Breaking Chambers Bay: 3 Golfers. 3 Goals.
All right, folks. You know exactly what time it is. Look at your watch. It is time to bring back the breaking series where we put amateur golfers up against some of the toughest championship courses on the planet Earth. God damn, dude. That’s crazy. It’s a course carved from the bones of a gravel quarry perched high above Puget Sound. Welcome to Chambers Bay, host of the 2015 US Open. This course is as breathtaking as it is brutal. Towering dunes, unpredictable lies, and greens that can humble even the best of ball strikers. Our three golfers will battle the wind, the slopes, and even their own patience as they fight what is quite literally an uphill battle. So, stick around to find out who breaks Chambers Bay and who gets broken. I don’t belong back here, dude. Now, on to introducing our players. First up, we have my guy Marco Zerati, a three handicap from Monteeka, California. He’s as smooth as he is tall, and he’s also the low handicap of the group attempting to break 80. And if his small mustache has anything to say about it, it’s no easy task. Next up, we have Jake Munoz out of Lewon, Idaho. He’s a former college baseball player and he’s got style. He’s a 4.4 handicap and he’s only been playing for a couple years. and welcome to Chambers Bay. Jake is attempting to break 90. Some would call it the safe play, but I call it managing expectations. And last, but certainly not least, my guy Chad Hardman. This Chad named Chad is the high handicap of the group. And what he lacks in golf ability, he makes up for it in positive attitude. He better have one because he’s a 21 handicap attempting to break a thousand. I mean a 100. What’s up, baby? We’re breaking at 80. How many hours of sleep do you think you got last night? Two and a half, bro. Two and a half. It’s 2 and 1/2. How’d you get two and a half? Dude, I don’t know. I was just like so excited. How we feeling? No expectation. It’s all brand new. This is uh super grateful for their experience. Really good. It’s going to be a lot of fun. It made me feel good in my soul that Tiger Tiger shot 80 in the first round in 2015. So, I was like, you know what? If the best to ever do it can shoot 80, you know, it’s like you got a little forgiveness there. A little forgiveness. I think I’m stoked to play with you today. Genuinely so stoked. It’s going to be so fun. It’s going to be We haven’t even seen Marco yet. As you can see on Marco’s bag is a young man named Charl who I’ve grown to love and trust our entire Mad Scramble Tour 2. Charl is our events manager in the United States. He runs all of our Mad Scramble Tour events. He came in I think he just landed from South Africa. Just showed up at our office and asked for a job and we gave it to him. A lot of people have said coming out to our Mad Scramble Tour is the most fun they’ve ever had on a golf course. We are announcing our 2026 schedule. So, if you want to hear about that, sign up for our SMS, sign up for our email. We love hosting events. We love bringing Random Golf Club to your towns. But Random Golf Club isn’t just hosting the Mad Scramble anymore. We’re also going international for the RGC Majors. Random Golf Club has had a great time overseas twice this year. We went to Ireland and we just got back from Scotland. Well, we’re headed back to the links in 2026, April 12th to the 19th. Eight rounds, five-star accommodation. We’re going to a sunnier climate this time, Morocco. So, if you want to be one of the 24 golfers that comes along with us to Morocco, scan the QR square and get on the wait list now. This one is going to go fast. Dude, look at this. Oh my. The breaking series is beginning again. I love it. Starts here at Chambers Bay. Dude, I’m seeing some premium balls, bro. That’s what I’m talking about. Yeah, these are fire. These are sweet, dude. Should have saved those two for the first. They played it as a par 70. You want to do it as the US Open setup? Okay. What I’ll do is give you the yardages. So, let’s start here and then play them back on two, back on three. You can go back to 205. US Open, how hard is it? Tough. Tough for every anyone and everyone. Adam Scott did say when he came out here that he comes out early for majors that he courses he’d never played before. So, he comes out 10 days early and I got to caddy for him in a practice round and he knew it was tough, but he came out here and shot 64 the final day. And from all that preparation, playing 9, 18, all those practice rounds, he ended up shooting the best round out here during the open. It was pretty awesome. The first hole at Chambers Bay is called Puet Sound. It’s a par 4, 499 yd. It plays dramatically downhill towards the sound, and it looks wide, but the slopes are hard left to right, funneling shots into tricky lies. During the 2015 US Open, Jordan Speed opened his final round here with a birdie. So, let’s see if any of our contestants here on the breaking series can do the same. Now, up on the number one T, Marco Zarate from Montego, California. Let’s go, Marco. Yes, sir. Marco just dropping a laser off the first T. Now on the number one T, Jake Munoz. All right, Jake. That’s left. I hate that feeling. Might be okay, though. We’ll see. All right. Next up on the number one T, Chad Hartman. Home of the other white meat from Portland, Oregon. Got to love a good starter. We all need a starter in our lives. That might be okay. That was the plan. That’s going to be okay. Great. Be out there to check on you in a little bit, but enjoy. Today we’re going to try and break 90. Yeah, it’s kind of a beast. So, no expectation. All new experience. Going to try and make a bunch of bogeies today. Bogeies good. Boge is a good number today. Makes me want to have a bogey salad. Now that I think about it, I feel like I get a bogey salad every time I go to the golf course. We’re going to have to get comfortable with the hybrid today. I want to aim at least 10 yards left of the edge of the B. You got it. Okay. Thank good. It’s really good. He likes it. Let’s go. Really good. Yeah, we love to hear it. Really good. Chad’s got the energy. I love it. Just 17 and a half more holes. Sixi maybe out of that line. Yeah, probably. Not an easy shot here. That was a hard shot no matter how you shake it. Yeah, that’s tough. There’s a couple bunkers up there like low left, but got same. The hardest part about being good when you’re kind of new at golf, you know what? Being good as in like having a single digit handicap, you’re kind of new to the game is that you got to need you need a game that travels and that involves getting beaten in a lot of countries and a lot of courses. See, Marco on the other hand, he’s like, you know, he hasn’t seen the pain of the world. So, he’s just head up, no, no problem, no worries. But as you get older, you know, it starts to eat you a little bit. Starts to starts to take a little short. Just short. That’s fine. That was a strike, bro. Front pin. I probably just early in the morning water. I’m closer to like 75 80 here. Okay. Here. And anything left of that pin, it’s kind of hard to hold the green. So I try to sneak it like at it or just right of it here like a flag stick out right. Such a well struck ball. You can talk to a fade but a hook won’t listen there. Good strike. We’ll get there. We’ll get there. Got to get it out of the system early. It only took me uh three balls to get it to Marco. So All right. We’re working with 134. 134. Yeah. I got no wind. So, this should be a pretty flat. Pretty pretty flat. We’re playing this the number 135. Just a flag stick or two right. Everything funnels down left. I love the follow through. That should kick off the shelf there. Not quite. This place was an old quarry. So, those were like sorting bins. They’d load, you know, conveyor belt went through, dropped them into the different bins, and then they load them up onto the train. Robert Trent Jones left them there. One of the most asked questions out here is those what are those things? Pretty cool. It was a rock quarry, gravel rock, so just different material of rock and I think they paved highways with it and all sorts of stuff. So pretty cool. Has one of the biggest lips in I’ve ever seen in my life. You know, he might have like ball markers, TE’s in there, you know. Oh, that’s long. Checked up decent. What do you think? You want to putt it? That’s going to get even better. Thought I was babying it. Oh, nice, Jake. That’s beautiful. Rolling in here. Just got to get out the uh extra swings early. All right. I would be putting this That’s what he told me to do. That’s a great shot. Just go in. Do it. I mean, that’s incredible shot. Thank you. Beg you. I don’t think it’s going to break so much at the beginning, but it’s going to take off at the end. It’s for bogey, which is part for us today. Stoked. Stoked. The downhill can fool you. And sometimes early at these Lynx courses, they’re a little slow and they’re kind of wet. Left edge. Yes, sir. Nothing more. In you I trust, Jack. My fate is in your hands. Come on, Chad. Bury it. I have to pay attention to these, huh? Nah, we’ll give that to you, Chad. I’m just touching up my head. Marco and Charl just they don’t even say it. They don’t even say it. Okay, we can clean that up. We can clean that up. Yeah, good putt. All right, two doubles and a triples. That was a good shot from down there, man. That That was treacherous. We make our way to the second hole. I feel great. I love I mean, how could you not feel great? It’s The sun is There’s no sun. It’s Seattle. It’s gray, let’s be honest. But the sound is beautiful. The people are fantastic. The golf is yet to be determined. It’s a little like Schroinger’s round of golf. You know what I mean? It’s like we’ve both simultaneously broken and gotten broken and the only way to figure out what is to do it. You know what I mean? Deep quantum physics reference from Chad. He’s not, from what I can tell, on shrooms right now, but uh definitely has had them before. Is the train there? We don’t even know. The second hole, it’s a 403 yd par4. And the fairway here actually used to be part of the old quarry’s hall road, still visible in the contours today. It also played as one of the easiest holes during the US Open, averaging just under par. Let’s see if our boys can’t bring