The Queen Elizabeth II Trophy is in the talented pair of hands of 42-year-old John McLaren.

This achievement in the most recent Monthly Medal at Sudbrook Moor saw McLaren’s handicap index reduced to 6.2.

His very fine scorecard of three over par, featuring two dropped shots on the front nine and one on the back nine, also won the lowest gross prize in a mixed field of 48 members.

McLaren started his golf career at Sudbrook Moor as a teenager when his golf loving Dad dropped him off for lessons.

Runner-up was on-form Pedro Morais, one shot adrift, ahead of Dave Sharples, Malcolm Edwards, Andy Dunderdale, and Neil Baker, all in Division One.

Best return in Division Two was from Kevin Turner and a prize pay-out also for Karl Oetegenn, Barry Smith and Joe Dolby.

On the same nett score, Michelle Gayton and Courtney Sharples returned the leading ladies’ scores from Myra Evangelista.

The optional two’s pot was shared by Myra Evangelista (two shares), Steve Hill, Dan Blankley, Andrew Dolby, Joe Dolby, Barry Smith, Andy Dunderdale and Neil Baker.
