Former All Black centre Joe Stanley and Silver Ferns legend Julie Coney share more than a love of sport – they also have a passion for golf.

“It’s just such a fun thing to do as a couple – we often pick a course somewhere, throw the clubs in the car and go have a great day,” says Julie.

The Paradise Coast Golf Classic returns for its third edition this year and continues to grow in profile, prizes and sponsor support. Based around Tairua Golf and Country Club, Pauanui Lakes Resort and Whangamatā Golf Club, the three-day tournament (November 27–29) will host up to 120 players competing for more than $10,000 in prizes.

The top prize is a random draw from all entries for a unique golfing experience at the world-renowned Te Arai Links, valued at over $3000. Players who record a two over the three days will also go in the draw to win a Jayco Auckland seven-day motorhome tour.

“What I like about the tournament,” says Julie, “is the couple’s focus. A lot of tournaments are either men’s or women’s – this, with the higher handicap ceilings, means a lot more can play together. Joe and I are really looking forward to it and to meeting all you keen golfers.”

Limited entries remain, with the field expected to fill by the end of October.
