This is a 370 yard hole. I used to never hit driver here. I was always nervous off the first tea, but today see what I got. Let’s go in the green side bunker on the left right over the pine trees. Sequoas. I’m a little nervous. Get left. Should be fine up there on the right hand side over there. I’ll take it. See where it goes. See guys, pushed that one a little right, but I think I should be fine over the net. Um, what a deal. Coming back to Belmont Country Club. Crazy. So crazy the time that’s flown by. All the bumps. Still remember him. Well, I snuck by. Got pretty lucky, actually. Got a horrible angle to the pen. Let’s see what we got. I can skim it. Okay. Oh no. Oh, that’s unlucky. That would have been perfect, too. Crap. Well, that’s frustrating. He clipped the tree. That would have been a perfect shot, too. 30 ft. 10% slower. And it’s up the slope a little bit. Come on, Bryson. Let’s go. Okay, let’s go. That’s a big birdie. That’s That’s stupid. That is dumb. But that’s one under, baby. I can’t believe I birdied the first hole. Haven’t played her in years. You feeling the pressure a little bit? Oh, yeah. This I’m so nervous, dude. Cuz you know when they go to course, I’m like, “Okay, whatever.” But no, this is my home golf course that I grew up on. And I mean, I have the course record from the the ladies TE’s. I shot 58, but from the men’s TE’s, I don’t. Okay. 112 10:00 110 yard shot. 50°. Oh my gosh. That flew forever. Wow, dude. That went forever. Ah, I used to do so far on this hole, too. I remember that. Golly, that’s frustrating. 112. Shocked with how far it went. Well, time to get up and down. I was not expecting to be in this bunker. This is an easy hole. Usually, the first two holes are easy. And I’m kind of started off a little weird, so we’ll see. Oh, that would have been a good good birdie. It’s too hard. 8 ft. Not a bad bunker shot, but not what I wanted. Okay, good part. I’ll take that any day of the week from that position. You sure are making yourself work for it, Chase. You know how my bad my wedges are. Two holes in, you’ve sunk like what, 50 ft of putts already. It’s going to be a long day. All the memories come back. Used to step on that rock all the time. Incredible. Wow. This used to be a lot tighter. I’ve lost a lot. Big draw. Perfect. Right down the middle. Let’s go. This is the hole I was actually most nervous on. I used to snap hook it out of bounds here all the time. I don’t know why. It’s not that difficult of a T- shot, but that out of bounds really got in my head at a at a young age, and I learned how to conquer through this uh just playing it consistently and dominating it and saying, “Nope, I’m going to hit it down the middle of the fairway.” 454 yard par4. Really cool playing back here. Can’t believe it. So crazy. Can’t believe how much farther up I am. Back in the day, I was just level with the tree. 50, 60 yards. I’m 38 in the wind. I’m 45. It’s so weird because all the memories of like good shots, bad shots, you name it, come flooding back. You don’t realize it’s just 145 yard shot. It’s like I play everywhere else in the world. Stop. Don’t spin. Stop spinning. All right. Not bad. A little short. Thank you. Thank you. Yep. 90°ree. 13 ft on the two. One and a half. Five inches out. Good roll, too. Gosh darn it. All right, that sucks. Gosh darn it. I had that. That was an easy birdie for me. Thought I was going to make every putt, but nope, not today. What a great hole here. 409 yards. Have a little wedge shot into this thing. Time to smokey Joe it. Time to smokey Joe it. Chase boxes are a little small right now. All right, I’m going to really get after this one left. All right. Now, that’s not what I would usually do. Trying to hit it hard. Sweet. Well, that is just cooked. 79 yards. Well, this sucks. 5579. Let’s see what I can do here. it. Oh, all right. I’ll take that. 15 ft. This was always a semi- tricky green. Just breaks a little right at the end. This looks very straight. 