MONTERREY, Mexico – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team is set to close out their fall slate when they compete at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic, hosted by George Washington, starting on Friday at Club Campestre. 
 
The 54-hole event will feature a unique style as teams will play a continuous 27 holes each day instead of the normal 36 holes on the first day with the final 18 holes on the last day. 
 
Club Campestre plays 7,141 yards and is a par 72.
 
The Competition
There will be a 12-team field that will feature UTRGV, host George Washington, Richmond, VCU, Seattle U, North Dakota State, Howard, Loyola (Maryland), Utah State, George Mason, Northern Colorado, and Davidson.

Last Time Out
UTRGV finished in 10th place at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU, with a three-round score of 866. The Vaqueros posted rounds of 300, 275, and 291 finishing just one shot behind East Tennessee State for ninth place. 
 
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada led the Vaqueros as he finished tied for 24th with a three-round score of 213 after posting rounds of 73, 69, and 71.
 
Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro finished tied for 31st with a three-round score of 215 after carding rounds of 80m 64, and 71. 
 
Junior Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 41st with a three-round score of 218 after posting rounds of 74, 70, and 74. Freshman Brock Porter finished tied for 67th with a three-round score of 225 with rounds of 78, 72, and 75 and junior Rodolphe Cicala finished tied for 73rd with a three-round score of 226 with rounds of 75, 75, and 76. 
 
Last Year at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic
The Vaqueros finished in fifth place in last year’s Monterrey Collegiate Classic as they finished with a three-round score of 854. UTRGV posted rounds of 287, 278, and 289. 
 
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque led the Vaqueros by taking winning the individual championship with a program record 203. Duque posted rounds of 66, 66, and 71 for the one-shot victory. 
 
Luis Límon finished tied for 22nd with a three-round score of 214 after posting rounds of 72, 72, and 70. Arthit Kruaprayong and Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 25th with a three-round score of 215 with Krauprayong posting rounds of 72, 70, and 73 while Gonzalez posted rounds of 75, 70, and 70. 
 
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 56th with a three-round score of 225 with rounds of 78, 72, and 75. Emilio Gil Leyva finished tied for 66th with a three-round score of 229 with rounds of 74, 79, and 76. 
 
North Dakota State won the team title with a three-round score of 838 after posting rounds of 280, 280, and 278. Loyola Marymount finished in second place with Utah State rounding out the top-three.
