DESTIN, Fla. – The No. 11 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men’s golf team competed in the three-round Golfweek Invitational this week. The Gusties stood in 18th place after day one with a round of +19, moved up to 16th after shooting +12 in round two, and finished the invite tied for 14th out of the field of 24 teams after shooting -1 in the final round on Tuesday to set their three-day score at +30.

“Good way to end the weekend for the guys,” said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe. “Fun to battle with them, but you see in big tournaments like this that if you get off on the wrong foot, it’s really hard to battle back. We hung in there today and played the way we know that we can.”

Chris Gutuza and Jimmy Abdo led the Gusties at the invite, shooting +3 through the three-day competition to tie for 19th overall out of the field of 120 golfers. Gutuza had the best Gustavus round of the invite on day three, shooting -5 to lead the Gustie’s charge.

Wyatt Carlson had the third-best score the Gustavus, shooting +10 over the three-day tournament to tie for 58th place. Blake Forrest followed at +15, tying for 87th overall. Aradheea Gawade shot +21 to tie for 104th overall.

“66 by Chris today was pretty special,” said Moe. “Chris and Jimmy put together a great week. Fun to walk the fairways with these guys.”

Gustavus golf will next compete in the spring. The Gusties will continue to practice at their Drenttel Golf Facility on campus over the winter prepare for the spring season.

“It sure was fun to travel with both the men and the women this weekend,” said Moe. “We have such a great culture within our golf program. It is so fun to see them interact with each other and pull for each other the way they do. Proud to coach this group of men and women.”