15 down to two. It’s going to be 80% of the way. There we go. Another birdie. I’ll take that. I’m putting good right now. Wouldn’t you say, Chase? So, this hole we we always had the power lines going across and for the most part, we always had to hit little cut, baby cuts. I don’t cut it now. So, I’m going to go down the sixth fairway. Oh, I thinned it. All right, that’s fine. I thinned the crap out of that and it clipped it. Ah, hit it right here. We’re in a good place. I’m in the fairway. Oh, the fairway. Oh, mane dino. This is where it gets fun. If I just hit a chip, fivewood. I I don’t think I can get five five iron there. Fivewood should be fine. 256. There’s a little choke down. See what we got. I caught the trees. That’s not good. Got to rely on my short game again to get myself up and down. Man, I got lucky there. If a little farther right, that could have gone out of bounds. Um I was trying to saw it off and I just didn’t turn the corner. I left the face open. But I’ve got a good chance to get up and down now, which have to do. You got to make birdie on this hole. Down, down, down. Okay, not bad from that lie. Well, your short game’s been nuts. It’s been solid. I need wipe the ball down. Putting a little more too much pressure on myself. Just have some fun. You know, this is for fun. We’re having fun, guys. Golf is fun. Easy, easy, easy. Good stuff. Good stuff. Not embarrassing myself out here. That’s the biggest thing, like playing this golf course for so long, knowing it, being my home golf course, man. and to not make putts or mess up on shots like I kind of almost already have. It’s kind of embarrassing. So, okay guys, that’s three under through five holes. We’re cooking par four 385 yards into the wind. Hit it up there pretty close. If it’s downwind, I can get there. Not today though. Today’s just another driver set your wedges good day. This is a fun green. I uh I really like it. It’s a unique unique hole. Come on, Bryson. Start drawing it. Perfect. That was perfect, dude. Good drive. Now onto the tough part, the wedge. What a cool day to come back. Perfect day. Shoot on your old golf course. have a bunch of fun. These bunkers used to be right in my way about 285 out and now I just fly it like a seagull going south for the winter. Flew it right here too if it was downwind. Could have gotten it there. 67. It’s almost downwind right now. Why? Cool. Just over just over 9:30. It’ll be good. No, no, no, no, don’t no, no, no, no, no, no. I literally thought that was perfect. Stop spinning ball. Great shot. Great chance for birdie as they say. You know what they say. Well, that was a tap in birdie. And now I’m grinding on a little 8 n footer. 8 ft up a 4%. That’s on a massive slope. The pin’s illegal, but overcome, improvise, adapt, overcome. Let’s go. Oh, that was a good putt, guys. That was a really good putt. That’s severely disappointing. No. Oh, my heart was racing, too. I had it. I felt it. I saw it. It just didn’t go in, guys. Didn’t break. If I just have balls that don’t spin on my wedges. It’s perfect. But no, has to spin back. It’s okay. I’m nervous. 345. It’s a perfect driver. You trying to drive this thing? Yeah. It’s a driveable hole. Okay. Get left. Get left. Get left just a little. Get left. Oh, it’s just right of it. That’s perfect, though. I could hit that green all day long, too. Dang it. I just thinned it a little bit. All right. This is a Tony Romo. You feel it? I do 31 here. Going. Good shot. It came out really hot, but it spun perfectly. That’s the wedge shot I needed and need today if I’m going to break the course record. Oh my gosh, that bounced left. Oh, that would have been bad. Four under through seven. Not bad. We got to get cooking. Focus up. 219 to the hole. Little downwind. Play 215. It’s a seven iron. Get right. Get right. Get right. Get right. That was a long seven iron, but I’ve got a great look for birdie on this hole. This is one of the tougher holes in the golf course, if not the toughest hole with plenty of birdie and eagle opportunities to come. Let’s go. 24 ft going across a two. Just over two. Come on, roll this in, Bryson. This green looks really nice right now. Break, break, break. Ah, brutal. Good speed, though. Didn’t break as much as I thought. All right, that’s a par. Little disappointing, but again, this is the toughest hole out here, I believe. So, not too much damage in my opinion. Still 43 through eight. Still 400 through eight. Got to make a nice birdier eagle here to keep up the pace. 283. It’s a tight hole. Time to step up in a good hit a good shot here. No fans or butts about it. Should be money. That’s a great ball. Perfect. So, this golf course was always so nerve-wracking. The OB’s are very close and I had to learn how to hit it straight out here. And that’s honestly what I did. I became a really good ball striker because of these golf courses. Super tight, narrow. Got to keep it in play. 155. I can’t play a 45 because this is going to spin too much. So 55 just under 10:30. Here we go. Be right. Get left. Get left. Get left. Oh, that’s pin high there. That should be a great shot. We’ll see if that’s uh that close. Is it close? It seems close. Okay, good. It seems like a five sixfooter. I’ll take that any day of the week. Let’s make eagle. Get going. Come on. I’m so nervous cuz look at all the people that grew up watching me