Phil Mickelson has delivered a pointed message to Gavin Newsom following the California Governor’s remarks about Donald Trump, claiming that San Francisco has become ‘woke’.

Trump declared he would ‘make San Francisco great again’ while discussing a potential visit to the city, prompting a response from Newsom. It comes after Mickelson offered rare praise for a Democrat senator after his previous blast at Newsom.

LIV Golf star Mickelson has consistently been a Trump advocate and a Republican voice, frequently supporting him on social media during both of his presidential terms. Meanwhile, LIV Golf star Graeme McDowell has made his ambitions to compete at the Masters clear after his absence.

Speaking recently, Trump stated: “The difference is I think they want us in San Francisco. San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world, and then 15 years ago it went woke. We’re going to go to San Francisco. We’re going to make it great.”

In a quote tweet, Newsom, who aims to lead the Democratic party and seek the presidency in 2028, delivered sharp criticism.

Newsom declared: “Fact check: Nobody wants you here. You will ruin one of America’s greatest cities.”

Mickelson fired back with a tweet, simply stating: “This isn’t true at all. We are begging for him to come save this former great city(and more).”

This development follows Trump’s indication that he would ‘strongly consider’ deploying the national guard to the city, with Mickelson arguing that San Francisco, and California, requires assistance.

Mickelson also replied to a message from a social media follower, stating: “We’re also begging him to save the entire state from our inevitable energy crisis.”

This isn’t the first time Mickelson has voiced his concerns about San Francisco and its need for better leadership. He previously shared a post that ranked San Francisco as the worst-managed city in the United States.

Mickelson expressed his disappointment on Twitter, saying: “This is really sad and disappointing. It’s such a beautiful place to be ruined by poor leadership.”
