Gonna have to start calling the gas company with how deep my divots are! I definitely rushed this swing, but idk what that's actually doing mechanics-wise. This is my 6 iron, I can only get ~160 yards with it on a clean shot, but I can get 160 yards with my 8 iron too. Even when I get ball-first contact, I still get deep divots.

Idk smash the club one more time it might help

  2. SpreadElectronic1232

Your right elbow being bowed out that far and not closer to your body might not be helping? I slowed it down and it seems like the club is hitting the ground first like you’re chopping wood.

It’s crazy how much you can learn when you actually try to, here’s what I would do – use this video and compare it to some swings from professionals, if you can’t pick up what you’re doing wrong, avail of the internet and all its benefits and if you still can’t improve then just give up

Lmfao the rage club ground whack after the swing, on the driving range nonetheless, is actually insane to me

Why are you getting mad at the place dedicated to work on your swing??

  5. sethcera

You look like you are doing a slap shot in hockey if that helps

  6. eaglesflyup

    You’re locking your trail leg.

  7. Hodler_caved

I don’t have the correct answer, but I wouldn’t play my 6i that far forward in my stance & you look like you’ve been watching too much Scottie Scheffler.

  8. AlternativeLack1954

Trail leg be crazy. Wide stance behind your body. Right elbow. Take a lesson

  9. Rokarion14

Your ball position is too far forward.

What are you doing with your back leg? It looks like you aren’t letting the club do the work, instead you are trying to power swing

Dude got mad at a swing he recorded to ask for help with LOLOL

Downswing is steep. Reverse engineer that

  13. Jealous_Opposite5158

Well cause your hitting the ground and not the ball. Pretty simple.

Swing looks super steep to me which might be why you’re taking big divots.

I would dial the power back, if you’re not making solid contact it’s not helping distance anyway. This should help with better strikes and improve distance. Once you’re hitting the center club face consistently then start adding more power back.

You also need to keep your right foot more planted through impact, it’s basically in its finish position by the time you hit the ball which is also going to throw off consistency with your ground contact resulting in fat and thin strikes.

You’ll also want to work on keeping the left elbow tucked into more at the top, you’re getting really disconnected which isn’t helping anything in terms of consistency, as there are too many moving pieces in the swing.

Past that you’ll need to evaluate your emotional response to a bad shot, especially if you’re relatively new… most shots will be bad so why get upset when you hit one, that won’t be fun for anyone. If you’re slamming a club on the range, it’s going to be 10x worse on the course and it’s hard to play good golf in that emotional state.

Few issues. OTT and steep, but also, you’re spinning out and not actually transferring your weight to your front side. It causes you to hang back and not have a lot of room to clear the club, so you would need to compensate by standing up or scooping. You’re scooping but that will cause fat or thin shots like you are seeing. Work on a proper weight shift to the front side so you have room to clear and get proper extension through the swing, inside out.

it looks like you’re hitting it SO FAR behind. set up the ball like 12 inches farther out in front

  17. granolaraisin

No weight shift on the downswing. That’s the core issue. You want 90% of your weight on the front foot before impact. It shifts the bottom of your swing arc forward and gives your arms room to extend.

Check out senseidelswing on Insta, others have this drill too, but look for the one where people put alignment sticks in their belt loops, to keep them from firing the hips too early, which you may be doing. Don’t have the link handy, sorry. It notes Tiger’s old ole’ swing where the club is too far behind him after the hips have fired. Good luck.

To many issues for anyone to say, seek professional help and good luck

Man, not making clean contact is so frustrating. I would start with your grip, it’s the foundation of good golf. I can see your right hand thumb is on top of the shaft, this is going to cause the club to open and you’re likely coming down steep to compensate. If you’re that frustrated you’re probably holding on with a death grip.

Start with a more relaxed grip and then watch some videos on proper grip, creating “the v” with your thumb and index finder, and where the club should sit in your fingers.

It won’t be an instant fix, it will feel terrible at first, but a good grip makes fixing anything else possible.

You’re locking out your trail knee in the backswing. Nothing good happens from that position

  22. Cherynobyl

I thought I was doing everything right and that I just needed 1 or 2 small tweaks, till I took a lesson and my instructor got my form posture and technique full revamped, basically you can be doing everything wrong and thinking your a point or two away from “getting it” when really professional in person guidance is easier quicker and better, just more expensive for a more quality result. Likely doing more wrong then right

  23. No_Mention3821

Just after the start of the downswing, where hands are at height of the head, the club had been “released” so that the club and left arm are almost in a straight line. OP needs to keep the angle between club and left arm until just before impact. Good luck, OP.

I’m no coach but things that help me when I start chunking it are moving the ball back in stance and standing farther away from the ball.