play out here also watching me. So double nerve-wracking. Can you clean my balls? I got it in the sun. I knew I’d get him on that. Oh, the one time I can get you, Chase. I’m so happy. Hopefully Karma doesn’t get me for that. 5T on a two and a half center. It’s going be 3 in out. Let’s go, baby. That’s a big eagle there. Way to finish off the front nine. Six under his pace. Six under his pace. Come on, baby. It’s getting interesting. All right, guys. So, when my dad passed, he was a huge part of this golf club. And a couple years ago, I dedicated this clock. I bought this clock and dedicated it to my dad. And this quote, albeit he never said it, felt like embodied him the best. He never met a stranger and tea times waited for him. Love you, Dad. We got some momentum behind us, but I don’t know where to go now. This has been so long. All right, I’m just going to go over this way. See if I can hit it up over the tree. Can I get it up over the tree? Nope. 364. Okay. Through there is 36 364. Okay. I got I got it. I got it. All right. 360 through to the carts. Should be perfect. If it doesn’t run out too much, it should be really good. That’s huge. Huge for the program making eagle on nine. And I love that hole, too, by the way. It’s such a test of golf on the ninth hole now. I hope I’m in the fairway. I think I am. It looks like I am. It’s a great start to the back nine. This back nine’s getable. I just have to execute. Okay, just checking out where the flag is. 82 yards to the hole. Got to clip this one. Nice. 82 downwind. Just going to play at 10 o’clock. Just over 10 o’clock. Barely over. Oh, what was that bounce? That bounce hard left. No way. Oh my gosh. This is a little bit of luck here, guys. If I make this today, easily could be the day. I mean, I didn’t think I hit that bad of a wedge shot. And that cost me a shot after a perfect drive on this hole, too. Someday I’ll learn how to hit my wedges, Chase. Yeah, it it’s just I mean you would think you would think 178 little downwind 9 iron. Wind’s a little off the left. Wind. The wind. Oh, good shot, but h not good enough. If I putt, this is just going to bounce everywhere. I got to chip it. Not good. Go left. Go left. Go left. Go left. Go left. Oh, I thought I made that. That’s so disappointing, Chase. Expect better from myself. It’s fine. Six under through 11. Plenty of golf left. A lot of eagle holes coming up. Three drivable two two or three drivable holes with a couple par fives. It’s possible. All right. Big draw here. This is how I started hitting golf shots because you know there’s par fives that kind of are little cut holes, Chase. You can’t hit these big draws. So, I never really drew the ball because of it. That’s all right. Let’s go. That was beat. Good drive. All right, good start to the 12th hole. Par five dog leg left. One of my favorite holes out here. Water on the left. Make sure to stay right. Easy birdieable hole. If I hit a good shot in there, I could make eagle 217 into the wind. 225. It’s a sixiron into the wind. It’s going to play 225. It’s a normal one of these. Normal sixiron. No. Far right. That had something on it. Son of a gun. That’s not good, Chase. Ah, that water scared me a bit. That was pitiful. I don’t know what the heck happened there. Didn’t turn it over at all. I got scared of the water left, but you can’t be scared of the water like that. I’m so much better than that. Shoot. 37 yards. That was a horrible shot. Don’t have the best lie either, Chase. But I can do this. Sit. Sit. That’s a great shot there. I’ll take that any day. Way to sack up there, Chase. That was solid. What a great shot. That’s an easy tap in birdie. Wasn’t expecting to make birdie this way, but well, it’s if I knock this in, I will take it any day of the week. All right, that’s a good birdie. A par five. It was a par five. Oh, damn. Yeah, it’s a birdie. Wow. You didn’t think it was a par five? No, I thought it was par4. No, no, this is a great par five. See, what’s funny about this whole interaction right now is that you thought I made par. I got up and down for par and you were pissed. Now that you know it’s a par five, you’re so happy. It’s like it’s just a number. That’s a four. That’s technically get getting up and down for a par. Well, no. I was I was happy you got up and down. Such a horrible second shot. But I’m saying like most people think, oh, it’s a birdie and it changes their whole mood where it’s still a four. Doesn’t matter, Chase. Still just a four. Yeah, but it’s on a longer hole. Yeah. Yeah. Let’s go with a nine iron. The ball is flying forever. That’s seven under. That’s a huge up and down chase. Huge. Cannot have that golf swing leak into my golf golf game like that. No right misses. Come on, Bryson. 