Kai Trump (18), the granddaughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, will participate in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour next month as an invited player.
The AP reported on the 29th (Korea Standard Time) that “Kai Trump will participate in the LPGA Tour Annika Driven as a sponsor guest player.” The competition will be held in Bel-Air, Florida, USA, from the 14th to the 17th of next month (Korea time), and is well known as a competition hosted by Annika Sorenstam (Sweden), a female golf legend who has won a total of 72 LPGA Tour titles. Sorenstam has been close to President Trump in the past by playing several golf rounds and has received the U.S. Presidential Freedom Medal from President Trump in 2021.
Kai, who is known to have naturally encountered golf along with his grandfather, a golf lover, recently attracted attention in the golf world. He gained fame as a granddaughter of a sitting U.S. president and a influencer with 2.51 million Instagram followers, and this year, he showed up at PGA Tour venues such as Genesis Invitational and The CJ Cup, drawing attention. There is also a unique family history. It came after it was revealed that Bernessa Trump, Kai’s mother and the former (former) wife of President Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr., is dating Tiger Woods, the “golf emperor.”
Kai will enter the University of Miami as a special golf student next year. However, his golf skills are still a question mark. At the Sage Valley Junior Invitational held in March, the final total was only 52 overs 340, the lowest among the 24 participants. He is only 461th in the ranking of the U.S. Junior Golf Association (AJGA). However, he also grew by ranking second and tied for third place in the Florida regional competition from June to July.
The LPGA Tour said, “Sponsor invitation is an important way to promote new players and arouse interest. Kai Trump’s broad fan base and influence help promote golf to the younger generation,” he said, explaining why he chose him as an invited player. Kai Trump expressed his expectations through the LPGA, saying, “It will be a tremendous experience to meet great players and make their LPGA Tour debut.”
