KA’ANAPALI, Maui – Sophomore Bryson Barnes fired a 3-under round of 68 to pace the CSUN Men’s Golf team after the opening round of the Ka’anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER on Monday at Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course.
As a team, the Matadors opened with a team round of 7-over 291 on the par-71 course. CSUN, one of three teams in the field to finish over-par, heads into Tuesday’s second round in 19th place No. 21 Oklahoma holds the team lead through 18 holes at 21-under 263 and the Sooners’ Jase Summy is the individual leader at 9-under 62.
Barnes, who began the opening round on the No. 10 tee, bogeyed his first hole before making par on his next six holes. A birdie at No. 17 moved him to even-par heading to his final nine holes. A birdie at No. 1 moved him to 1-under where he would remain until an eagle 3 at No. 9 closed out his round of 68.

Nick Fry is tied for 85th at 1-over 72. Fry also had three birdies in round one.
Liam Judkins is tied for 106th at 4-over 75.
Ethan Posthumus is tied for 108th at 5-over 76 and Tavin Boman is tied for 112th at 6-over 77 despite four birdies in round one.