it home with one under. Par 4 is playing 404. You just want to put something just short of the bunker. Give yourself like a 130 shot in. Anything right is fine, too. But yeah, just that bunker in the middle is what we’re worried about. Uh, big shout out to Elliot here, our longtime famed shot tracing, bird tracing, divot tracing editor behind the camera. Came down from Canada to help us shoot a breaking series. So cool. Driver’s the best club in the bag for me. Let’s go. What a feeling of confidence. Love it when Driver’s the best club in the bag. A run. All right, that’ll run. Started it right enough. Not into the bunk. Second hole. Off to a great start. Let’s see where Marco can put this. Hopefully he can find the fairway here after doubling the first. He was not expecting that. Nice. Straightened it out. Good ball, man. I have no idea how you do that, but I would I would give an important body part to be able to do something like that. I was asking him about the uh right-handed swing, left-handed putter. He said he was a left-handed baseball player. Yeah. threw left um swung left and then uh tried to putt right-handed and I was pretty heavy hand I mean pretty heavy-handed from the left side too but a little more feel from the left side the left side picked up uh golf one day I was playing with some buddies and just kind of loved it like everybody else does you know you get the bug 177 stick middle pin maybe a touchdown but early in the morning moisture I’d probably just play the number like buck 75 buck Love that kind of setup. God, what a great golf hole. Go and see the tree. Trundle. I like this. Nice ball. Y some Lynx golf right there. I love that. Little heavy. Little heavy. We’re good. We’re good. We’re on. Two putts. Link scores. Yeah, I love it. Just got to get that uh little shaky start out the way and we’ll be good. Nice ball. That sounds really good. Dude, Marco with a torge. Kick ride. Send it up. Come down. Ball. Marco. Yeah. Oh, Marco. What a shot. That’s good. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Can we come with 175? So, it’s probably going to be around 160 to the front. That’s what I was afraid of, my friend. Safety first. That’s fairway. Back in. Exactly. Dude, I like that play. Little good play. Little low runner. See, hey, when the heart’s pumping, just the club up, take a little out of it. That was a good ball. I You know what’s good when you can hear it from 50 yards away. That Yeah, you heard it. That was sick. That was That was a strike. That was sick. Go. That’ll get better. Oh, look at this money. Thanks, guys. Yeah, man. Welcome to Chambers Bay. That’s that 21 handicap golf right there. Thanks, man. This is post hump playing with the caddy. Yeah. And what a treat it is that it shot, dude. Oh, yeah. It’s a treat. I was about to say you still haven’t played with a little low, but good speed, good par. That’s got to feel great. Hey, good four, man. Thank you. Appreciate it. After a triple on the first, anyone be shaking. Never hit it. It’s all good. All right. Good bogey. That was a little shaky. Probably notice we’re marking those ones next time. short one for birdie. Oh, Marco. Good, boys. I wish I could have joined you, but honestly, I’m stoked. Thank you, sir. You you give me the put my best back to sandwich golf. Not broken yet, boys. Not broken yet. Opening hole triage turning into a couple pars and a bogey. So the team starting to turn things around. You never know these these breaking series. You just never know what can happen. Hole three blown out. Reminds me of my time in high school. It’s par three, 165 yds. It’s one of the most scenic T- shots on the golf course in my opinion. And it drops 50 ft from te to green. This hole was heavily criticized during the US Open for its unpredictable bounce, a symbol of the week’s controversy over the putting surfaces. And Henrik Stinson famously said that it was like putting on broccoli. Dude, I can’t Why do you even cut the grass back here, dude? I don’t belong back here. I don’t belong back here at all. But that’s okay. You think the championship tease has the biggest impact on the par 3es, would you say? here. Uh, I mean, there are definitely a lot more of a hike, I’d say. There’s a few holes though that are, you know, par fours, par fives that are even bigger. 205 this back left. There’s definitely a lot of 500 yard fours out here. 195, you know, playing the championships. I’m here for it. Let’s do our best. Oh, yeah. Ace Cam is live. Somebody had to do it. Oh, baby. He’s got to be happy with that strike. He’s trying to draw the draw. Mission accomplished. He’ll find it. Oh, bad break. That’s going to be blow. Yeah, thank you. It’s tough to It’s tough to get through that one. Sit. Well, that’s going to be an adventure over there. I was terrified of bunker. I don’t know if anybody could tell. Give him some love. Come on. Looked like more of a block. I couldn’t tell. That it’s just over the hill. Okay. Streamy out here. I was hoping it’d be a little little foggy, a little misty. I think this is good Seattle weather. Feels like we’re on the moon. It’s sick out here. Want to go in my line about It’s This is a complicated look. He now has a par three. It’s about 70 yards. I don’t have a 70 yard shot. That was the one, Elliot. That’s why I never take practice swings. This looks a little slippery. Get lucky. Wow. Settle down. Not that bad. Actually, it’s going to work out. A little more than 5 yards off the green, but we’re good. We can put that. Never take practice swings, dude. You just don’t just You always waste the good ones, man. I I can see how that’s true. So majestic. Great shot. Got a really good shot. Let’s go, Marco. Great shot, Marco. I’ll save that par and get back into the business. All right, we just got to make that putt. Thank you, sir. Hey, cover. We’re still getting used to like what we need to give to each other. But once we get it like really like Did you see it? I don’t know. Do I have a putt to make right now? Probably just favor right here. Okay, I like that. Is that good? You like that? Yeah, I do. Sick. It’s a good touch one there. Really good shot. That was a very hard shot. Nice shot. That is really good. I mean, it doesn’t get better than that. Seriously, I’ll take it. I’m out. Got to putt at it. It’s pretty wet outside right now, so it’s going to be a little slower coming through this stuff. You just want to get it on and it’s going to start breaking left to right once it gets up there. Okay. See, you almost want to put this about a foot out left. Chad putting from off the green. Love this play. Go up there. Sweet down there. Oh, good. That’s a hard thing to feel. That one I was always going to smash. Honestly, okay speed, though. Yeah, I think they’re struggling with the speed. It’s kind of wet this morning. I think it was wet the day before. Just like right here. waves. Bit cold, too. Let’s slow down. All right. For par wants to make this just kind of low the whole way. Yeah. Charl give him the read maybe. Uh maybe Marco will be carrying the bag for the rest of the day. That’s That’s just a fortitude putt right there, man. Nice. Thanks. Good read. Appreciate you, bro. Oh man. Hopefully Charl didn’t give him that raid. Maybe Charl has a vested interest in having Marco not to play. Well, I don’t know. Maybe this is Are they still friends? The fourth hole is a 546yd par five named Hazards Ascent. a relentless uphill climb with nearly 100 feet of elevation gain. This also played as one of the toughest holes during the US Open because most players couldn’t reach the green in two due to the false front and the wind exposure. How we feel? Getting into it. Yeah. Couple more holes. Try and settle in. Feels like we just we just cracked the book open, you know? We just started reading the novel. Yeah. Yeah. I believe in you, Marco. We’re okay, dude. I believe in me, too. I don’t know what happened back there. You’re okay. You’re good. It was just uh Nothing happened. I don’t know which one. Oh yeah. Okay. It’s a long hole. Beasty. This is a golf hole that somebody decided to have us play. Usually usually a par five diameter, but 515 par 4 up the hill. Yeah. It’s a monster. All you can eat. All you can eat back. Oh yeah. Good ball there. That’ll be good. All day. Very good. It’s the longest par4 you’ve ever played in your life. Whatever one this is. No, number one was and now this is. So, whatever we’re doing today, that’s the longest par4 I’ve ever played in my life. Great drive from Chad. Oh, yeah. That’s exactly what we need. Go. Almost got to the fairway. Did it not cover? Didn’t cover. No, dude. He smashed it. Oh no. It’s a champions tea experience. That’s I don’t belong back here, dude. Good one to get it up in the air. Yep. Yeah, dude. What a ball. Oh, Marco. Such a good swing, man. I love to watch it. I could watch it all day. As a matter of fact, I think I might. Oh, that’s that kind of That’s that kind of stuff. That’s that kind of stuff that’ll mess you up. Here we go. Little speed. That’s all we need. Great out. That is not the easiest shot in the world. Nice shot. Thanks, guys. Obviously like left is a safe miss. What is this to the front? Right on the line of the pin like like that cover 210. It’s like 193 but it’s up 20. Let’s go out left. Okay. I think that’s smart. Kind of turn it into a Yeah. Yeah. Let’s try and get up and down. There’s a big shot here. A lot of places he does not want to put this ball. For example, short right or long left. Oh, heavy. That’s just one of these tricky shots where, you know, he’s on an ups slope. He’s got to hit a lot of golf ball right now. It’s kind of those things where how do you zoom out? Slipped a little bit. Damn. of the hole and the experience and just swing the club the way it wants to be swung. This guy is just ready to go. How how upright is he? You know, it’s just the clubs look so small in his hand. Oh, just a broad little draw. One degree inside, one degree closed. That’s money. And he’s right there, folks. Perfectly position. It’s a great feels like he has an eagle putt, but unfortunately it is a birdie putt. Chance Caddy looking on praying for short stuff. Looks like he got it. Conservative. Yeah. I I aspire to have as much confidence in me as Jack has in me. You think I can get a good club on