I’ve been waiting to do this video for a little while. I have in my hands the Shrixen ZXI7 and I’m going to compare it to the Mazuno S3. [Music] Now, in terms of sole designs, we’ve got the Mizuno’s got just a little bit of a bezled edge on the front there that might help turf interaction. Shrixen is a bit different. It’s got this straight line down the middle of the blade that helps turf interaction. So both of these have got a little something that’s just trying to help them have that little bit more bounce. So while that bit sticks out a bit more, it’s just helping turf interaction. This one in the Shrixen, I’d probably say it’s helping just a little bit more because the Mazuno one is tighter to the leading edge of the face. Uh sole widths are fairly similar in these two clubs. Top lines, we are much thinner in the Mazuno and we’re much thicker on the Shrixen there. So this is maybe a bit more blade looking behind the golf ball offsetwise. So offset wise on the Shrixen we’ve got just a little bit poking out here. And then in the Mazuno we’ve got maybe a straighter leading edge here. It’s not as far forward from the face. So I would put the S3 in more of a blade category, but it does have a little bit of meat on the back here. In the Shrixen’s we’ve got these like different colored bits here. This is basically like a plug in the end of the head there that is more dense than the rest of the material in the head. So when we hit it off center, you’ve got a bit more mass to def stop the deflection, stop the twisting on the off center hit. And the Mazuno doesn’t quite have that. So I’m predicting that the Mazuno is going to be very nice off the face and very nice behind the golf ball, but maybe the Shrixen’s going to be that little bit more forgiving in a similar category because it’s just got that little bit more on it. Both of these clubs have the same shaft. We’ve got the modus 120 stiff in both irons. So, we do have a head-to-head. The swing weight is exactly the same as well because I measured it and adapted it. Although, all I had to do was change the grip. And let’s have a few Mazunos. So, this is the S3. Not my best strike, but I quite like the direction and shape of it. Just right. Just short. Let’s give myself a few just to warm up a little bit more. Wow. I mean, I’m purposely hitting them slightly off center to test how forgiving they are. If you like. So, I’m seeing quite a lot of height on here on the old Mazuno. I do tend to get a little bit more height on these shafts anyway. So, it is accompanied with a high-flying shaft. We’ll see what the other head does by comparison. That was solid, but I pulled it. So, the thing I’m looking for in an iron really for me, I’m very much looking for how consistently they land on the same number, how consistently they land there. So, the left to right for me is not as important, although it’s got some importance, but it does look absolutely gorgeous behind the golf ball. I would say is very much a proper iron. A little bit easier to draw with these shafts. Fine. There we go. Lots of height. Be interesting to see what the difference is in peak height and spin because the only difference I do have is the head. And a subtle difference in the grip. I have got a plus4 on here. So, it’s slightly bigger on that bottom hand. The other one is a standard grip with two layers of tape. They’re close enough. So, Shrixen ZXI7. Definitely looks chunkier behind the ball. So, it does still look good, but I am seeing more top line behind it. And I think going from from one club to the next, it is more noticeable because you’re changing the visuals in front of your face constantly. After I’ve had these in the bag for a while, I don’t even notice the top line. And with those in the bag, I wouldn’t look at them behind the ball and go, “Oh, that top line’s a bit thinner.” Oh, straight away feels more solid. Just feels like there’s less resistance to twisting as such. I know the technology is there to accompany that. I am going to get some high draws with these shafts, which I’m not really going to fight too much. Left and left. Same shape, same shape, same shape. And I do like there being some predictability to this. So if I have one club that is statistically launching in the same pattern repeatedly, in a fitting environment, I’d be looking to reduce that curve. In a gaming environment, I’d be looking to use that curve. Feels solid. Again, I think these shafts are giving me a lot of height and draw, which is absolutely fine for the purpose of the exercise. Going to go one more with these. A not that one. Bad swings do happen. Side note, I was looking for the result too early instead of getting through the ball like that. Just letting the club go through the ball. Let it do what it wants to do. It wants to have a high draw. Couple more with the S3. It does look nice. It’s a much squarer head. I do really like it when a golf club has a very straight leading edge. I’m not a fan of seeing too much bulge or curve on there. That’s just me, though. And then the Shrixen also has quite a straight leading edge there. So grooves wise, I don’t know if you can see this on here on the Shrixen, there’s like a milling in between the grooves. See if I can get the right angle. Yeah, there we go. So you can see like in between the grooves, there’s just that little bit of laser etching in there. And on the Mazuno, we