Is 37-year-old Kendall Lucky actually “lucky?” You decide.

It seems the suspect spotted a Dodge Challenger and decided, “I want it.” The Alabama man was allegedly able to start and steal the muscle car. That’s pretty lucky.

But then, the business where the car had been parked immediately phoned the Decatur Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. Not too lucky.

Even more unlucky? Police immediately spotted the car at the 4th Ave. SE and Grant St. SE intersection. They hit their lights and sirens, signaling Lucky to pull over. And when he refused? Police officers made the call to pursue him. No luck to be had.

From high-speed chase to water hazard

The suspected car thief floored it. He was not only able to evade the police, but actually raced out of town. You could say that’s lucky.

When the law started to close in, Kendall Lucky spotted the Point Mallard Golf Course and thought, “I bet I can drive this car across the green!” It probably felt like a stroke of luck.

Of course, golf courses are littered with obstacles, from sand traps to rough grass to water features. They’re enough to stop a golf ball—and apparently a Dodge Challenger too.

As luck would have it, the Challenger took a long turn and belly-flopped into a pond. You might call it a hole in one.

Lucky’s subpar driving landed him in handcuffs and, eventually, the Morgan County Jail. No mulligan here.

Charges include: Theft of Property 1st Degree, Attempt to Flee/Elude Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Improper Lane Usage, Improper Turn, Run Red Light, Fail to Signal, Driver’s License Not in Possession, Driving Wrong Side of HWY, Fail Stop Sign, Follow Too Close, Fail to Yield Right of Way, and Driving While Suspended. His bond is set at $13,000.
