Today I played Durness, the northernmost golf course in the British Isles – a wonderful scenic course. This was my SECOND ball stolen by a large black bird today – carried off in its beak! Apologies for the swearing. We thought it was a crow but according to the club secretary they’re ravens and it’s been going on a while. They’re clever birds. I swear it was following us.

  1. Only good defense from a Raven I have seen all year…

You mean second ball stolen by the same bird.

I think this was gonna be Poe’s title but he opted for something more subtle instead

Looks like he improved your position 😁

I play a local course where the ravens love the yellow balls for some reason, only the yellows.

  6. And that’s why I keep mine in my wife’s purse.

    That’s why it’s called a birdie

That’s considered good luck, in Haiti.

Same thing happened to my buddy in Florida. Only the colored balls would get snatched by the raven, not the white ones.

Had more than one ground squirrel haul away my ball.

“ I’ve got a shot at Birdie on this hole”

    “Quote the raven, “nevermore.”

    Genuine question:

What does the rules say about animals tampering with ball lies? Do you get a free drop?

New excuse unlocked when I can’t find my ball that I know is just off the fairway

This happens at a little country course in Gippsland, Victoria. I thought I was seeing things the first time and had just lost my ball but then it happened again 2 holes later.

A local later told me they carry air rifles in their bags. 😲
They don’t need to shoot at them (anymore) just the sound of it being cocked gets the bird to back off.

  16. Ive had them steal my blueberry muffin before, but never a golf ball

Happens regularly at Barnbougle Dunes too (maybe crows?).

Oh man, that’s wild! Ravens are sneaky little buggers, aren’t they?