177 into the wind. Playing almost 185. Oh my god. Did it again. That’s horrible. I’m get up and down here. This is really firm ground. 20 yards. All right. Come on. All right. Little too far, but it’s fine. All right, let’s knock this in. Come on, Bryson. No mess ups now. Looks like it should go just a little that way. This is such a weird little hole. It’s higher up over here. Oh, okay. Oh, I hated that. I hated every bit of that. And all of my nerves as a kid came back remembering putting on these greens cuz they’d sometimes just bounce and bobble a little bit. It’s a It’s so funny cuz I’m almost more nervous right now than I would be playing in a tournament, which is good. Prepping me for tournaments. Not a bad thing. So this hole is drivable. The next hole is drivable and 17’s drivable. And the par five on 18. So three birdies and an eagle. That’s tying the course record. I can do it. Come on. Draw the ball. Get left. No. H was right next to the cart. I didn’t draw it enough. Shoot. That should be fine, but ball didn’t draw. All right, let’s go get it up and down again. I want to hit a good drive there, dude. It was a great drive. It just didn’t draw enough. Hit a solid shot, too. Where is it? Ball be in a solid place to get up and down. Where should she be? There it is. All right. Wow. What an interesting shot. I’m going to have here 31 yards. Chase. Wow. How do I hit this? Very carefully. Sit. Sit. Sit. Oh my gosh. What a shot. I mean, I I can’t do any better than I can’t sit. Sit, sit. Go. Oh my gosh, what a shot. Pretty much straight in, man. This is so tough to read. Nothing crazy there. All right, good birdie. Great birdie. I’ll take that all day long. Eight under. So, you just tied your dad. Tied my dad with four more to play. I’m going to beat you, Dad. Oh, this is dead straight. 330. Oh, you just put your driver right by the pin. This It’s downwind. It might go long. 3wood, but three. It’s going to go short. Like right in between. Two wood. I believe it’s driver. It is driver. Come on, wind. Come on. Yes. Right on the green, baby. What a shot. Huge. That’s what’s up. Let’s go. Come on, make this nerve-wracking. Heart is beating a million miles a minute right now. It’s probably the most nervous I’ve been a long time. Just cuz I care so much. Hopefully it didn’t go over. I don’t think it went over. Yeah, great shot. Yes, that was a nice little finesse driver into there, Chase. Finesse. I’ve got to make this get to 10 under par. Something special is going to happen today, man. I feel it. Up a three. 39 ft. 40 ft. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. I thought it was going to break more in the middle. Huge. That’s a good birdie. Birdie. Birdie. That’s What is that? Nine under now. Beating my dad. Nine under par at Belmont Country Club. We’re on track, baby. It’s another cool par4 drivables. This is kind of where I fell in love as well alongside 17 and airways and holes like this where it’s super kind of quirky, getable, riskreward. Uh it’s got everything, but it’s a straightforward hole. You know, you can chip it back there and have a nice birdie putt in or you can go for it and get in trouble behind trees and stuck. And I think that’s what’s so beautiful about short par fours. Ah, this is where I have to cut it. I forgot. I don’t want to. I just want to go over. I think I’m going to go over. You should play a cut here, but I’m going over. Here we go. Perfect. That’s the drive I needed. That’s what we got. I was pumped. I was pumped. You’ve got to pump it up. Where are you? Get it out there. Oh, it’s in the rough. Oh, they put rough over here. No way. This used to be fairway. Just a straight fairway. Jack Rabbit. 79. It’s a 10 o’clock. 60 9 under par, right, Chase? That’s right. 79. Play at 75. 10:00. Come on. No. No. It’s short. Dude, I hit that really good, too. That’s makeable. That’s makeable. Come on, Bryson. 15 ft. I’ve got to get my wedges better. Got to go birdy birdie eagle to shoot 59. Man, I see this putt. How’s that straight? Oh my gosh. Don’t do that to yourself, Bryson. Holy crap. Shoot. Those wedges, man. If I had my wedges. I’ve said it every video. I’m tired. Birdie Eagle. Come on. Eagle. Eagle. Shoot. 