that to get it? I mean, I think it is possible, but it definitely will take a good strike. Yeah, I’ll try and hit it good and uh maybe just favor the left side, I guess. This one of the hardest shots in the world. He can’t see the pin. He can’t see the surface of the green. All he can see is like miles of death on his way to safety. I got eaten. Getting a quick leg pump in here. Like look at that dude. That’s nasty. Nasty work. Devious work. Have to go see a doctor. Don’t tell me. I probably next big long. Take two of the shot. I I literally had the same exact shot the day after. Glad we identified him. He’s hard to see in there. again. This is just This is just so hard. Wow. He picks it clean. Little lap. That’s a good place. Safety. It’s perfect. Made it. Perfect. Come on, baby. Go. Go. Lot. Good line. Good idea. Okay. Just make sure we’re past it. There’s kind of a little back stop. Just skip one through there and play it off the back slope. Yeah, I don’t mind that play at all. If we’re going back stop, maybe go like 10 feet out left. Okay. So, pins 35 and that back stop starts at about like 45. Okay. All right, Jake with a bogey chip. That’s a little baby. Really good shot. Go. Yep. Look like it’s just short. Maybe you can make that. Grinding. Yeah. Sweaty one. Yeah. This is a sweaty one. It’s like uh even when you want to put yourself back into safety, it’s like man, it’s hard to get back into safety. Just do something magical. It’s a good shot for there, partner. Thank you. Really, really, really good. Do something magical. Oh, great shot. Thanks, Jack. Thank you, Jack. Love to play the slopes out here. Yeah, I love that. If you couldn’t tell, it’s pretty fun. How was your adventure? Oh, that was horrible. Was it horrible? Yeah. I was like I was like, where did we Did we lose Jake? Lizzy, you did lose Jake. Lost. Marco’s got a big birdie putt here. So, dude, that’s got a simmer. Oh my god. Oh, I think it’s good. Somebody help me. Somebody stop me. Tough to gauge that speed. It’s You’re saying it’s going to go this way? Yeah. Up the hill. Yes. Yes. Okay. No ways, dude. Come from this. If you know what those islands are, let us know. If you know if this putt’s going to go in, oh man, he is just struggling with the flat stick today. Look. And again, this is one of these things that as a traveling golfer, gauging speed and read on these greens is very hard, especially I think it’s like 7:15 in the morning for these guys. I may have read that wrong. I don’t know what either like the hardest greens to read in the entire state. Yeah, they both thought it was going to fall. They They both missed the same way. Whoa, that was confident, dude. I liked it. All right, triple bogey for Jake. Not what he was expecting uh with that T- shot. That’s kind of one of the worst feelings in golf. Chad in with a double. There’s the biggest hill I’ve ever seen. The top of the hill is up here and he’s saying, “Yeah, it’s going to break up the top of the hill.” What kind of a rate is that? This video is brought to you by Marine Layer and their new Flex Terry pants. One of the biggest benefits of being an influencer is that companies like Marine Layer send you pairs of sexy pants like this to wear. Right now, I’m wearing the Flex Terry pant, which let me tell you guys, if I had my eyes closed, I’d think these were sweatpants. boys. These guys are super stretchy, especially in the waist, which is a vibe because when you’re playing golf, what do you need? Flexibility in the body and in the outfit. But the coolest thing is that if I didn’t tell you how stretchy they were, you just think they were a clean fivepocket pant. But you’d be wrong. Real talk, I’ve been wearing these for a week and they’ve ruined all my other pants because who doesn’t love a sexy fivepocket that stretches the way you want but looks classy when you’re out and about? The truth is, there’s no situation on God’s green earth, which these flex terry pants aren’t perfect for. I’m talking about watching a movie until 1 in the morning. I’m talking about going to a breakfast meeting at 7:00. And I’m talking about an afternoon round at your favorite pitch and putt. So, if you want to try out the Flex Terry pant for yourselves, which I highly recommend you do, use the code random at checkout. Get you 15% off at marinelayer.com. That’s marineer.com and the code is random. Freefall is the name of the fifth hole. 488 yard par4. Dramatic downhill T-shot going down over 80 feet. And the fairways massive contours mean a slightly offline drive can end up 30 yards from your target line. Players debated during the US Open whether to lay back or take on the left slope for a better angle into the green. Will Marco disinherit Charles Reeds in the round? That’s a question that I have. I’m feeling great after fours. I mean, steady. Jack’s got me locked in. The driver’s working for now. Knock on wood. Don’t lose it. Um, you know, we’re making like three-footers. That’s what you got to do when you’re a 21 handicap. Playing from the tip tips. The tip tips. Jake here looking for a right to left shot into an easy. Yeah, it should be short. Oh, big soft bounce. It’s a really tough fairway when you look at it. It just gets smaller and smaller as you hit it further. This is a really interesting one to see if Marco can hit this fairway. You got to have pretty good nerves to hit this fairway. I was looking for it to cut and it just doesn’t come back. Yeah. Good. Looks like it’s in the fairway. All right. Good. Well, then that’s a it’s a great line. You know, Tiger Woods always said, “You want to play a shot where if you miss straight, it’s safe.” And I really believe in that, Chad. Just way living. Just loving it. Hold the finish and drop the club. That’s exactly what it is. Love it. Got a great squad out here, folks. Breaking Chambers Bay. We’re almost into the middle of the round. 55. Yeah. Freewood. Yeah, we’ll go full Sendy. Yeah, I love this Caddy. I love that golf cart out right there. It’s a good finish line. Everything kind of works right to left from there. Sounds good. Looks like he’s from a Hardy Boys book from back in the day, you know, just so sleuththing. Just sleuth. Oh, Jake just looking for the draw. Please. He found it again. Hard shot. Ball’s 5 in above his feet. He’s hitting the metal wood. Look at Chad just throwing up a rope. 245 in. You know, he is playing to his skill level. Here we go. There you go. Marco in the short stuff. He loves it. I’m looking for a real whiz off this. What is it? His six iron here. Seven iron. Dude, sounds so money. Carry it. Please carry it. Carry it. Oh, dude. Just short. Just short. Chad just needs a small step stool. I don’t know how tall his Caddy is. Bend down a little so I don’t look like on the dot. What’s behind? Uh, safe. Anything? Yeah. Can I go eight iron just to make sure I get over? Uh, I Is that too much? I’d go I’d go like nine iron. All right. Chad’s got 100 yards in. This is where the rubber meets the road a little bit. Ah, just needs to get up. Yeah. And this again, not that this is an instructional video by any means, but take one less club and slow down the swing. That’s been my recipe for success as I’ve taken my handicap from high sixes to high fives. Go. Oh wow. Jake just needs it to sit. Lynx golf. What you’re going to find is the ball bounces on the green. Folks, you’re running about 10 minutes over pace. We’re bunched up all the way back to four T box now. So please do what you can to pick it up. All right. As is always comment on the breaking series. Now comes in a new challenge. Need to play faster. I feel like he’s got this shot. Not a big splash, but puts it nice. We got a little pace of play action going right now. Let’s go read. Let’s go. That’s tracking. Turn. Turn. Just a tad hot. Jake’s got a good par out here. Settle down. That’s hot. That’s hot. All right. And this is where you really save strokes. Just just struggling to read the greens here. Green reading is one of my favorite things in golf. It’s the most poetic and mysterious. That’s a very good putt, Chad. That’s a tough two putt from down there. Jake wants to make this one. I want him to make it too. Oh man, sir. Yeah. Sort of a dream that you kind of want to wake up from here. I love the name of this hole. Deception Point is our sixth hole. And it’s another par4 just under 500 yd long. And just like its name, the fairway appears wide, but the unseen contours kick shots into awkward lies. And the green not easy as well because it tilts back to front and anything long is basically dead. During the US Open, it ranked as the hardest hole on the front nine in top three overall, averaging nearly half a stroke over par. All right, folks. So, just to recap here, through five holes, we’re on our way to the sixth T box. We got Marco at plus 6, three handicap. We’ve got Jake and Chad tied at plus 9. Chad being a 21 handicap and Jake being a 4.4. I wouldn’t have bet that way, but here we are. Put a good one on there. Might be a little long on that line. I think that that hole turns right a little bit. Maybe not. Maybe the air is kind of thick. Oh, I love a cut. I think visually a cut. Here’s the thing. A cut moves in the direction of how we read. We read left to right. We don’t read the Quran. So, I want to see a cut because that thing’s moving so I can read it. Chad’s ball. I’m hearing it. I’m watching it go. Look at this pink line go right. That’s great. I I think we’re on pace. That’s kind of the sense that I have. I’m not tracking it super hard. I’m kind of counting on Jack to cover me just cuz my brain already has too much. But feels good. Feels good. Totally green here. No shot, my friend. That is beyond my handicap level. That was a lot of mud. A little wet, but you know what? One ball that doesn’t cut, right? It’s in play. It’s in play and it works. Jake’s fine. One-handed finish. All right. Not in the bunker. Lot of green to work with. Sit. Sit. Sit. Short grass up there. Okay. Uh, we’re dealing with 191 uphill. Charles said club up. Jack said club up. So, we’re going club up. Caveat. Chambers Bay is not the easiest golf course, folks. I have learned this. Played here with my dad on Father’s Day 2016. Yeah, that’s my golf shots don’t sound like that. Come ride as 190 in and it’s great. Yeah. Great. Every day. Let’s