Golfshake followers living within easy reach of Glasgow Airport now have the advantage of being able to play the acclaimed championship course The Machrie on the island of Islay in a new day return package.

Loganair and the course’s hotel, Another Place, The Machrie, have teamed up to provide the deal. Following a 45 minute flight, which includes carriage of golf clubs, golfers can enjoy a Hebridean breakfast as they prepare for a round on the course ranked in the Top 100 in the UK.

The Machrie

After golf, players can tuck into a two course lunch at the 18 Bar & Restaurant choosing from the likes of Ardtalla venison and Loch Gruinart oysters.

There will be time to try the driving range, the sauna and hot tubs and round the day off with a dram of Islay Malt. Those who have not had enough golf can play the Hebrides, a fun course which mirrors the original layout at one-tenth of its size, before the private transfer returns visitors to the airport for an evening flight back to Glasgow.

Package prices are from £285pp from Glasgow.

Another Place, a wellness hotel brand, took ownership of the Machrie hotel in 2024 and have undertaken a number of improvements and introduced its own sense of “active relaxation” to encourage visitors to explore the island.

The golf course opened in 1891 yet recent renovations have firmly put it on the list of “must play courses.”

It’s a classic, dramatic links with several of the early holes running along the beach.
