Windy conditions existed Monday at Tanglewood Golf Course, but it didn’t blow the Highland girls golf team off track. The Cougars are one stroke off the lead heading into the second round. Muddy River Sports Director Chris Duerr put together these highlights.
The following is a presentation of Muddy River Sports. Both the wins and in kind scores were elevated Monday for round one of the Missouri Class One Girl state golf meet in Fulton. The best local highlight Tanglewood Golf Course would yield here at 14. Monro City’s Anna Leven Jelly from the collar to save parano currently sits in 49th place individually. The team title chase was a bit of a war of attrition. Highland in the thick of it thanks to Ava Hudson. She fired in 97 today. Good for 16th place. Anything under triple digits, good on this day. Highland currently in second place, one stroke behind South Harrison. The Cougars led by Morgan Chris. No surprise. Here from a spot of bother on number two, the par five. She’d end up with a 94 of the day. She is 10th individually best among local golfers. Georgia Clucky with a nice par save here at number three. currently in 21st place, firing a 99 on the day. Josie Murphy with a two putt bogey make at three. She is currently in 34th place individually. And balancing things out, Savannah Bowen, the junior from Highland with a bogey make here as well. Currently in 78th place. Sal Shelby, meanwhile, currently resides fifth in the team standings. 41 strokes off the pace, led by Hannah Gaines, the only Ladybird to break triple digits with a 99. That’s good for a tie individually in 21st place. Playing as an individual, Palmyra’s Avery Trower making the most of her first trip to state. The junior here with some nice work with a short game on the difficult 14th hole. Canton’s Railen Merida as well trying to make a splash. Currently in the top 50, two putts for her here.
