Twelve Irish players will there will be no Halloween horrors when they resume their DP World Tour card bids at the Second Stage of Q-School on Thursday in Spain.
The Second Stage is split across four courses at Desert Springs Resort, Isla Canela Links, Golf Las Panillas and Fontanals Golf Club.
Six Irish tee it up at Desert Springs Resort including Conor Purcell who is looking to make an immediate return to Europe’s top tier after losing his playing rights two weeks ago.
He is joined by Dermot McElroy, Ronan Mullarney, Mark Power, Hugh Foley and John Ross Galbraith.
Rob Moran and Paul McBride are set for Las Pinaillas while Tom Dowdall and David Carey tackle Fontanals Golf Club.
At Isla Canela, Max Kennedy rolls the dice again alongside Cormac Sharvin.
Sharvin has enjoyed great success on the PGA in Ireland region after walking away from the game for a brief period.
The Ardglass man came through the HotelPlanner Tour to earn a DP World Tour card but lost his game but feels doing his PGA qualifications has given him the confidence and the tools to give tour life another crack.
“For a time, competing was very difficult, and it wore me down. But I feel my game is in a much better place. Driving the golf ball made me stop playing but now that is my biggest asset. I’m proud of myself for being able to get that back.
“The issue I have now is that I lost my game at a bad stage in my career and I fell right the way down the ranks. But now being able to play competitively on the Irish region has helped me enjoy the competitiveness again and understanding that my game is in a better place.
“I’m not in the position at my age, this might change next year, I didn’t feel like I could go and play some mini-tour stuff just with where I’m at. I felt if I could stay competitive that, when I go back to Q-School, I can definitely give it a run to try and get my card back. But that’s easier said than done.
“But I do believe that, with the way I am playing now, and if I continue to work on certain aspects of my game, that I have the ability to get back on tour again.
“If I don’t get through DP World Tour Q-School I would definitely consider Asian Tour Q-School.
“I’m enjoying being competitive again and want to try and get back into more tournament golf.”
