Aloha Golf Club in Marbella’s Nueva Andalucia marked its 50th anniversary with a grand gala dinner on Saturday, October 25, attended by over 500 guests, including Marbella Mayor Angeles Muñoz.
She celebrated the club as an “emblem of the Costa del Sol” and recognised its pivotal role in raising the region’s global reputation as one of the best golf destinations in the world. The event was emphasised by the club’s history of hosting elite tournaments and its scenic and very steep par-72 course, which was reaffirmed as Aloha as a cornerstone of Marbella’s sports tourism legacy.
Aloha Golf history
Founded on October 25, 1975, Aloha Golf Club was the final masterpiece of renowned Spanish architect Javier Arana, who tragically passed away before its completion. Designed on 50 hectares originally owned by Banco de Bilbao, the course was finished by Enrique Canales and introduced innovative water hazards and narrow, tree-lined fairways that challenged players amid the urban constraints of Nueva Andalucia. By 1983, under IBSA development, Aloha transitioned into a private members’ club, hosting dignitaries like Juan de Borbon, father of King Juan Carlos I.

Over the decades, its 6,293-metre layout, featuring 11 lakes and stunning views of La Concha mountain, has earned praise for including elegance and strategic difficulty. A 2023 renovation, which replaced all greens during a three-month closure, further improved its reputation for pristine conditions.
Praised by Angeles Muñoz for “elegance and professional service”
Mayor Muñoz, speaking at the gala, praised Aloha’s “elegance and professional service”, talking up its contribution to Marbella’s image as a centre for sport and wellness. The club’s legacy includes hosting major tournaments like the 1978 Spanish Amateur Championship, the 1989 International Mixed Professional won by the great Miguel Angel Jimenez, and the 2007–2012 Andalucian Open on the European Tour. In 2025, Aloha kicked off the Legends Tour with the Staysure Marbella Legends, drawing 60 professionals from 17 countries, including 41 European Tour winners, boosting local tourism by an estimated 20 per cent during peak seasons.
The anniversary celebrations began with the February Staysure event and culminated in the October gala, showcasing Aloha’s “gran familia” spirit through member gatherings and legacy tributes. Esperanza Gonzalez of Turismo Costa del Sol expressed, “Staysure Marbella Legends positions the Costa del Sol as an essential destination for golf lovers.” As Aloha looks to its next 50 years, its blend of history, scenic beauty, and world-class facilities ensures its place as a jewel in the “Costa del Golf”.