go. Okay, we’re getting our numbers dialed, bro. We’re kind of next to the coastline here, so I think the air is a little thicker. I think we’re just like warm, but I think it’s like 60 out. So, um, club up. That’s the the option. We’ve been short on three holes. All right, dude. I got a line. We’re good for it. Third shot into the green here. I like the hybrid. Oh, we’re sandy, boys. Oh, okay. It’s a little up and down there. That’s okay. I wanted to experience the sand. Yeah, experience. I feel like we might as well do it right now. The reason why we like to see three golfers on the breaking series is because we want to explore three different skill levels that essentially everyone watching can relate to, three different games. And you really see how the course provides challenge for everyone. Oh, dude. I’m thrilled. Right way to play it. Thrilled. There you go. Thanks, man. That hurt. Good ball back there. A little bit. It’s hard to get that speed. We We got to stop doing that. Just Hey, we’re just going to We got to stop doing that. Be honest with you. Right around now. This is making me want to play some golf, you know. Slow down. Didn’t break his good roll. Marco looking for a birdie. We need to open up the can. Open up the can. Get the read right and stroke it. Look close. Simmer, please. that right. Oh, it’s brutal, Chad. No, honestly, I say that’s a good quad. Oh, you know, at the end that lip out, that’s just kind of like it’s kind of like getting splashed when you’re already late as a bus drives by in the city, you know. 508 yds for the par 47th humpback has a landing zone that rises and falls like a whale’s back, hence the name. Brutally long par4, folks. and it plays directly into the prevailing wind during the championship. This hole showcases Chambers dunes, natural remnants from the quarry reshaped into a faux links landscape. Gray hole here. Where’s it up the hill? I’ll say Jake for a baseball player, he really fixed his slice. going on where his Oh, no. That’s got to cover. Just sit there. Sock. All right. Make it work from there. Yeah, dude. Interesting. Nice. Like it. Little low ball flight just to cover it. It’s 100. Do you believe in me? Mhm. I believe in you. This is not an easy hole as evidenced by the fact that it is the number one handicap hole. Go. The hardest hole on the property. Yeah. Holy cow. Yeah. Good shot there. Take that all day. Another green and rag. Has to be a green and rag. You got like you have 230 to the flag. 230 to the flag. It’s probably going to play like an extra 20 yards up. Then you’re going to want to hit like a 250. If you want to lay up, go left of the mounds. Uh you got a little narrow landing spot there. Let me see that. Let me see the Yeah. Take a look at that. We’re like somewhere over here. Yeah. Okay. So you can go like left of these mountains. It will cut. You think it’s gonna cut. Are you going for the flag? Uh, no. I’m going left to the flag. Money. Money. It’s exactly where you need to be. Yeah. Exactly where you Marco. Trying to stay on the green. Yeah. Like come back a little bit. Is that just short? Just short. Oh, it’s going all the way. It’s coming back. Yeah, it came back. But we’re That’s a great lead, Marco. Yeah, that’s not bad. We’ll take it. Uh we have about 183 to the pin. Everything on this hole, it’s the number one handicap hole. Everything that hits this hill is about 20 yards more. So playing 203. I think just based off of distance, I think I’m going to take him up left side just so we have a like a pitching wedge type of shot in. Leave ourselves with a hopefully easy one putt. He knows my thing. He knows. Oh, low runner. Deja vu. Get it up there. You know what? Stay on the hill, though. Wonder if you could hit driver from there. It’s okay. We’ll make a good shot from there. That’s a very good ball. Good strike, good tempo, muted finish. Oh, he loves it. He doesn’t even know how good it is cuz he can’t see it. It’s so good, Jake. Oh, that’s a really nice ball, Chad. Is that okay? I like when Chad gets through it. Little deep. That was the best iron shot. I pured it. Dancing all over these greens. Sounded pretty. Thanks, man. It did. Did it? Let’s go. I’m just thinking about this chip, dude. I want this par so bad. Love making the breaking series. It is one of the one of my favorite things we’ve ever done. I mean, I remember when we created this project back in uh 21 sawrass, was it 2021? That’s right. It just rolls, dude. God. Let’s get spin on these, huh? It’s so tough to get spin. I even left the sand on it to try to get spin, dude. Play a little dirty trick and it didn’t even work. God. Chad from downrange. Steamboat. Does that have to go a lot or what? Looks like it’s turning. Looks like it’s turning good speed. Hang out. Hang out. Go in. Get in. Oh man. Great where you hold your breath there. I was holding that hard. All of us holding our breath. I wanted it in so bad. Everybody wanted that. Everybody on Earth, everybody watching, I guarantee you all wanted him to make that putt. All right, Jake desperately needs this par putt to get things back on track. Oh, it saw the bottom and then it said, “Next stop, please.” Missed the doors. Parut also on that side. Jake and uh Jake and Marco looking at the same thing. Marco for bogey again. Doesn’t feel fair. Marco, I I feel for you, my guy. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. A little recovery. Thank that that felt good. Hole eight. Lofty ambitions, folks. It’s where we’re all at when we’re young. Par five, 614 yds. You can see Mount Reneer on a clear day from the T- box and the whole dog legs sharply left. The brave can cut the corner. If you miss, you’re in deep. I mean, dune grass played as one of the few true birdie opportunities during the US Open. Speed eagle here in round one. Oh, sick. What? This isn’t even a golf hole. This is like a farmer’s field. Great drive from Jake. Love it. Right at the middle of the fairway. This is uh not a fun hole. I hate this hole. First par five. I mean, everything feels like at least a par five, but this is the first bonafide certified par five. It’s also the first 600 yard hole I’ve ever participated in. I hate this hole. Cuz here’s the thing. It’s as if you’re hitting between two bodies of water. Chad needs to start this left. Oh no. Is that going to make it? Yeah. All right. Yeah, we might just be in that fest over there. There you go. That’s a man. That’s a He’s a young man, but that’s a That’s a big shot. Get out. Nice ball. He just grabbed. Got through that one. I know. This type of stuff just little club head. Getting a little wet here. Looks like it’s starting to rain. Coming down a little bit. All good. Um, hopefully that cuts. That’s a moment where you’re looking in the mirror. You’re looking at your own reflection in the grass right there. All right, Jake. Second shot. Three Bills. Man, he’s struggling with this hybrid on the turf here. Marco looks like an anime character right here. Sort of his uh B boy pants. I love it. Marco, you are an Abbercrombie model and you’re hitting a low stinging draw up the fairway. Fun to watch you golf, my guy. You’re going to have a sand wedge in and we want you to make birdie cut. Yeah, I mean I think Chad and I can agree. Not a fun golf hole. All right, great shot that got up there. That’s good. Yeah, keep chasing. Holy crap, dude. Great shot, dude. I’ll take that for a really horrible strike. Yeah, get off of that. The eighth hole really is a um swing beater. Just beats up your swing. Number one thing about golf, stay hydrated, stay electrolyed, and you have to eat. All right, Marco. Little wedge here. Come on. Put it in. Put it in. How about in thick, dude? It might kick right though. Kick right. Swing. You’re on. Oh, yeah. It might roll down. Oh, maybe it wasn’t too thick. No. No. Was it thick? Just a Just a Just a Just a SC. We got these little sand spots here. We’re going to use this to our advantage. Is that USGA approved? Oh, yes, it is. Okay. Right over the spine. Eh, you know, if only there was a release valve here, but there is not. Come down. Oh boy. What’s going to happen here? Is it going to come down? Release. Release. Release. Cool. I now feel relaxed. Stay on the green. Stay on the green. Stay on the green. Okay, good. Dude, I’m stoked. Chip for bird. Little chip for bird. Chipping for bird. Chip for bird. Chip for bird. I like express it. Do a little links here. Try and just skip one back there. Oh, 54. Go, Trundle. Come on. Yeah, baby. Oh, man. Go. Pretty good chip, huh? Yeah, it’s a good shot there. Yeah. Birdie putt on the way. Looks like he’s got a good read. It’s a tough one to make. That’s a long putt. All right, safe leave. Good speed back up the hill. Little little 3 and 1/2 footer for par. Oh, could it go in? Could it go in? All right, another quad right there. It’s amazing that that counts as much as some of the other shots in golf. Wow. Big par for Jake. It goes down and it drops. All right, Jake for par. That’s great. Big for the team. 600 yd par. I was scared the entire way down. Scared the entire way. Another par here. Come on, Marco. drain it. Oh man. Oh, dude. Come on. I mean, Charl did say early on he’s pushing everything, but it it looks like he’s also just overreading. God, dude, this is not okay. I think it’s the rain precipitation. It could be like the minerals in the earth or something like that, dude. God. God damn it. Going all the way up. All right, the ninth hole. was a dramatic par three. For those fans of Greek mythology, it’s named Olympus and it’s a par three, 227 yd. It’s a stunning cliffside par three playing alongside the ridge of the old quarry in the 2015 US Open. It played 200 to 240 yd depending on T setup. The winds off the sound can make club selection a nightmare. You miss short and it feeds 40 yards down a slope. Miss long and it’s gone. 230 is the raw number. Yeah. Take what? 30 off. Yeah. It’s like 35. I was going to say uh so play what? Two. I like two bills. I was going to say 200 205. Yeah. I’m not above hitting a driver. Mhm. Right. Do you think I like it? Cam is live. Marcos. I don’t know how many hole-in- ones he has, but today would be another one. Oh, stop cutting. Feels right, dude. Lucky. Oh, coming in from a different angle. Jake, enough. Just be enough, please. Looking