Not to be a killjoy, but act like you’ve been there before kid. When you pull a great shot out of your backside, what irks your opponents more: a simple tip of the cap and wry smile while you pluck your ball from the cup, knowing that your opponent is crumbling? Or making a big show and hugging your dad?
Some kid hugged their dad during a match with me back in the 1980s. Good for him. I then won the next 5 holes and closed him out 5&4. Look at me now. I’m a tough guy posting on Reddit! That’s a life lesson for you.
Gotta play it cool. High school golf is about shaving strokes and winning. But winners never shave strokes. They also play it cool when they make birdies, and play it even cooler when they make doubles.

Played 9 with my kid yesterday. On one, he dropped a pitch from 90 yards 10 inches from the hole. He acted like it was not big deal. I felt just like this girl did, all I wanted to do was hug him!
