The Golf Australia (GA) Board has announced the appointment of Rebekah Horne, distinguished technology and digital media executive, as a Director of Golf Australia.

Horne is currently Country Director, Software & Services at Apple Australia, where she oversees a portfolio of consumer platforms including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple News and Apple Books.

She has more than two decades of senior leadership experience across technology, media and sport, having served as Chief Digital & Data Officer at the National Rugby League (NRL), Chief Digital Officer at Network Ten, and as part of the international leadership team that grew MySpace into a global digital brand.

With a deep connection to golf after being introduced to the game from the age of nine, Horne’s expertise is a timely addition to the board ahead of Golf Australia’s largest digital transformation.

Horne joins the golf industry during a significant time of growth, with total participation growing to more than 4 million adult Australians who have picked up a golf club in the last 12 months, and more than 20% growth in golf club membership since 2020.

Golf Australia Chair Peter Margin welcomed Horne’s appointment.

“We are delighted to welcome Rebekah to the GA Board. She brings deep expertise in digital innovation and customer strategy, which are vital to our future,” Margin said.

“Her experience will help guide Golf Australia’s digital transformation, making the game more accessible and inspiring more women and girls to take up and enjoy golf.”

Rebekah Horne said she was honoured to join the Board.

“Golf is in an exciting period of growth and transformation, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute. I look forward to helping Golf Australia leverage digital platforms to reach new audiences, enhance fan and player experiences, and ensure the sport is welcoming to everyone,” Horne said.

“After beginning my golf journey with my father’s old clubs in country NSW, I understand how it can connect generations and bring families together, so I’m passionate about ensuring others get to experience the joy that the sport has provided me.”

About the process

The search for the vacant Golf Australia (GA) Director position has been an extensive process undertaken by the Nominations Committee, headed by independent Chair Lachlan Wark, leading to today’s announcement.

This includes actively seeking expressions of interest for the role via external channels, extended interviews with a select shortlist of candidates by members of the Committee and Board and a final recommendation of a preferred candidate to the whole GA Board.

At the completion of this process, and in accordance with the GA Constitution, the Board formally appointed Rebekah as a Director.
