BETHPAGE, Long Island (WABC) — President Donald Trump arrived on Long Island on Friday morning to attend the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black Golf Course

He touched down in Farmingdale before noon with his granddaughter, Kai, in tow and received cheers and chants of “USA” when he took to the green.

Trump said he decided to attend the tournament to give the struggling American team a boost.

“The team is not doing so well so when I heard that I said let’s go on the plane, we have to fly and help them,” Trump said. “We’ll get it done, one way or the other, we’ll get it done.”

Trump was viewing the 45th Ryder Cup from in a seat in the grandstand, behind his usual security glass.

He is the first sitting U.S. president to attend, and it marked Trump’s first trip to Long Island during his second term.

President Trump was accompanied by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

“He’s the boss out here, he’s done a phenomenal job… he’s really a great guy,” Trump said of Blakeman.

Trump took Nassau County in last year’s presidential election, the first Republican to do so in more than 30 years. He won Suffolk County in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

The visit brought the highest level of security to the event, with local road closures and disruptions.

He is not expected to return for Sunday’s Ryder Cup presentation.

The Ryder Cup is estimated to bring a $160 million boost to Long Island as well as hundreds of jobs.