13 under 59. Drivable hole here. 326 into the wind. It’s a perfect driver. Perfect driver. Perfect draw. Do something special. Draw, draw, draw. Dude, why is it cutting? Wow, that was such a good swing, too. Why didn’t it draw? Got to make it. Got a hole out. You go eagle. Eagle to shoot 59. I’m going to have to hold this. So, I got to go for it. Yeah, I’m just going to chip it. Okay, come on. 13 yards. Came out dead. That’s too too bad. All right, time to knock it in. Don’t ever lose hope. So I can make it and then hole out for albatross to shoot 59 13 ft. It didn’t break. I thought I was going to bounce off that first little fringe to the to the left. Put myself in a bad spot. Chase should have missed a little a little left and that have been an easy up and down and bad par. All right, let’s uh let’s keep it going though cuz I’ve got my dad that I got to beat as well. He shot eight under. I’m nine under right now. One hole to go. See if I can beat him by three. Shoot 11 under. H. Okay. Finish off strong. I don’t care what it is. Still going to make eagle. Got to make eagle. Wow. That sucks. This is a huge tree that came over and it you have to like hit a massive slinging hook around uh to get it back into the fairway. All right, I think I’ve got a good understanding of where to go. 350 just a little left of him. Perfect. Literally perfect. You could not place that better. All right, Eagle time. Come on. What a really cool finishing hole. 18th hole, dog leg left. Used to be a lot more trees, but not there anymore. It’s 585 528 yard par five. Super dog leg left. So, pretty brutal, but uh good pin location today, too. It’s on the right side, so not easy. Got to stay away from that water. 183. 190 is how far I hit my 1030 8 iron. And it’s going to play about 190. It’s a 1039 8 iron. Oh, be good. Be good. Get right. Get right. Thought the wind was going to take it to the right. Ah. It’s okay. I can knock that in for eagle. Come on, Bryson. 11 under. First time back here in probably 14 years playing a full 18 holes of golf. Maybe longer. And let’s see what I can do. 11 under. 61 would be nuts. But I’m going to beat my dad. I love you, Dad. As my dad always said, you never quit. Doesn’t matter if somebody’s beating you, you’re playing the worst round of your life. You have to give it every single ounce of energy to be the best you absolutely can on this next shot. Give it your all on the next shot. As he would say, 20footer, 2% almost two and a half. It’s going to be 23 in out. Let’s go. That was around for the ages. At least for me, it’s emotional. First time playing 18 holes without my dad. out here where he taught me to play. I love you, Dad. 61’s for you. Actually hits, man. That was cool.
What a special day at Belmont Country Club, it always hits different being back home.

He must have been a great man to have made you. Cheers to you and your old man!

I had no idea you were from Fresno. Crazy. Looking forward to watching this one!
that red crushers polo is dope!
That wedge shot on 10 did make a weird bounce left! Didn’t know your dad had passed haven’t finished the vid yet but know he’d be proud of you!
Love your videos. Your dad would proud of you!
Loved this one man… Lost my father/golf partner at age 20. This one hit home and flashed me back to all those amazing times we shared together on our home course we played so many times! Thanks for sharing, brother… Love you pops!
Nice Arnold bro lol
Aw this is awesome. My dad was pretty decent at golf but he loved it. He used to try and get me to go as a kid, but with the game being so frustrating I only went with him a few times 😂. It was just his birthday this month and 1 year from when he took his own life. It still doesn’t even feel real to me. Or like it’s even been a whole year. But anyway, I got his old old clubs and I started getting into golf recently trying to beat his best score. And now I have a 9 month old boy of my own which is sad but very awesome because I get to teach my boy things my dad taught me and take him golfing. Anyways. Sorry for rambling I feel like I needed to get something off my chest even though this probably won’t get read. But I love your videos Bryson. You’re so good and such an amazing human being.
If I could play golf like you, one thing I would not be is embarrassed. 😊
His "chatty-boi " shtick is going quirky to annoying…."I,m so nervous…Get me a ball that doesn't spin…That has a huge hole…Should be money"… Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive…
We know why Bryson is a stud. Well done dad.
You should do break 50 with your camera man. Chase
Great Playing!!
I never got to play with my dad, he died when i was a kid. Good job honoring your pops Bryson.
That first putt though…
Hole 6: "That was a good putt" Reality: Hit it way to hard. Lol
Great round Bryson! Your dad is smiling down!!
Awesome video congratulations .
Storybook ending. Nice work bro!
Broo post the video of you at airways and banks
Legendary Bryson!
I said that’s stupid, at the same time that Bryson said it on that first putt. Haha
