MATHEWS, La. –The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s golf team finished in a tie for fifth place in the LaTour Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at the La Tour Golf Club.

Southeastern finished 12-under par for the tournament to finish tied with SLC brethren New Orleans on the leaderboard. East Texas A&M (-37) maintained its day one lead to win by nine strokes, while Midland College’s Scott Spark (-13) claimed individual medalist honors with a win on the second playoff hole.

“We left some shots out there this week, but anytime we shoot under par as a team – no matter the course, we’re pleased,” Southeastern head coach Lawrence Allan said. “We’ve shot under par in three of five events this fall and did so with five different lineups, so overall I’m pleased with our progress.”

Griffin Dorr carded a final-round 68 to move up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 13th in the individual standings. After shooting a 78 in Monday’s opening round, the Covington, Louisiana native was 10-under par over the final 36 holes.

“Griffin is a fantastic player with so much talent,” Allan said. “Where those rounds of 78 come from, I don’t know. But when he’s playing his best, he really elevates how good our team can be.”

A pair of Lion freshmen joined Dorr in the top 20. Lorenzo Palmieri (-2, T17th) and Gavin Ingram (-1, T20th) both closed out the fall on a high note. Allan was quick to praise the play this fall of his freshmen trio of Palmieri, Ingram and David Marsh.

“It’s really exciting to have three freshmen who’ve come in and earned spots in our lineup,” Allan commented. “Gavin has closed out the fall with back-to-back under-par performances and Lorenzo has been solid for us as well. David didn’t make the lineup this week, but he’s been one of our most consistent performers this fall.”

Colby Sullivan, competing as an individual, shot even par for the tournament – good for a tie for 23rd place. Patrick Blaum (+2, T31st) and Landen East (+8, T48th) rounded out the SLU starting five in the fall finale.

The spring portion of the 2025-26 Southeastern schedule opens with the Bentwater Intercollegiate, slated for Feb. 9-10 in Montgomery, Texas. The tournament will be the first of six this spring for the Lions before the Southland Conference Championships April 21-23.

“Individually, each player has different aspects of their game that we have to improve,” Allen stated. “As a team, we have to concentrate on finishing strong.”
