I got a fun one here today. This is the Maltby DRT line of wedges. These have some of the most interesting technology that you’ll find in a wedge. All for a price that you’d probably have to pinch yourself and think that you were dreaming because a head is $69 and fully built. You can get this wedge for $79 on golfworks.com. We’re going to put it through the test on a number of shots here today in some interesting conditions. It’s a little dewy here in the morning. We’re in Florida in the Bermuda, which can be sticky and tricky as well. We’re going to do all that here in just a second, but first, let’s take a closer look at the tech packed inside. All right, here’s your closer look at the DRTS grind wedge. I’ve got the 56 here at 12° of bounce. Now, a ton of options, by the way, on the Golf Works site. Anywhere from 48 to 62°. Today, I’ve got the 56 and the 52. I’ve got the DRTS. That S stands for shallow grind. There are a number of grinds available, including the shallow grind, an all-purpose grind, a gap wedge grind specifically for hitting shots in the fairway, and a glider grind, which is going to be the thickest, most forgiving bounce on their wedges. So, a lot of different options of grinds, but we’ll see how this one does with the 56. Now, these things look very, very player friendly, but they’re also packed with a lot of forgiveness. The reason is something you can’t see hiding behind this forged 1025 carbon steel is that they’ve got a ceramic matrix composite. What that is is a very hard but very lightweight material. We started to see this in some irons this year. Ben Hogan did it and Malti also did it with the TS3.5s, which is another review we’ve done here on the channel already. What this does is it optimizes the center of gravity. They say it puts it in positions that are not normal for wedges. And so they can retain these players looks, but still have incredible forgiveness packed inside. As you can see, there are a couple of different grinds for this wedge. I’ve got some trailing and some leading edge relief. We’ll see how that works through the turf. The top end, I would say, for a wedge pretty thin. It’s not the thinnest, but it’s certainly not super thick. And there’s not much offset there either. So, like I said, a very player friendly package. I’ve got these on the Score True Temper shafts and I got the Lamkin medium Superstroke branded grip. Lambkin and Superstroke have merged here recently in the golf world. So, all in all, I’d expect this to have some really nice feel being a forged wedge, but also have some really nice forgiveness with that technology packed inside. Let’s find out. Let’s take it on course. All right, one of the hardest shots in golf is what we’re going to try to attempt right here. I’ve got to cover a massive bunker and I’m shortsighted. There’s not a lot of green to work with. So, I’ve got to land it somewhere between the bunker and the hole on the apron would probably be ideal for this shot. I’m going to open up the 56° wedge. And I’m going to swing right underneath the ball hopefully with some nice quick hands. Oh my gosh, that is nearly perfect execution. And I’d like to leave it just a little left of that spot. But as terms of how far I flew it, that was that was special. Oh my gosh. Because of a little bit of a way this green is sloped, they roll out just a little bit more. But I’m very happy with that. That might be the best of the bunch. really nice that with this particular wedge grind, it’s very versatile. So, I can open it up for this shot. And this wouldn’t even be the club I would normally use. I’d normally be using a 58 degree wedge, but I’m opening up this 56 pretty wide. It’s sliding under perfectly. And that is four shots executed as good as I could possibly do. So, for one of the hardest golf shots I would potentially face out on this golf course, this thing came out smelling like a rose as far as I’m concerned. So, I love being out on the golf course. If you’ve been following the show, you know that I’ve kind of been on a weight loss journey here over the last couple of years. I lost over 50 lbs doing the show, which is incredible, but it is so hard and can be so overwhelming to really just maintain that to eat healthy when I’ve got kids. I’m coaching their baseball team. I’m out here shooting videos all day long and I just don’t have a ton of time to cook these days. So, I’ve really enjoyed using a new service called Factor, and I’m enjoying meals that are fresh, never frozen, and they make it easy to eat clean without cooking. 2 minutes in the microwave, and you’ve got a restaurant quality meal that actually fuels your day. Now, Factor just doubled the size of its menu with over 80 plus rotating weekly meals and a huge variety of cuisines. I’ve been eating Italian, American, Jamaican, Asian, everything. You can even swap proteins for free. If you love chicken but hate pork for instance, they’ve got you covered. They’ve also introduced more balanced meals for all kinds of goals from high protein to calorie smart. I’m personally on a keto diet, so I chose those ones for me and every single one I tried was unique and delicious with super high quality ingredients. For me, Factor takes the guesswork out of eating smart. Whether I’m heading to the range or filming all day, I can grab a quick clean meal and stay consistent with my goals. So, I highly recommend you take a look at Factor yourself. Head over to factor75.com or hit the link below that’s down in the description and use our code LPTFB50 to get 50% off your first box and free breakfast for an entire year. It’s a great deal. All right, we’re up here at the Forward TE’s. I’m going to pull out the 52° wedge. We’ve got a 103 shot and I’m going to try to flight this one down and we’ll see what kind of spin we get. narrow little landing area as well because we got a bunker on both sides