Mini Hawk, the brilliant Philly who’s taken the racing world by storm, entered the pre-lar de Triumph on an incredible five race win streak. Her season has been nothing short of spectacular with dominant victories in the Epsom Oaks, the Irish oaks at the Kurrick and the Yorkshire Oaks at York. But in the closing strides of the Ark, she was narrowly denied by the French trained Daras, finishing a valiant second in one of the toughest fields of the year. A daughter of the legendary Frankle out of the dancily mare multilingual Mini Hawk’s career has been a masterclass in progression and promise. She made her debut at Cork as a 2-year-old, finishing second before breaking her maiden stylishly at Leopardstown to close out her juvenile campaign. This year, she rose to dominance with her string of classic wins, earning her place among Europe’s elite. Owned by the powerhouse Koolmore partnership of Derek Smith, Susan Magner, and Michael Taber, Mini Hawk has compiled a record of five wins and two seconds from just seven starts with career earnings already surpassing $2.5 million. Her talent, determination, and consistency have made her one of the brightest stars in the sport. Trainer Aiden O’Brien confirmed that Mini Hawk’s next target is the Breeders Cup turf at Delmare, a challenge that will see her face the best from around the globe. That’s the plan at the moment, O’Brien said. Everything’s good with her so far, and she’s working toward Dell March. But Mini Hawk won’t be the only O’Brien trained runner making the trip to California. The Bali Doyle stable could be sending a formidable team. Brussels, runner up in the middle park stakes, might line up in the turf sprint. Gestad, winner of the Coventry Stakes and runner up in three consecutive group one races, could appear in the juvenile turf. Two-time group one winner precise, is being aimed at the juvenile Phillies turf, while Bedtime Story, who’s faced top competition all season, is likely to contest the Philly and Mayor turf. O’Brien also mentioned the Lion in winter as a possible entrant, though his specific target is yet to be confirmed. Few trainers in history have dominated the Breeders Cup like Aiden O’Brien. With 20 career wins, he’s tied with the legendary D Wayne Lucas for the most in event history. His record in the juvenile turf is unmatched with seven victories since 2011, and he’s captured the turf itself seven times as well. This year, however, O’Brien faces one notable challenge, the temporary loss of his star jockey, Ryan Moore. Moore suffered a fractured femur in late August and is expected to return to the saddle next year. In his absence, French-based writer Kristoff Sumlan has taken over as O’Brien’s go to jockey, guiding the stables top contenders through the fall campaign. Suman’s experience and poise under pressure make him an ideal fit for Bali Doyle’s Breeders Cup team. As Mini Hawk gears up for her next big test, anticipation continues to build. Her blend of speed, stamina, and class makes her a major threat wherever she runs. The ark may have slipped through her grasp, but her story is far from over. With Delmare on the horizon, she’ll have the chance to reclaim her winning streak and perhaps add another chapter to Aiden O’Brien’s extraordinary Breeders Cup legacy.
