Tommy Fleetwood has enjoyed a stellar 2025 campaign, but he’ll face off against Shane Lowry and career grand slam champion Rory McIlroy at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links in a week’s time.
Fleetwood claimed victory at the Tour Championship in August for his much-anticipated PGA Tour triumph and then helped defeat the United States at Bethpage Black.
Now, the 34 year old just recently lifted the trophy at the DP World Tour India after competing against his former Ryder Cup colleagues.
“I’ve had such a great year, but there was a couple of things that disappointed me, and my run on the DP World Tour was one of those things. Just not being where I want to be in terms of the order of merit and things and how I’ve played when I have played this tour, that was something that was bothering me,” Fleetwood said.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will be one of the two final events Fleetwood competes in this year, as he’s returning from a break and some precious time with his family since being in India, but that doesn’t mean it gets any easier, reports the Mirror US.
Fleetwood took to social media and shared a photo of his family, saying, “Lovely evening with our Dubai gang! ! Thank you so much @asn for hosting and always looking after our family.”
Fleetwood, Lowry, and McIlroy – who tops the Race to Dubai standings – will team up with Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Højgaard, Robert MacIntyre, and Ryder Cup vice captain Alex Noren for the inaugural event of the DP World Tour Playoffs.
“I still have goals that I want to achieve in those two tournaments that I’ll strive for, and then when we finally wrap that up, we’ll look towards 2026 and see what we can do,” Fleetwood stated.
“I envision those things all the time, it’s just about making it a reality. Absolutely. We’ve still – that’s something we’ll consider. When the season ends you look at potential targets and objectives for the next season,” Fleetwood continued after the championship in India.
“I can continue and I can play Abu Dhabi and Dubai and there are still opportunities left,” Fleetwood noted.
“I’m really excited to get home and practice and prepare for those last two events and see what we can accomplish in those, as well. I was really eager to qualify for those final events, and there was that kind of added pressure as well,” he added.
Fleetwood is currently ranked No. 5 in the world and is a two-time winner of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2017 and 2018.
“Yas Links is a fantastic golf course and the atmosphere is always amazing. I’ve had some wonderful memories here over the years, and starting the DP World Tour Play-Offs in front of family and friends gives me that extra push to end the season on a high note,” Fleetwood said.
