WACO, Texas – The No. 4 Texas A&M women’s golf team came back from down five strokes and beat No. 15 Baylor by four shots to win its fourth tournament championship of the fall at the Bear Brawl at Ridgemont Country Club Tuesday.
“Our girls once again showed us how tough and resilient they are,” head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “It was so impressive to see our composure in this situation and with 25-30 MPH winds. Our intentions were to come over and get a look at a regional site that is really close to home. I am thankful we did that because this course is really challenging. But our performance was the highlight of this trip.”
The tournament was a one-day, 36-hole event with a shotgun start to begin the action. Texas A&M fired a 3-under 277 in the first round at the par-70 course which put them in a five shot hole behind the Bears on their home course. Ridgewood Country Club is also one of the 2026 NCAA regional sites.
As the wind picked up, the Aggies stayed steady and recorded a 3-over 283 to Baylor’s 12-over 292 to capture the tournament crown. The Maroon & White shot even-par 560 for thru 36 holes. The chase down marked the second time this season that Baylor has had a lead over the Aggies heading into the final round. At the Folds of Honor Collegiate, the Bears were up three shots before Texas A&M stormed back to win the tournament by three strokes.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio led the team with a runner-up finish after shooting 3-under 137 for the day. The junior was two shots behind Baylor’s Yurang Li for the individual championship.
Brynn Kort and Louise Reau notched a pair of top five finishes, landing in a tied for fourth at even-par 140. Vanessa Borovilos and Sky Sudberry also wound up in the top 10, taking home shares of ninth with 4-over 144 scorecards.
Competing as individuals, Natalie Yen, Kynadie Adams and Mia Nixon finished in eighth, tied for 37th and tied for 48th, respectively.
Texas A&M wrapped up the fall season with four tournament titles and one runner-up finishes. Its record in the five fall outings was 41-1-0, leading to a top four ranking in the country on the Scoreboard Team Rankings and No. 3 on the WGCA poll. The Maroon & White went undefeated in stroke play tournaments and won by an average of 8.5 strokes.
The Aggies return to the course in the spring Feb. 1-2 at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge.