of us. So, we got to be accurate, too. It’s on a good line. Got to give it a little bit more, though. Think we caught just the front of that green. Nice turf interaction. Nice feel off the club face. I just have to give it a little bit more oomph. That should be it right there. Man, it hit and really spun back. I still got to hit it a little bit harder, but I can already see the spin on these. Looks to be exceptional. I like them being a little heavier weighted, too, cuz it wants me to really get down on it and drive into the ball. If you watch the show, you know my misses are generally thin. I usually kind of come up on the ball with that little extra heaviness in the swing weight. I really feel like I’ve got to come down over top of the ball. When I do that right, I make a nice divot and we get a nice result like that. Again, I think that checked back a little bit. We’re going to check the pitch marks while we’re up there, but that felt really good. That is the distance I need to hit it. Just a little right of that. It’ll be perfect. I’m probably just a little left of that one, but let’s see how it reacts to the green again. Real nice. All right, I know I’ve got one a little bit better in me now. I’ve got the distance. There we go. And again, nice checkup. Let’s go check those pitch marks and see how we did. Our first one, I think, landed right in here basically. And it kind of kicked forward, which was nice. So, we actually made the green. Our second one landed right here and also kicked forward just a little bit. So, both of these are on the green, but these obviously are considerably better. We got a pinch mark right here. Kicked forward, then really kind of grabbed and stopped. And this is just past the pin a little bit. This one sort of hit the hill and it rolled down a little bit. And over here, over here, we landed just in front of the pin and rolled just past the pin. So, again, it kind of, at least to my eyes, hit took one hop and sort of stuck there. Of course, two things working against us. First off, the ball that I’m playing is not the spinniest ball out there for sure. It’s more of a distance focused ball. And secondly, it’s morning out here. It’s a little dewy, so we’re not going to get a ton of grab, but I think it was pretty ample for that type of shot. All right, so on this test here, we’re just on the fringe on the apron here, as you can see, and I just want to get a feel for speed and stopping power with this 56° wedge. I’ve got kind of a downhill right to left breaker. Hitting more of like a bump and run type of shot. See what we get. Some real nice secondary check there. I hit my landing point exactly. And now if I’m just a little inside that would be even better. I caught that a little fatter. So, we got some more roll out, but it still would manage to get through the turf even on a little bit of a fat shot. So, the bounce on this particular wedge is not a ton, but it’s probably more than some of the 56° wedges out there on the market. And the reason is is because of them being able to move that ceramic into the forging here that we talked about in the closer look. Worked out well for me there. Now, that one I caught a little thin. It might be our best one. I almost went in the hole. And I finished with maybe my best shot. I’m walking it in. I thought that was going in. Really great result. These three are certainly basically dead. And this one very makeable back here. So for hitting it in a couple different spots on the club face, very forgiving. I thought we had some nice secondary checks. And all in all on that fat shot, that probably was the most impressive because still with that leading and trailing edge relief there, the way this is mil, I was able to still cut through and still make a pretty darn good shot. So, let’s move on to the next test here. All right, for this shot, I’m in the Bermuda, which is often a very tricky type of grass for people that don’t play it. On top of it, it’s a little wet here today. So, I’ve got the ball sitting down. I see about half the ball. We want to be able to cut through the turf. And I’m hitting more of like a bump and run type of shot here going uphill. It came out of there really nice. Almost too nice. With this 56° wedge, it’s a little harder for me to control the distance for such a short shot. I’m just not used to using this particular loft. For shot three here, I’m going to make a little adjustment to try to take some speed off. So, I’m going to open up the face of this and as well as open up my body to adjust for how this will come off the club face. Should generate a little bit more spin. And certainly did. Much better result there. One of the hardest things to do in golf is to pull off the same shot twice in a row. Let’s see if I can do it. Yep. Pretty close. Pretty close. Just burned the edge. So, with a little adjustment there, we made a significant improvement. And again, I’m really uh pleasantly surprised the versatility around the greens. Let’s go to the next test. All right, hopping into the bunker here. And uh we’ve got enough green to work with, but it’s not a ton. So, we’ll see how we slide through the sand with the 56. You can see it really wanted to grab up there. Not bad. Not bad. Again, I would normally play this shot with a 58 degree wedge. So, I’m going to open this up even a little bit more. There we go. A little better result on shot two. I’m not a person that puts an incredible amount of spin on bunker shots anyways, so I’m not the best bunker tester in the uh east here, but that was sure a good shot. Let me take one more. You can see there definitely wants to be some grab. Again, not the spinniest balls I’m playing either. So, I think we’re getting pretty good results. And just for giggles, we’ll try one more. Hit that a little harder. So, all in all, a very easy wedge to play out of the bunkers. These