ALPHARETTA, Ga.- Charlotte Men’s Golf completed their fall season at The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Sunday (Oct. 26) in sixth place (861, -3) in a stacked field that featured six teams ranked inside of the Top 25.
This 54-hole Tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech, was played on the Lakeside Course of The Golf Club of Georgia.
COACH’S CORNER
“We put ourselves in a good position going into the final round,” said Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “With us being in the last group with Virginia and Duke, we just didn’t play well today. The wind picked up and temperatures were cooler, so the golf course was more difficult, and we just weren’t as sharp as we needed to be. This is a missed opportunity against a tremendous field that we sort of let get away, but the big picture is that there are still a lot of quality wins against some highly ranked teams so overall still a solid finish. We just needed to play better today to have an even better result.”
“Overall, I feel like the fall season was good,” continued Cabbage. “We showed signs of being a good team at times, but we also have a lot of things that we need to get better and improve in if we expect to compete with the best teams in the country. Three different times this fall we played the final round with either Virginia or LSU, which are currently number one and number two in the country, so we know what that looks and feels like. We know we can compete with that, but we also know we’ve got to get better to beat those teams. That now becomes our objective in the off-season before we get started back up in February.”
The Golf Club of Georgia was established in 1991 with the Lakeside Course designed by Arthur Hills. Then, in 1993, the golf club added the Creekside Course, which Arthur Hills also designed. The Lakeside Course features rolling terrain and undulating greens amidst scenic woodlands. Holes 11-14 have a backdrop of Lake Windward, offering magnificent views. This course has hosted the Georgia Cup, Senior PGA Tour’s Championship, Georgia Amateur Championship, U.S Open Qualifiers, and an NCAA East Regional Championship.
