Ladies out there, number one mistake beginner golfers make, especially ladies. But I’m going to sort you out in like quick seconds. You have to watch this video. Let’s do it really fast. Let’s get you really going. And the number one mistake that beginner golfers make that are my ladies is let’s get started. [Music] [Music] Hi, I’m Coach Ryan. Welcome back. Let’s get you out of swaying your hips like the salsa girl. And we have to make sure that you are twisting, twisting, twisting. How are we going to do that? I’ve done a few where you actually can practice at home. highly highly recommend you do this in your living room, in your kitchen, wherever you are, you have to practice this because it’s a very non-traditional move. In a lot of sports, we’re taking steps and we’re pushing forward. A lot of lateral movements. In a lot of sports, when you’re playing volleyball and not in golf, it’s hard because we’re telling you to push down into the ground and we’re telling you to twist the butt cheek back. Again, watch me. Not sideways, but we’re pushing it back. Let’s try a few to show you what that looks like. Pardon the quick interruption. As always, in the comments, let me know if you have any questions. Back to our regular scheduled program. We’re going to use this blue tea. This blue tea will be the ball. I will explain to you what’s happening. This is the golf ball. It’s in the middle of my stance. I’m nice and relaxed. The reason why we are not going sideways is because when I am here, if you put the club, this is the middle. Okay? If I move my hips sideways, this becomes the middle. So, if a lot of you have been hitting the ground first or you’ve been hitting behind the golf ball is because nine times out of 10 you’re moving your hips sideways. Even though you’ll generate power, the ball will go far, but you will never catch the ball usually clean. You’ll always hit the ground first. It’s called hitting it fat, not the body weight, but it’s just a terminology used in golf. It’s called hitting it fat. You’re hitting the ground first, then you’re hitting the ball. And the number one reason when it comes to ladies is we like to move our hips sideways like this. So now the middle has become here. And when I go this way, now it’s become there. What I’m trying to do is I’m trying to relax my body. I’m trying to use my right leg or my my leg furthest from the hole and I’m trying to push down on it. Just try that for a second. You know what? Like if you have a tea or you have a quarter or you have a leaf or something, put it under your right foot and say squish. Squish. Try and do that three or four times so you understand what that energy looks like as we’re telling you to put pressure down into the ground. Squish. I’m really squishing and putting power down on this leg. It’s going to actually help you generate tons more power. So, I am here. I have opened my feet. I am going to take my right butt cheek and push it back. As it goes back, I am squeezing that tee under my foot. You have to practice this at home. Some of you might not be able have flexibility in your hips to go this far back. However far back you can go, you got to just keep trying. So, I’m here. I’m taking my right butt cheek back. As I’m taking my butt, right butt cheek back, my left knee is coming inward. And if it’s not, then I’m probably not going to have the range of motion. Let me show you sideways. I’m here. I’m here. I’m squishing this tea under my foot. I have now brought this right butt cheek. I’m taking it backwards. I am not taking it sideways. I am taking it backwards. As I’m taking it backwards, as I’m pushing down on the ground, I’m feeling pressure in my leg. I’m bringing my left knee in. It’s helping me turn more. Okay. So, you know what? Just stand here in your living room at your house. Right butt cheek back. Grab a golf club. Grab a broomstick. Grab a pen. Whatever you have, grab a towel. You’re here. Right butt cheek back. Okay, just I’m going to concentrate on that. My right butt cheek is back. I’m going to stop. Do I feel the pressure on the ground? Okay, back. Back. Back. What we’re not doing is this. Okay. So, here we go. I am here. I have my golf club down. I’m not even thinking about my golf swing. I’m just thinking I need to have my right butt cheek back, my left knee in. So, as I go back, I can feel it. I can feel about 80% of my pressure is on this foot. Then I’m swinging. And now I’m putting 90% of my pressure on my forward foot. Okay? So, I’m going to show you again. We’re here. I have my swing. I have stacked my energy on this back foot. My hips are not going sideways. I’ve pushed this hip back. I hit. Energy transfers to my forward foot. And now I have 90% on my forward foot. See how my toe picks up? I want to see the bottom of your foot. When you do a follow through, I want to see whatever logo is back here. I want to see it every single time. Do not give me this. Do not give me that. I want to see the full sole of your right heel. If you’re a right-hand golfer, we’re here. What a lot of you will do is for some reason you’ll pick your left foot up, your left heel up as you put energy on your right foot. We don’t want that. No, nothing on your left heel should lift. Nothing on your left heel should lift. If that means you have to place something back here to remind yourself, left heel, squeeze. Squeeze that tea. So, I’m here. I’ve turned. Going to hit. And I’ve released. Okay. Number one mistake. You can do this in your house against a wall. Have your fist against the wall. I’ve done tons of these videos, which I will probably show you right now. And you’re just twisting. Have a stick. Twist. Twist. You guys, it’s really important we don’t do this. Let me hit two balls. One swaying my hips and one not swaying my hips. First one swaying my hips. Here we go. Okay, let’s do that again. You can see I’ve hit the ground first. I didn’t even get to hit the ball. Close my feet. Open my eat. I’m gonna sway my hips. I hit the ball, but you can see I hit the ground first. No swaying hips. Looks like this. Close my feet. Open my feet. Let’s do another one. You can even hear it. Right butt cheek goes back. Right butt cheek goes back. I’m going to salsa grow this one. So, I’m here. Okay, that’s what that looks like. Let me show you from the back what it looks like. Energy forward foot. energy forward foot. So, you need to help me understand if you have any questions and if you don’t see the difference between swaying your hips and twisting your hips. Another thing that came to mind that people used to always tell me to keep in mind is your back should face the target in your back swing. So, if I’m here, if I’m twisting my hips, my back should face my target. I know when you sway, you don’t actually get to have your back facing the target. So, for some of you who are visual learners or who like different ways of understanding what this means, you want to make sure that as I’m twisting, my back is facing my target. As I’m doing the salsa girl, my hips are going sideways, which is incorrect. I hope that that was a different way for you to understand.