bunkers also are a little wet here in the morning. Great sand we have at Carolwood here, but the conditions are not perfect this early in the morning either, but they’re the conditions I play. I’m really happy with those results. And with that, let’s go ahead and wrap up my thoughts on the DRT wedges. All right, so like all clubs we test on this channel, I’ve got five ranking criteria. And for wedges specifically, it’s going to be feel, spin, versatility, aesthetics, and value. Let’s start off with feel. The feel of these wedges are as good as it gets. A full five out of five for me. It’s really nice to have a forged wedge. often. Sometimes you sacrifice things like spin with that, but again, I think the technology really has made up for it. And that’s our next category. In fact, spin. I’m going to give these four and a half out of five for spin. I got some really nice secondary checkup. I think they did really well for spin in conditions here in the morning that are not optimal being a little bit more wet and dewy. So, great job there. In terms of versatility, having all those grind options as well as the way they’re ground, especially on this S grind for me with that relief towards the trailing and leading edge, very versatile wedges, I’m going to give them a full five out of five for versatility. Now, when it comes to aesthetics, it doesn’t get much better either. So, I have to give it a five out of five. And when it comes to value, I mean, it’s a five out of five. You’re not going to find a better wedge on the market for the price. In fact, you could play much worse wedges for double the price these days. Excellent release here from Malti. I love them. These things could be serious contenders to go in a lot of bags this year, including mine. Now, I actually played a round of golf with these nine holes when I was testing out the Malti TS 3.5 irons, and I hit some really exceptional wedge shots with them in a game scenario. So, check out that video. So, I’m going to leave it for you right here. But just a fantastic release from Maltby. Hope you enjoyed it. I’ll catch you back here next time on another edition of Let’s Play Through.

I am playing THE Maltby Max .90 Wedges and love the ability to change the weights
Would have jumped on the Maltby train a long time ago but the shipping/import duties to the UK is so prohibitive. The value for money just disappears.
FYI for anybody interested in the 62⁰, the posted bounce of 10⁰ on the maltby website is not correct. The club I received is a 8⁰ bounce 62⁰ wedge.
I own the 52, 56, and 62, and anyone on the fence about these you won't be disappointed.
Appear to be some really nice wedges. Wanting to see a review of the new Maltby KE4 Max Forged irons they are about to release.
My whole bag is Maltby besides driver and hybrid. They need to up their driver game imo. Had the KE4 driver didn't like the sound, feel or head shape.
I game the Ts3's , and currently have a Maxmill 56 and a TSW DRM 58 in the bag, love them!
Been looking for a a nice affordable set of wedges. This is now at the top of my list.
Takomo wedges are $99. Think I’d go that route instead!
Have a Maltby 60* wedge with Senior Shaft (I am old!) it’s a flop shot machine
Excellent! They look great would love to play them. Don’t think they’re available in Canada yet.
Nice looking wedges
LOVE my Maltby wedges. I made mine w graphite shafts just like the rest of my irons. Also did the shallow grind on my 52, that's my go-to when the grass is super tight. Highly recommended.
I think I'm going to build an all Maltby bag this winter. I really like the TS3s with these wedges. Going to finally make the switch to graphite in all my clubs.
Did you have a promo code? I'm getting $129 and that shaft isn't available… lol
I have a drt 48° wedge. It's amazing.
The max milled has some absurd offset that I'm not big on, but the drt is an amazing club.
Buy maltby or pay twice as much for the same performance
Your choice
Love my maltbys wedges and irons. Very very solid clubs for what seems to be an unbelievable price point. Trust me, you are not sacrificing quality due to the price point. These guys know what they are doing.
The head displayed at 1:42 appears to be a Tour Edge Wingman face to me, since I was currently gaming those.
Good to see good bounce options
Once these were released I bought the 48 degree gap grind and really like it. Very high quality wedge for the $$$.
Good job and keep it up the good work. Your looking good.
It's hard to see from the pics, but these have micro grooves milled on top of the standard horizontal grooves. The micro grooves cover the entire face. So if you catch one out on the toe, they still spin pretty good.
Maltby didn't leave out any goodies with these wedges!
The s grind is so good from the rough played about 5 rounds with the 58s and it’s really spinny using the maxfli tour x balls
i thought you were using the weight loss shot to improve your health
They would be a great option, but I didn’t see anything on their website for lefties.
Maltby is so good. I just got their new STi2 gen 2 irons, and they look amazing and feel great.
My DRT wedge is coming in today!! I went with the DBM finish and I’m can’t wait to try them out.
It’s my 1st Maltby club before I try a TS4 build
Thank you for continuing to be the one of the only YouTube channels to review Maltby clubs 🙏🏼
I'm spoiled living so close to the Golf Works facility in Ohio. I've been there a few times and the place is top notch. If you're looking for a great travel destination, go there and Dawes Arboretum for the day. You won't be disappointed
I just ordered one. We shall see.
Maltby lifer here. Great products!
Wish Maltby offer more LH options
You have been grinding man! Thanks for the hard work!
Gabe – I have the DRT wedges in 50* (G grind), 54* (A grind) and 58* ( also A grind), and I absolutely love them!
