Rory McIlroy reveals one of the most effective driver drills in golf — a split-hands drill that trains perfect sequencing from the ground up.
In this video, you’ll see how Rory uses this move to keep his right elbow in front of his body, syncing his arms and lower body for effortless power.
This same sequence is what Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, and Jack Nicklaus have all mastered through their careers:
✅ Lower body starts the downswing
✅ Hands and arms follow naturally
✅ Club returns to the same plane at impact
If your right elbow gets stuck behind you, you’ll miss it right or flip it left.
Learn Rory’s fix — and finally hit drives that feel athletic and consistent.

There’s a couple of great things about it. Here’s Rory’s secret drill for syncing up the body and arms with the driver. Most of us get the club head way too far behind us, which causes that nasty slice or hook you see out on the course. Taking some practice swings with your hands split apart gets your shoulders, arms, and legs all synchronized. For me, that’s a really good feeling. So, when I go to the top, I feel like my right arm is in a great position. My right elbow and right arm doesn’t get behind me so much. So, I I love the feeling at the top and then on the way down it the my right elbow is staying in front of my body the entire time. Keeping your hands and club head in front of you will lead to more consistency and better ball striking. It’s not Sometimes what happens is I’ll get to the top and it’ll it’ll it’ll get trapped behind me and then from there you hit this big push out to the right. Subscribe for more.
