North Lanarkshire Council has granted the removal of a tree from a Coatbridge golf club for safety reasons.

Planning officers agreed that a chestnut tree at Drumpellier Golf Club presented a risk to the public as it had been damaged by high winds and would have already fallen if it were not propped up by other trees, as it was already tilted at a 30 degree angle and if left unattended would also cause damage to those trees.

Work approved through the application also includes crown reduction of two other trees and crown lifting on several others.

With the golf course considered a managed landscape, the proposed
tree removal was considered part of its ongoing maintenance, and the work was also deemed to be necessary for public safety, while not representing a significant or detrimental impact on the overall visual appeal of the area.

The work was therefore approved with some conditions imposed, including that it be carried out by a qualified contractor and outwith the bird breeding season of March to September.