to get on the putting surface there. Great shot. That’s all you want right here. Green slopes away from you. That’s good. Just enough. Yeah. Big dog ready to have a snack here on the par three ninth that is in Narnia cut a lot. What a beautiful shot in the hillside. That’s a that is a resting place that many a golfer finds. You got a lot of green to work with over I don’t know. There’s a theme here and that is I’m nowhere near these bunkers. I’m nowhere near the scary bunkers. What a brutal, wild, and rugged layout we have here at Chambers Bay. Such an incredible golf course. So excited that we’ve been able to host many different types of events here. We’ve hosted mad scrambles. We’ve hosted classics. Just love the idea of public access golf on the water. Major championship layouts. Yeah, it’s a little bit of an adventure. We’re a little bit in the highlands. There’s a little like upper tier up here. He wants me to try and land it soft up there. It’s a downhill lie and I, you know, it’s going to go great. Just get lucky. Maybe that’s in the bunker all day long. It’s okay. I got the club for it. It’s fine. Jake’s going to throw this up here with a flat stick. Saved by the grace of goth. Oh yeah, baby. I like this, boy. Oh, just one time. Do it for him. Taking the same for you two. What a putt. Great try. What a putt. Now you know. He’s starting to get his feel. Really good shot. Okay, good. Pretty much a mathematical reality here. When you go left on that hillside, you are going to end up in the bunker. So on some level, we might as well aim for the bunker in the beginning like Marco did here. Let’s see if we can get up and down. It’s a nice bunker swing here. Nice and smooth. Tempo is easy. He’s not lashing out. See how it goes. Oh, did it check up? Yeah, it checked up. This be a fun one to make. Be a sick up and down. All right, Chad for bogey. This would be a big bogey here. Roll it in. Oh, it looked like it was going to fall. Ah, that hurts the soul right there. I’m right in your line. I’m No, you’re fine. And it’s down. Don’t Don’t look Don’t zoom in on that one. Big par putt here. Let’s see if we can put this thing inside. Oh, it looks so Hit it there. Good. And it stops. That was in the teeth. Come on. Still good data point to have. Good roll. Good pop. Looks like Jake’s our man with a chance here as we end up finding our way onto the 10th hole. Chad has about seven more shots to play with on the back nine and Marco needs to shoot two under. So, on we go. My favorite hole on the golf course, the 10th. It’s called dunes, and it’s because the fairway is squeezed between huge dunes, giving it a claustrophobic feel off the tea. The 2015 US Open setup turned this into a strategic mid-length par4. Players had to choose between a safe iron or a driver that risked catching a slope and rolling 80 yards offline. Not playing the best, but I think there’s a lot of room for improvement on the back. And it’s a little more getable on the back, I think. A little bit shorter. Yeah, a little bit shorter on the back. Some holes that uh should make some pars on, but um try and limit the triples that we had earlier on first part of the round. I think we’ll be good. Jack has just informed me of some news, and it’s just news. Maybe good, maybe bad, who knows? We shot a 50. So, we need to shoot a 42. We’re committed to the goal. Listen, there’s no excuses here. No excuses. We have a good team. The fact is I’m a 21 handicap and we’re playing off of Narnia T-Bosses. It’s insane. We’re committed. We’re going to one shot at a time. That’s the mindset. Pace on the greens. That’s what we’re doing. Uh we shot a 44 uh on the front nine. It’s not the greatest. Um, we basically need to go two under on this back nine. Uh, Marco has in the bag. We did a little bit of putting training just mentally preparing him, but um, he’s he’s going to smash this. I think this is one of the coolest holes in golf. I think the 10th hole is also a great hole in any golf course because you are sort of getting a chance to be born again. Are you a different player on the back nine? A lot of us talk about, you know, back N is where it all comes together or it’s where we all fall apart. The back nine, it’s the yang to your yin. It’s a nice draw. Keep working. Feels good. I like the right side on this hole. It’s a little easier than the left side. You twirl it. Twirl it. A nice shot from Chad with a club twirl. Let’s get it. And Marco looking to find some circles on the back nine. What a beautiful swing in shape. I love it. Yeah, that’ll do it. That’ll do it. Yeah, that’ll do it. That’ll do it. There was four holes on the front that I just absolutely just like shot myself in the foot with those four holes, dude. And it was just putts. 200 on the back is going to go stupid for the breaking series, dude. So, it’s 195. Going to play it about 210 uphill. Anything just short of that’s fine. This green is positioned in a way that is intricate to find. That’s fine. Over there. Come back. Oh, go bunker. Should be bunker there. Green side. Don’t hurt. I got to shoot nine over. Just got to play a little bogey golf. Grab a couple Grab a couple pars and Yeah. be on our way. Yeah, you’re right on your number. Yeah, I think we’ll be okay. I think it’s doable. Just got to hit a few better shots than I hit last round or last nine. A lot of action. Yeah, I like it. He knows he needs to make a birdie here. Marco breaking the frame. I think so. That’s going to kick left. Cover it. A little bit longer. Good swing. Good swing. Mac is moving much faster. I’m aiming at that little grass. It’s like laid down on the sidehill, you know? I like it. Go, dude. Chad just rolling it up there. Great. Great way to get there. Take it from far. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That is not friendly. We could go unplayable. Go two club lengths back. Wow, that is treacherous. or just full hack. Probably full hack. I think I’ll just try it. Okay. I mean, maybe aim out like towards that back stop on the back of the green. Okay. Oh jeez, that’s a swing and a miss. Oh boy. And still in the bunker, man. Caddy nailed it. Unplayable, he said. Oh. Oh, wow. Come on. Grace of God brings his ball. Please don’t go back in the bunker. Oh, wow. Okay, good. It’s better than where it could have. That was good. Good play. Be a fun one. Just like little drippy guy on the way from I mean not 20%. Go. Yeah. All right. That was a good par putt there. A little more. It’s all good. All good. Jake trying to go all the way home from downtown. Settle down. It’s going to start the back nine with a triple. That is going to severely hurt. Somebody’s watching me. Good par, Marco. That’s the way we want to start the back nine. Clean. Wow, that broke a lot. That broke way more than I thought. Oh, Chad. Oh jeez. It has to happen once around. Don’t don’t don’t don’t don’t do it. Just walk. Just walk. Just walk. It’s fine. Just walk. Again, I think these greens aren’t breaking as much as we think they are. That’s why they call it the breaking series. I guess you just can’t miss those. A quad on the card on the back nine. Jake was hoping for less. He finished the front nine pretty strong. Okay. All right. Well, got that big one out of the way again. Try and uh get a bunch of pars now. Make those up. I hit the putt and I missed the putt. The 11th hole, Shadow. Another 500yard par4. Coolest thing about this hole is you’re walking from the 10th green to the 11th TE and there’s an incredible view which you can see of the entire golf course. It’s played directly into the prevailing wind. And this is a pure test of ball striking. During the US Open, this hole averaged well over par and was one of the five toughest holes all week. Taking it right over the center, right over that little hump right there. I think the one thing the breaking series is missing is uh dogs. I think every player should have a dog that they have to shepherd around the golf course, too. You know, they get paired up with dogs. Oh, that’s cutting. That’s drawing. Is that good? I think that would make it awesome. What’s over there? There’s like fairway and then a dune. Is that a friendly dune or like a bad dune? And Jake on the 11th. The hole goes left, but he goes straight. What are the chances? Are we allowed to cuss? Are we allowed to cuss? You got one, bro. I love it. I got a feeling Chad’s going to hit a little left to right here. Nice. Thanks. Good ball. Playing it. Playing it. Great shot. Thanks, guys. Thank you. How far is the green? Um, we are working. He’s not He’s not even shooting the green anymore, by the way, which is perfectly reasonable. I love the hat there. The USGA hat. That’s the real If you know, you know. 290. Yeah. No. Yeah. No. Yeah. I don’t have that. Over the little hip. It is, my friend. Sir, that’s going to be good. Bumps it up there. That’s great. Nice. You went in the air. Let’s go. That was very good. That was very well. Felt majestic. It sounded good. Front edge of the green’s like 215. Okay. So, that bunker is like 190 back edge. I think it’s playing all I think it’s playing 240 to get home now. Just kind of shuts it down there. It’s hard to It’s hard to get that going. He’s got a high degree of uh into out club path. What do we got? What are we looking at? All right, we got a blind shot. We’re getting the number right now. He’s going to stand there and give me the line. Aiming right of the pin. Ball below the feet. It’s going to go right just right of the pin. Should be somewhere right center. Should be should be good. Very scorable. Marco here. Not not in a bad spot at all. 200 to the pin. It’s just he’s just so good at golf. Amazing shot. And he’s not even happy with that. That’s the crazy thing. Amazing line. Just got a bad break from the false front here. Charl probably didn’t know that. 121 is the number here. Play up to 130 out to the right. And play out to the right. Yep. How far right? Uh, I’d say like a flag stick or two. Let’s just hit a good iron here, huh? Let’s do it. Get up. Go. Oh, just short. That was the right club. It didn’t quite catch it. Oh, come on, dude. Seems like there’s a lot of golf balls that wind up in this vicinity. Like a 50° bump right up there like almost. Mhm. Chad from off the green. Is he going to get the comeback? Bing’s good. Oh, look