A little over 10 years ago, Welsh golfer Jaime Donaldson secured Europe’s victory at the 2014 Ryder Cup in Glen Eagles with a memorable winning putt. Now, as he turns 50 on Sunday, Donaldson is set to begin a new chapter in his career on the Legends Tour. The tour confirmed this week that Donaldson will make his senior debut at the Sergio Melp Nano Senior Italian Open held at San Dominico Golf in Pulia from October 23. 25 Italy, of course. has its own Deep Rider Cup ties. Homegrown stars Franchesco Molinari and Constantino Rocka have both represented Europe in the historic contest. And just last year, the 2023 Rder Cup won by Luke Donald’s team Europe took place at Marco Simone Country Club in Rome, marking Italy’s first time hosting the event. This year’s senior Italian Open will feature a high-profile field, including current order of merit leader Scott Hend, and former major champions Michael Campbell, Paul Lorie, and Ian Wnam. Donaldson earned his place in a lineup through category 6, which offers entry to the top 20 players from the 2024 career money list. His most recent competitive outing came at the KM Open on the DP World Tour in June where he missed the cut. A result that mirrored his performances at the Sodal Open and Hain Classic earlier in the season I in recent years. The three-time DP World Tour winner and 2012 Irish Open champion has played a reduced schedule, splitting time between the DP World Tour and the Challenge Tour. He also attempted final qualifying for the Open at Dundinal Links this summer, but fell short after rounds of 75 and 76, finishing tied for 48th. Donaldson will join Sweden’s Johan Edfors, another former tour winner, in making his Legends Tour debut at the event.
