Tiger Woods underwent his seventh back surgery on Friday, but he promised his teammates that he wouldn’t miss the TGL season opener.
Woods on X posted earlier this week that he had back surgery in New York, saying it was the right decision for his health and body. He did not mention how long he would be out of the sport and it is unknown if Woods will be playing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas or the PNC Championship at the end of the year.
Most also assumed that he wouldn’t be teeing it off at the TGL home opener, and though Woods didn’t confirm if he would be swinging a club, he did confirm something else.

Jupiter Links Golf Club posted on X, “Tiger wishing you a quick recovery as we gear up for Season 2 of TGL! Rest assured, [golf influencer and Jupiter Links ambassador] Will Lowery is taking great care of your clubs!”
Woods responded, “I’ll be there for every match! Looking forward to seeing everyone on January 13th for our home opener. And Lowery, hands off my sticks!”
Woods is coming off his second surgery of 2025. He had a separate procedure in March after he ruptured his Achilles tendon, and this is now his second back surgery in just over a year. Aside from TGL play, the last time Woods competed was at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, in late 2024.

In September 2024, Woods said he had surgery on his lower back. Woods said it was a micro-decompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back.
“The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” said Woods.
With two more surgeries behind him since, optimistic fans were looking forward to seeing his return at TGL, founded by the veteran and recent Ryder Cup champion, Rory McIlroy.

Some fans are urging the veteran and 15-time major winner to call it quits after his 33rd injury. Woods has also had countless surgeries, with the number of times he’s been under the knife surpassing a dozen.
