Good visual here for those of you who struggle to lean the shaft forwards at impact and key to understand just a couple of concepts when watching this player. So notice how at P3 when the left arm is parallel to the ground on the back swing, the training aids, the face pro on his golf club is further from his trail shoulder than when he gets to P5, which is when the left arm is parallel to ground in the down swing. Now, this is sometimes called going from wide to narrow. This is sometimes misinterpreted as the key to having the hands forwards at impact, but it’s only part of the equation. The other element you have to learn to do is move the hands away from the trail shoulder. So, notice here as he comes down, the space between his right shoulder and the hands gradually increases. While he is doing this, his shoulder is externally rotated as evidenced by the crease in his right elbow here, uh, pointing back towards the camera. He is getting his arms and hands to overtake his torso. Now, the hands are going to be in front of the ball for the moment of impact. This forward shaft lean, they have to journey back down and across the chest. Too many times, people are trying to pin them behind their bodies, and this has the opposite effect of that which they desire. having the shaft forward so his pure feeling strikes just like he has in this picture.