at him. That guy, that is an elite level of golf IQ there. Trying to get a little high one. Little nippy. Try to I’m not trying to get it like just to the front. Let it roll. Get it high enough that I can like roll past maybe like 5t. Give myself opportunity for par. All right. Marco has a delicate shot at best. Tight lie, short pin, elevation. How close can he get it? Got excited. Get up there. Oh, Jake. Right back at you, kid. Worst feeling on earth. I guess stubbing it is worse. At least he got it there. And then of course your next one’s going to certainly achieve the goal of staying on the green, Chad. Looking like a stick. Come on in. Come on in. Oh man, that’s not bad. Nothing like a little dancing bear ball marker for our dead head. Bound to cover just a little more ground. Oh, not quite enough. Next time it needs to cover a little more ground. Anyone the wheel? No. Missing right. I think he had the read pretty good there. Good tap in for bogey. Marco needs to not make bogeies. Give them respect. Where is Daniel pointing at people? Not sure where he’s at. And Jake in for triple. That is that is a tough start. Seven over through the first two on the back nine for Jake. Okay, we’re good. The Narrows. The 12th hole is a short par4. One of our favorites on earth as far as hole selection goes. Who’s going to go for it and who’s not? It’s uphill the entire way. And there’s OB left, I think. So front edge is like 260. Probably playing 280 up the hill. Marco, if Marco or Jakey hits a good one. I think we might see one on the green here. If you love driver, talk to me. But it’s just got to keep right of that tread. Yeah, let’s just lay up. Okay. You want like a six eye? Yeah, let’s hit the six. Let’s hit the six. 12th hole is a fun par4. kind of reveals itself to you as you go through. Kick, please. Please kick. Right. There it is. Yeah. All right. Dude, look at this. Dude, you have two options. You either kind of lay up in this little section right over here. You have 100 left. The pins in the back right now. Charl taking him through the hole he’s seen a few times. It would be kind of like Charl offered to represent you in court because he’s been sued. Not because he’s a lawyer, but because he’s been in the courtroom once. Do we have that? That’s off the toe. Go. That’s That’s not the middle of the club face, but it is still qualifies as the club face. And the Ping G440 is the most forgiving driver. You think we’re out? I think we’re on it. Oh, yeah. We’re definitely on it. You see the That’s 21 handicap ping coming in clutch to even get that in the air. that off. Marco going at it. Going at it, dude. That’s it. Go ball. Oh, it’s so good. He hits the back there. That’s freaking That should get us a red number. Uh, it rolled. It rolled down the front, but it’s still insane. Let’s go, dude. Let’s go. Marco, if you do not two putt this, these guys are good at golf, man. It’s fun to watch. Oh, no. Oh, this stuff looks lush. That’s the stuff made. This stuff looks lush. 305, but they don’t tell you that it’s 50 ft uphill. Is that us? Oh, heck yeah. Not an easy shot here. This is an uphill walk, by the way. And the next hole is even longer. And then you sort of start to find yourself into the the quiet of the back nine. But this beginning is a bit of a toss salad moment. Not in the sexual way, but just more in the culinary way. Jake on the green, too. Nice. Huge. Chad loves this plate. Oh, that’s out of bounds. Whoa. Oh, no. Oh, no. Is that a RT situation or a hit him from here? Got one. Playing the real rules of golf here. USGA. Let me do like a six. He’s going to need to take a drop and he’s going to switch clubs which I think is a good idea. Okay, I’m going to go right and just get it out of here. Sounds good. There you go. There you go. That’s the right out. Should have started with that. Probably penalty strokes will get you. Good swing. Hit it close. Whatever. Divot tracer. You saw it here first. The divot. Tracer. The divot. Look at that shot, Chad. Just come back king. Can we catch it on the wedge? Oh, one hop, dude. Throw that launch trap back in its home. That’s great. Oh, boy. We have a lag putt of uh the fourth dimension here. Put it close, Marco. Come back. Yeah, dude. Just roller coaster ride. Really good. Oh, holy crap. God damn, dude. That’s crazy. Love coming in strong. That was an insane golf shot, Marco. Good one, Marco. Let’s go, baby. Come on, bro. Give me some. Give me some, bro. What? Cup out right down the hill for birdie here. We’re not even really coming in yet. We’re just at the inflection point. We’re just starting to turn around. This caddy knows what it’s all about. All right, birdie putt here on the way. Oh man. Yeah, I think you know when it’s wet, there’s got to be some science on there around when it’s wet, it it doesn’t break as much. Good for you. Just go in for me. Oh my goodness. On the edge of Mordor. He almost saw that ball disappear. He’s shadow trick in disbelief. The Kirkland signature. Is it moving? That sucks that that counts as a stroke. Not going to I’m not going to hit it hard. I just want to drip it in. It’s just going to drip. Yeah. Marco, first birdie of the day, dude. Oh my god. That’s crazy, dude. Oh my god, dude. That needed to go in. Sometimes you miss me. I don’t even think that got a piece. Marco, we’re going to send you to putting school, dude. Uh, this could be the longest par4 I’ve ever seen in my life. Eagle Eye 534 yd par4. It’s long, it’s strong, and it is down to you up. In the US Open, it played into a steady crosswind and often felt unreachable in two for many. Jason Dave famously had vertigo here. All right, find the fairway here. Come back. It’s just a par. Nice ball. Here we are. That’s off the toe, too. That’s fine. All right. All right. You’re fair. Yeah. Marco must spend a lot of time at the driving range. His swing is dial. Can I get a knuckles? We need to get Marco a traveling game. Just It’s so sick to It’s so sick. Yeah. Let’s go. We’re still in our game plan, man. Like we’re still just playing golf while we play golf. And it’s a good thing we did. All right. Nice ball, Chad. I love this golf hole. This is a great hole. This is a par4 for the pros, folks. I’m pretty sure this is a par five for the amateurs. But these boys are pros today. Get right, please. Come on. Legs are starting to go. Mindset’s still strong. legs are not strong. Trying. It’s real hard to stay over the ball right now. Yeah. Get back there. Come on. Come on. Kick and get up there. Get a little kick. Come down. Yes. Come on. Yes, sir. Oh, boy. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. It’s a good shot. It’s a good shot. Stop. Settle. Two putts, baby. Let’s go. Like Sean’s taking credit for that one somehow. It’s par four. Par four. Par five. It’s got to be four. Par four. 490. That’s fine. That’s fine. That’s fine. That’s fine. That’s a birdie pot. Let’s go. We take those. We take those. Chad in the bunker. It’s fine. We’re good out of bunkers. Yeah. Seems like he’s okay with it. You know, on some level, you got to you got to concede where you can. Definitely got to cover that false front. You can’t leave it short there. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Take a 54 to it. Okay. I got like 44 pin. That’s amazing that just really got to clear that uh All right, Jake, feather this in there. Nice and slim. Oh my goodness. Jump to 10 ft. Go. Oh god. Chad with the hero shot out of the bunker. Thank you. I wasn’t worried about this bunker, man. Hats off to you, my guy. Yes. Nice. Great touch there. Really good hand. Yeah, usually that happens when you hit the ball first. All right, Marco. Oh man. Good par. Good par. Yeah. It’s a W. It’s a W. Recognize it. I think it’s you. You’re ready, man. Oh, man. All right. None of these are falling for us, boys. You know Chad wants this. Oh, tough. Man, this is a good read. All right. All right. On to the 14th. Cape Fear. Ladies and gentlemen, as if it wasn’t clear enough, this game is scary. Par 4, 521 yds. Not the hardest hole on Earth. Kind of slopes downhill right to left and the fairway bends around deep fescue and a a massive cavernous planet that exists between the hole and the tea which ideally you want to avoid at all costs. The truth is folks a bad drive here and you are staring at a big number. And that’s the top te box out there. This is where the pros played. Pretty good view from up here. Highest point of the property. This has got to be it. Yeah, this is it. Wow. Holy crap, dude. Holy cow. Holy moly. That waist is 282 raw back edge. How long par front? 520. 5204. Yeah, that pot bunker is 300 front edge. The waist short of that pot bunker is 280 raw to cover. Forget it, dude. Too late to cover that. But downhill. Downhill. You’re right. You’re right. I understand why Jason they passed out. All right, here we go. 540 yards. Nice ball. That’s a very safe line. You want to pick safe lines out here, folks. You don’t want to go too aggressive. Oh, dude. It’s just so beautiful to watch. Good shot. Nice shot. Jake has to start this right and he has to get through the ball. Nice. Go. Get off the wind. Oh. Oh, it didn’t make it. That was close. That’s tough. It’s like 260 to carry. We don’t have it no matter what. So, we’re making a line for the green and we’re just accepting that we’re going to be in the sand. That’s the play. Jack says I do what Jack says. Oh, get somewhere where we can find it. Sometimes when you can’t pick a line, I didn’t do what Jack said at all. Uh, it’s really hard to execute any type of shot. It’s kind of nice. Yeah, it is nice. Okay, just in the sand anywhere. Sure, man. Looks like he’s on the moon. Going for it, I guess. Just keep going that way. Yeah. Yeah. Why Why go backwards and go forwards, you know? That was kind of fun. Yeah. Like playing on the moon. Oh god. Yeah. Just walking walking on. It’s good these caddies aren’t double bagging it. They would be uh stressed, I guess. We pitched like right into the front of this one. Huh. So, we’re in we’re in a waist bunker here. So, if you see us grounding the club, that’s why it’s a waste bunker. We’re just laying up here. Try to make part of the old school way. Get out, please. Yeah, the length is unreal. Oh man, we’re on an adventure. Chad Chad and Jake are falling victim to the same