MONTEREY, Calif. (10/22/25) – With individual medalist Jake Wallis carding a final-round 7-under 65, the Arkansas State men’s golf team extended its winning streak to three tournaments, taking top honors at The Saint Mary’s Invitational at Bayonet Golf Club.

Ranked No. 37 nationally, A-State continued its dominant fall by outlasting a field that included five other top-75 programs. The victory completed a sweep of three straight titles — Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and The Saint Mary’s Invitational — a feat achieved only twice before in program history (2015-16, 1999-00).

A-State closed the final round at 7-under 281, marking its ninth consecutive round under par and 13th of the season. The Red Wolves finished at 19-under 845 to edge host No. 75 Saint Mary’s (-15) by four strokes. No. 73 Santa Clara (-2) and No. 32 Long Beach State (-1) were the only other teams to finish under par, as the tournament scoring average settled at 1.99-over par (73.99). Rounding out the top 10 were Texas State (+1), Pacific (+4), Fresno State (+5), Cal Poly (+6), San Francisco (+8) and No. 52 Washington State (+12).

Wallis, A-State’s third individual medalist this season, shot the tournament’s low round of 7-under 65 and finished at a career-best 12-under 204—tied for the 13th-lowest total in school history—five strokes ahead of teammate Thomas Schmidt. Wallis finished in dramatic fashion, sinking eagles on two of his last three holes to complete his third career round of 65 or better. For Schmidt, he finishes runner-up for the second consecutive event and inside the top 10 for the fourth time in five events this fall.

Milan Reed finished tied for eighth at 2-under 214 behind a final round 1-under 71. Jake Lile was 1-over 73 Wednesday and totaled 2-over 218 to tie for 26th. Chris Somerfield (+8) tied for 62nd and Cole Kirby (+11) tied for 73rd.

A-State completes the fall schedule with a scoring average of 278.60, nearly seven shots better than the program record of 285.17 set in the 2024-25 season. Four players – Schmidt (68.40), Wallis (69.20), Reed (70.47) and Lile (71.47) – finish the fall slate with scoring averages below par.

The Red Wolves begin their spring slate March 15-17 at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State.
