Billy Foster has caddied for some of the biggest golf stars and provided key insights across an incredible career but it was one particular intervention involving Tiger Woods that he remembers fondly, and it wasn’t on the course.

Foster caddied for 16 Europe Ryder Cup outings and just six months ago, parted ways with Matt Fitzpatrick after six years, having played a key role in his US Open success. It comes after Woods hit a new low in his world ranking after his latest injury update.

In 2005, Woods’ usual bagman was busy. Foster happened to be around and was caddying for Darren Clarke at the time. Woods went to Clarke and asked if Foster could help him out, and without hesitation, Clarke said yes.

The veteran caddie recently appeared on the RickSheilsGolfShow and proceeded to relive a ‘toilet-gate’ incident with Woods.

At the time, Foster was caddying for Team Europe during the Ryder Cup, and just minutes out from his tee time, Woods needed to use the restroom.

“It was Ryder Cup 2002. First match, first morning, was Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn playing Tiger Woods and Paul Azinger. So l go into the toilets. There’s C.B. Y. Davis Love’s caddie in there. ‘Morning, Cubby.’ ‘Morning, Billy.’

“So I sit down, trousers around the ankles, look across-oh my god, no toilet paper. Full reverse across the corridor to trap two. Sit down. Look behind me—20 rolls of toilet paper on the shelf behind,” said Foster.

Foster then realized that Woods had walked into the stall without toilet paper, just minutes before he would be sending his ball onto the fairway.

“Now I’m using the excess toilet paper, I’m drying my eyes ’cause I’m crying, crying ’cause like there’s six minutes to tee off here now or something like that, and I’m the only man in the world that knows that Jesus is in there with no toilet paper,” said Foster.

“So I’ve gone back, rolled up about 20 sheets, and I’ve gone down on my hands and knees under his toilet door. And whoever’s in there, I said, ‘You might be needing this.’ As I walked out, I went, ‘You’re one up’.

“And sure enough, they beat them one up. And he came out with the biggest smile on his face and said, ‘Billy, I owe you big time’.”

Foster started caddying for Fitzpatrick in 2019 and has also worked with several other notable Europeans. While working with Fitzpatrick, they claimed two PGA Tour wins and four on the DP World Tour, and a major title at the 2022 U.S. Open.