foe. I don’t even think I can. I don’t know. What do you think? Putter. Whack putter out there. Smoke a putter? Yeah. Ever smoked a putter on a par four from 230? Do I uh like keep the glove on for this one? This isn’t even the same game that the other two are playing. They’re up there, you know, in the grass having fun. Oh boy. Putting lefty. This is This can’t be good for your brain. Oh no. Okay. Ooh. slipped a little. The feet is a problem. Wow. This is what And then we’re hooding it. Oh no. All right, we’re out. All right. Kind of getting my pants pulled down and spanked around a little bit here today. I’m digging in this time. Yeah, we’re locking in. We’re learning. Cape living up to its name. All right, Chad trying to get out his fifth shot. Want to take the iron here? Yeah. Yeah, I’d like that. I think there’s a vortex on this hole. Oh, and here’s Marco on grass. Oh, that’s not for long, man. Oh, boy. I see. This is painful. This has been no fun still. That’s a lie. It’s been actually super fun. Folks at home, I’m uh I I hope you’ve had the chance to experience something quite as intense as top that one three times, too. That was sick. But make this game make sense, somebody. All right, Jake from 190 finally looking to close out this hole and get it behind him. Fear is a mental picture and for these gentlemen it will be a picture that looks a lot like the 14th hole at Chambers Bay Cape Fear. Trudging just trudging along. He’s got a sweet quad burn going over there. I bet. Yeah. All my friends in the comment section just be cool. Okay. Like see you guys come out here and play from 78. It’s not so much the cameras. It’s just like a Okay. You’re not hitting driver good and then not getting any roll out cuz it’s real soft. So, it’s actually playing like around 76 78 or whatever it is. Just happy to be here. Honestly, it’s such a cool experience. Yeah, I’d do it again. Just uh maybe with a better night’s rest. It’s a day at the beach, right, bro? Oh, no. Oh, it’s just so not fair. Oh. Ah, we can do nothing. We’re going that way. Yeah. Important to note for those of you watching at home, in most circumstances, uh, we would be picking the ball up, right? And we would be throwing it back on the fairway. But part of the magic of the breaking series, this is a puzzle that must be solved with one of the 14 clubs in your bag and your brain in your hands. And um, you know, this is this is again the magic. So, uh, as you as you watch, please remember that this may have lasting effects on these people. The goal here is to watch in camaraderie and, um, we didn’t choose this life. We were born. It wasn’t our choice. And here we are. Find a way to let the club get us out of trouble. And in this case, Cape Fear is proving the thesis that these gentlemen are on the verge of getting broken. All right, let’s make a putt. Let’s do it. Yeah. Thank you. Oh, wow. There we go. Oh, yeah. Good shot. Oh my god. We’re on grass. Holy cow. We did it. We made it to grass. There we go. Chad is a different man on the green of 14 than he was on the T. He’s going to sleep good tonight. Run it up on some Chick-fil-A and knock out for 15 hours. Tricky bunker shot. Great out, Marco. Seriously, that’s a fun shot. Great job. Yeah, that was messed up. I like that play. Dude, that’s so hot. That’s hot. Tough to get the speed on that one. Come on, baby. Six over. This is 410. I thought he was going to make it for a 10. A tap in for an 11. Give it respect. Wait, did that go in? Listen, Jojo, I’m sorry. I’ve kind of I think it’s not coming to a surprise here that I’m not breaking 100 today. First of all, Chad, I have been there. It happened to me on a par five in Scotland. But I’m glad you hung in there. I’m glad you stayed with it. Oh, wow. Marco for a double from 5T. I mean, that that that was just lack of focus. Jake for triple. Marco for triple. Wow. Wow. This hole ruined our group. I’m watching this wondering, were they drugged? Were they what? Did a cloud of nitrous oxide wash over them as they walked to their balls off the tea? I mean, this is the likes of something we’ve never seen. Our boys went 14 over on one hole. Tempo meal prep delivered. Hole 15. It’s a rare breather hole on the back. It’s shorter, but it’s far from easy. Named for the panoramic view of Puet Sound and Mount Reneer, often framed perfectly in the distance. Today, obviously, you can barely see either, but the green is elevated and guarded by steep slopes. Miss Long and you gone. Oh, baby. Go hard. Go. Go hard. Go. Hit up. Good shot. Nice shot. Cool. Thank you. I literally Oh, yeah. Ready? Go. Get off it. Wind green and red. Put it on the car. It’s on there. First and only. Hey, big time. Hold it, wind. Come right. Hold it, wind. Oh, dude. All right. It’s like It was basically That’s basically a green in regulation. We’re good. Putting in regulation. Yeah. Putting, you know, I love it. What is this game? I just don’t understand. It’s like it makes it makes everything okay. You know what I mean? It was pure. It was pure. It was a good golf shot. Beautiful. I mean, just be feels good. Right to left swinger says let it swing. Yeah, let it swing. Okay, I’m bunch I’m aiming at the kind of the edge of the cart. Front edge. Yep. Front edge of the cart. All right, we got some balls on the green. This would be an incredible comeback. Not high enough. Never high enough. Oh, we’ll take a par. We’ll take a par. This is the golf saying we see you. Thank you. Okay, it’s a long putt. Yeah, screens are just breaking all over the place. Wow. There you go. That is alone. Incredible. Hang out on that. That’s all right. I guess I’ll keep playing golf, right? Edge. Yes. Marco, you wanted that in. Train. Bring on the train. It’s beautiful. Nice par. Wow. And who knew? Thank you. Wow. Three holes left. Hole 16. Beed par4. 4 and a/4 yds. This runs parallel to the sound. Obviously, it’s a beautiful hole. You got the train running right by you. You may remember that on Sunday, Speed made a clutch birdie here to retake the lead after a disastrous double. The greatest stretch of holes. And with the train going by, it’s just so great. God, I love Chambers Bay. The the famous tree. These guys are on the back tea. Let’s hope no one hits the train. There we go. That should It’s just He’s got a long way to go to get to that fairway. Marco’s pants got a lot shorter. Nice ball. That’s a confident golf swing, you know. Got to got to love going up to it knowing you’re going to see a little bit of cut. It’s a pleasure. It’s crazy that this is a public course, you know. It’s like we’re be able to come out here and play for a decent rate and next time I come out here, I’m not playing from 7,800 yards for sure. Compress it a little bit. We’re going to have to end that tuft of grass life to get it out of here. Yeah. Okay. We go. We ball. Looks like it got out. All right. Yeah. Great swing. Got to be okay, right? Oh, yeah. Slipped. Just short of the green, but really good strike there. Thank you. Back in position. Let’s get up and down. Let’s get up and down for a par. Yeah. Far out. Maybe sneak a bird in there. Far out. Sneak a bird. Hey, hang my hat on that. Go have a beer. Maybe. That sounds tasty. Walk in. There you go. Green grass. There we go. You like it? That’s how we do it. Marco just going through so many changes here at the end of the round. Oh, Marco. kick right. So nice. Little long, dude. Good shot. Great. Yeah. Keep going. All right, we’re back on the turf. Let’s go, Chad. Is that good? Oh, that’s so good. Oh, that’s good. Oh, short, dude. Okay, we’ll take it. All right, good. Okay, man. The 16th hole is not easy. I’ I’ve never really figured it out. That needs to sit. That’s hard. That’s a hard putt, too. Maybe Chad going to learn something there. Not that much. Learn too much. A little bit. Stay. Good. Wow. Greens must be slower. Yeah. Not a lot of pars in this round. Goodbye. We’re on a solo mission here. Ah, feel less good about it now. Okay. Wow. That’s nuts. I mean, we owe the people better. I know, dude. I know. 16. Wow. Marco. Dude, take your time. Yeah, of course. No, I know. The irony. Good man. Yeah, dude. Fist bump nevertheless. Let’s Let’s get out of here. This green is just chewed, man. I mean, with the amount of three putts he’s had, he’s got to feel good about his score, you know. 17th hole, long par three from the back te’s. And for some reason, they decided to name it derailed. It’s named after the train line actually that runs between the course and put sound. Good thing to know about this hole is the slope short of the green feeds balls 30 yards away. So derailed could be the perfect name. Oh, that’s a great ball. He wants it to go. Was car a little heavy. I mean 220 from the back tease. That’s a long golf shot right there. Safe. These do not get used much as you can sell. That did not cut. We’re going to find it. That’s an adventure. Oh, yeah. Now stay. I was actually like I mean, what do you do here? I don’t even know. I don’t have the shot in the bag, bro. All right, I’m coming up. I mean, he can’t even see. Oh, I could not have hit it better. Okay, great shot. Great shot. The thumbs went up and then the thumbs went up. Pulling a rabbit out of a hat there with one and a half holes to go. Chunky, chunky, chunky, chunky, chunky, chunky, chunky. All right, good roll. Just give it enough pace to get it out there. Yeah. Double bon. Still having fun. It’s okay. I mean, this is unbelievable. The original one I had. It was way outside of them. Yep. Great four. Good four. Yeah. Really good. A four from there is crazy. Caddyy looks on. Hopefully that’s not the read he gave him. I’ll bet if he had another go or two here and was able to look at the greens and maybe do a little practice on the greens. I mean, even his chipping’s been good. You know, he’s putting himself in range now, but putting is one of those things that kind of comes with age. You need to see some bad things in the world to start putting well. One last 600 yard par. Yeah. Hey, birdie here. Birdie here. They named the 18th hole Tacoma. It’s a 604 yd par five. And the name Tacoma is actually the native lashes seed word for Mount Reneer, which would be visible in the distance if it weren’t cloudy. Tacoma. I like that. Obviously, the 18th hole is where Jordan Spe hoisted the trophy. It’s