ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The No. 15-ranked UCLA men’s golf team landed in a four-way tie for sixth place, out of 14 teams, through the opening round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

 

Competing at the par-72 course at the Golf Club of Georgia, Junior Alex Papayoanou and sophomore Logan Kim were tied at No. 15 on the individual leaderboard, having each shot 2-under 70 in the opening round. As a team, UCLA carded 3-under 285 through the first 18 holes.

 

The tournament will continue with rounds two and three on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

 

Bruins’ sophomore Baylor Larrabee shot even par (72) on Friday. Freshman Tyler Loree finished at 1-over 73, while senior Kyle An shot 2-over 74.

 

Kim registered five birdies and three bogeys in the opening round. Papayoanou finished Friday’s action with five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey.

 

Virginia finished the day atop the team leaderboard, having shot 16-under 272. Duke was in second place (11-under 277), while Pepperdine claimed third place (10-under 278) and UNC Charlotte occupied fourth place (9-under 279). USC finished the day in fifth place (6-under 282), before the four-way tie for sixth place – featuring UCLA, host institution Georgia Tech, Florida State and Washington.

 

The second round of the tournament will continue on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Bruins return to the golf course at the first hole for Round 2 at 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT).
