LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Coastal Carolina men’s golf team turned in a steady performance on Monday, carding an 11-under 565 (283-282) to finish the opening day of the Everett Buick GMC Classic tied for fifth at Chenal Country Club.

Three Chanticleers — Max Bengtsson, Jack Lee and Drew Sykes — each posted a 3-under 141 to sit tied for 16th individually after 36 holes.

Sykes opened strong with a 3-under 69 in the morning round and followed with an even-par 72 in the afternoon. He tallied seven birdies and an eagle on the day. Bengtsson also sank eight birdies across his two rounds, recording scores of 72 and 69, while Lee matched those rounds with seven birdies and an eagle of his own.

Freshman Harrison James fired a 2-under 70 in the first round before carding a 5-over 75 in the second to sit at 1-over 145, tied for 38th alongside teammate Coleman Ferguson, who is competing as an individual. Freshman Santiago Schele posted a 2-over 146 (74-72) to tie for 44th.

Host Little Rock holds an 11-shot lead in the team standings at 23-under 553 (277-276). Southern Miss (284-280) and Lipscomb (276-288) are tied for second at 12-under 564, while Coastal Carolina shares fifth place with James Madison (284-281) at 11-under 565.

Lipscomb’s Minas Manias leads the individual field at 11-under 133 (64-69), holding a one-stroke advantage over three players tied at 10-under 134.

The Everett Buick GMC Classic wraps up Tuesday, Oct. 14, with the final round. Coastal Carolina will be paired with Little Rock, Lipscomb and Southern Miss.