also where Dustin Johnson three putted. So, for better or worse, Marco and Dustin Johnson have more than some good facial hair and nice posture in common. Guy had the car walking. Yep. What does it say? Covered death. Covered death you’re looking at. Or are we just in it again? You’re looking at about 200. Okay. A little le a little less than 200. Probably like 190. Is there Is there less cover further left? Yes. Can I go further left? You can. I liked where that guy on the car was standing. Okay. You can even go as far as the guy that’s standing right there in the white. Okay. That’s where I’m at. I have no idea where where go like right where no T- markers this far back, huh? Yeah. No, should be no mowers this far back. Crazy. The final hole here, ladies and gentlemen, comes down to one T, one fairway, and one green. Doesn’t look like anyone will be breaking their score here today, but should be fine. Yeah, perhaps we can see where everybody was. Finish strong. Oh man, he straightened it out. Oh my goodness, that was a good ball. Just Oh my god. Wow. That was a great ball. That’s insane. One last hole, dude. Can’t wait to be done with this, dude. Holy moly. Everything the same, Marco. Nice. Let’s finish. Let’s finish right on that bunker, baby. I think I’ve done that like two or three times today where point where I have to cover. I hit like just right against the edge of the of the fescue and it runs off into the spun. This one hopefully stayed up. 18. Dude, how are we feeling? I I genuinely just feel so I’m going to cry, man. I just feel so lucky to be out here with you guys. It’s been fun. It’s been brutal, but it’s been really fun. Good shot. Came off the toe again. But you know that’s how you play. That’s going to be one 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 over right now. So we’re sitting at a a smooth a plus 17. Smooth 87. Smooth. Yeah. So you need a double to break 90. Break 90. Yeah. Which is great. Which is really good. That’s actually pretty good. Yeah, it’s really good, dude. Why don’t we just make a birdie on this hole? What are we waiting for? We’re going uh it’s 220 to a pot bunker up there. So, we’re hitting six iron to stay short of that. We got 350 to the hole, man. 340 left to go. That’s a long hole. Good shot. Yeah. Good one. In good position. Okay, the play is 180. We’re going to hit a smooth seven. Be short of the trouble and we’ll have a really good opportunity to make a birdie. Got money. We got money. Exactly what we needed. Nice little layup. Let’s go, dude. This is like this is like for Okay, if you take everything away from 50 yards in from the green, it’s a great looking game. The game looked smooth as soon as we like even sniffed the green, dude. We just it dude. Sorry. We just threw up. Where Jordan speed hit threewood from, bro? At the bottom. Is that a Is that a little placer? Oh, check it out. Yeah, let me check it out. Let me get some inspiration. That’s going to kick. Very good. Love ending on something like a becoming a weapon. That’s how you end a round of golf. June 21st, 2015, US Open final round. Jordan Spith hit a 3-wood from It’s about 300. So, I don’t know. That’s a lot. Come on. Pull the rip cord. That should be really good. Oh. It just stayed up on the back stop. That’s a good lead though. Yeah, it’s not a bad leave. We can get that up there. I was really hoping that we can get all the way on the green from that slope, but just didn’t quite do it. Well, we’re not going to putt that one, but what a battle. What a battle. Chad has sick stayed in it the whole time. It’s an incredible feat. This is not an easy thing to attempt to do. never think of the outcome. What am I going to learn? And in my book, whether you break your score, whether you get broken, you tried and that’s the coolest thing, dude. Then it’s okay. It’s a good miss, actually. Go on the green in three. Little green in regulation. Could be good. Worked out really well. Go. All right. That’s tough. We may still get a bunker shot. Oh, there we go. Now it’s sitting up. Same shot. Everybody gets to choose a pin. Smooth. Come on back a little bit. 18 hole here at Chambers. What a what a big and beautiful hole. You know, you really see when the pros are playing it from such incredible yardages, you know. Oh, no. Too creative. Too creative. It’s all right. Dude, so fun. It’s kind of awesome. It’s so awesome. This is so awesome. I previously was upset at Dustin Johnson for missing the tying birdie putt, but this green is a circus. How do you make a putt on this green? I’m not going to hit one too low, but kind of just get under one, pop it on the green, try and let it release down. Not too much spin. Just kind of dead balling. No spin. Just let it release out. All right. Everybody gets a really great chip, Jake, to close out. That’s a terrible guy. Yeah. I could get to uh the green side a little quicker. and Chad. Oh, good. Oh, boy. Thanks, guys. Four feet for his final triple bogey of the day. A little outside of that. Marco taking it across the west side. That’s a really good read. Really good putt. Really good read. That’s a good putt. That’s a really fun putt. Finishing with a par would be nice. Yes. Great five, Jake. I think so. Yeah. The uh both 600 yard par fives at even par. Did I? You did. Hang out on that. Like this,00 yards of par five. We played even par for two holes. Pretty damn good. There you go, Chad. You know what? It feels good to finish. It’s more than you thought you were going to shoot, but ultimately still a good round. Ready to marks, get set, go, man. Marco surprising. And that does it today. Chad 118 strokes. Par 70 playing 7,682 yards with elevation that’ll make your quads burn. Jake 96. You held it together, especially in the end. Remarco with an 8919 over. I think you three putted on every hole. What an incredible ball striking round. You played great. Jake, Marco, Chad, thank you so much for joining us on this season’s finale of the breaking series. So, Chambers Bay breaks all three of our contestants who in the face of struggle, challenge, and on some holes, for example, 14 utter defeat, brought their best attitudes to Chambers and to those of you at home. Haven't watched it yet. Just found it. Loving it already.
I’m sorry to have missed this event, happy for all those that made it out!! Keep coming back, we have some great courses!!
I shot 85 combo-tees with a 13hcp and (4 3-putts).
What a pleasure hearing marco's compression. Awesome audio
Great job showing off the course, it looks amazing. Hard to watch from about 14th on. The guys seem great & just got punished repeatedly. I would love to see a redo on this course to see how another set of regular golfers fare
I wanna be chads friend so bad, would be a blast
This is my favorite content you guys put out. Thank yiy
Looking south, The small island on the right is Ketron Island and the larger island on the right is Anderson Island.
As always RGC delivers the best content in YouTube golf. Good characters and great story telling. Marco is suave with his full swing and has lots of swagger! Jake has a powerful game and great potential. Chad is pure joy on the course and would be a great addition to any group he plays in. It’s tough to put your game out there to be critiqued by the masses under such stressful circumstances. I applaud all three for having the courage and character to persevere to the end. Half Set Full Sympathy!
58:14 How does Marco need to shoot 2 under on the back nine to shoot 79?
Had the pleasure of playing CB this fall in a tournament. The course is gorgeous with the sound as the backdrop. Great elevation changes. Each hole has a more direct route off the tee but you take on more challenge. Or you can play safe but have more yardage into the greens. Same thing around the greens. There is a side that will funnel to the green. Another side will funnel away. Really enjoyed the design of the course. A RTJ Jr gem. 💎
Second EAL video I’ve seen this week shouting out the Wheel
Whats with Marcos side eyes whenever someone else speaks? Is he to cool for the crowd, with his plastic pants and blind putting technique?
My favorite course
Honestly my favorite part when watching these break 90 videos is just hearing Erik laugh his ass off when things take a turn for the worse 🤣
Tough round for the guys. Honestly, it's pretty unrealistic to expect amateurs to play anywhere close to their handicaps from pro distances. They may have a chance at tees in the 6300-6800 range, but their target scores were going to represent solid rounds from standard white/blue equivalents. Almost no chance they would break their goals from 7,682.
Thats Fox and McNeil islands, my first thought was Chad is going to struggle walking 18, it's tough
I think the total hours of sleep prior to gameday on this whole series is 3 hours
This is the highlight of YouTube for me please keep this series going for eternity
Some of us golfers read the Quran and also like to draw the ball. Makes sense to me.
That is McNeil & Fox Islands
Love the series. Erik’s commentary has me rolling at times. “Not in the sexual way but the culinary way”. 😂
Jason Day had vertigo on 9 I believe, not 13
I love this series more than anything else on the Tube. Marcos swing and demeanour is pure! Chad is a champion. Jake, well it’s hard to take a 18 handicap who claims to be a 4 seriously.
Jake is absolutely not a 4HCP
worse round of golf is still better than a great day at work!
They always get at least 1 person lying about their handicap .lol Im looking at you Jake
Only 10 minutes in so far. I have to say I love the narration of the round. Great touch
Munoz is a legit 4 handicap but his home course is all dogleg lefts.
did anyone hole a putt over 6 feet? those greens killed them.
Marco could have been close to par if he just putted, he pushed/pull quite literally every single putt.. it was painful to watch.
Would rather see these guys play normal tees than the tips. They are supposed to be relatable, so they should play relatable tees that normal people play.
Mr. Marco @47:19 watch the hands. Maybe try going to claw to get that right hand less involved. a bit flippy. You played well and seem like a cool dude. Good vibes.
nobody noticed that Jake is a righty, putting lefty? as a lefty, this is weird 🙂 Great content again!!