don’t have anything like that. We just have the grooves and the face. So I kind of feel like Shrixen has just got those subtle little details extra. But this is still a gorgeous golf club. I’d be very happy with these in the golf bag sitting there because they look delightful. But do they give me the performance? So I also want to hit the Shrixen blade, the Shrixen Z forged because I almost feel like this is a little bit more towards that. Oh, it can go. It’s got some beans on it. [Music] Okay, back to the Shrixen. Yeah. Okay. So, I think there’s going to be a difference in direction from the two heads even though they’re the same law angle. But I do want to have a couple of bats with this. This is the Shrixen Z Forge. So this is their blade and I feel like it’s maybe a bit more relevant to the S3 cuz the S3 isn’t as forgiving as the ZXI7. So this is a standard low angle head. So it is more upright than the others. So I would expect the ball flight to go further left because of that factor. But I kind of want to see what the consistency is like on this and the height and the spin by comparison. Just to see if the S3 is just more like this, more like the Shrexen blade. I’ll take that bit of curve on it. This still feels more helpful than the S3. Yeah, that’s just I thought that would be the same. Got near the pin. E, one more of the Mazuno just for good measure. Just isn’t as clean. I’ll take the result. All right, so many shots need taken out. So, first two on the Mazuno colder swings. So, a few shots being taken out of the Mizuno. None being taken out of the ZXi7. And the Z Forged only had three shots in it anyway to be fair. So peak heights on the Mizuno is 116 against 116 on the Z Forged. So the height is the same with the two more bladed clubs. But then we go up to the ZXI7 and we have a height of 109. So I am getting a more a lower flight on the ZXI7. Angle of descent ZXI7 48.4. 4. I go up to 50 in the Z Forged, 50.2 in the Mazuno S3. So, it’s more comparable for height and angle of descent when we’re looking at these two clubs. So, the Mazuno had a bigger spread and the ZXR7 had a tighter spread, albeit to the left hand side. So, I didn’t get any balls flap out to the right like I did on the Mazuno. Uh, really tight dispersion ring on the Z Forge, but there was only three balls in it. Ball speed wise Z Forge then S3 basically the same launch angle launch angles here basically the same spin rates closer together we’ve got more spin on the Mazuno and a th00and less spin on the Shrixen ZX i7 so that’s why we’re getting a little bit more meat out of it but there is definitely a difference and as it happens there I feel like this is a more fair comparison I only hit three balls with the Z Forge, but we got the same basic like average data in height and closer in spin. So, we are getting lower spin with the Shrixen both heads. The bladed one, it’s closer to the Mazuno. The Mazuno has got more spin, so you’re going to get more control with that into the greens. Combo sets in Shrixen and Mazuno are both really, really good to do. I’d probably say like for your scoring clubs, the S3s are going to work really, really well. potentially I’d want a little bit more forgiveness at the top end of the bag if I was looking at a club like this. So maybe you might blend the set to whatever the next one is. I haven’t had a look. Tell me in the comments, please. But if you’re looking for a players iron that’s maybe just got a little bit more help and ease, the Stricksen ZXI7 is a very good bat, albeit a much lower spinning product which you can manipulate with shaft fittings and golf ball choices to be fair. And also, if this is spinning so high, I would also be looking at potentially a golf ball to bring that down for myself or at least look at what your golf ball’s doing with these to get that dialed in as much as possible. So, it could mean that you could use a lower spinning golf ball with these, which would then potentially benefit your driver and your long game, and then you’d maintain more spin on the Mazunos. That’s a factor. Uh, but for me, I like to choose my golf ball first before I build the rest of my golf clubs in the bag. I literally Yeah. choose golf ball first. But there we go. I’ll see you on the next video.

  1. This does not help my toxic trait of tinkering too much with the bag!! Do love the video though !!

  2. Love this! Love all 3 of the irons. Are the srixon zxi7 stronger lofted? Not sure if you mentioned it in the video? Sure the ZXi7 are 32 degree in loft in 7 iron. The mizuno s3 and forged are traditional 34 degrees in loft!

  3. Great stuff Freddie 👏🏾
Really like these comparison videos since few other folks talk about "what the miss hits look like vs center strikes"

Really love the tech and design of the Zxi series irons but as you mentioned, they are a little too low height and spin for me. Maybe if i had a few more options to try different shaft combination it might have worked better, but only had a few of the stock options to test.

I seen other reviews of the S3s and those said the same about "you are not going to get much help from off center strikes".

  4. Good vid again Freddie, can you please do a video showing the difference in feel and numbers on project x shafts ranging from the 5.0-6.5? ( if you want to delve deeper I’d love to see this breakdown over the IO and the LZ series too! )
