Tiger Woods announced he has undergone his seventh back surgery.
This time, the golf legend sought to address a collapsed disc and compromised spinal canal.
Taking to social media, Woods gave an official update of his health status.
“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken,” Woods wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments, and a compromised spinal canal,” the post continued. “I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.
“On Friday, Tiger underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery in his L4/5 Lumbar spine for lower back symptoms,” the post went on. “The surgery was deemed successful and performed by Dr Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.”
In his statement, Woods did not mention how long he expected to be in recovery or when he plans to return to the golf course. He was slated to play in his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas or the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie in December.
Over the last decade, Woods has suffered numerous injuries and undergone several surgeries. In April 2014, he had his first of seven back surgeries, which caused him to have his lower back fused in 2017.
After being in a serious car accident in February 2021, he shattered his right leg and ankle, which almost led to an amputation.
Making an amazing recovery, he won the 2019 Masters.
Back in 2021, Woods said it was “an unfortunate reality” that he cannot return to golf full-time.
“I think something that is realistic is playing the Tour one day — never full time, ever again — but pick and choose, just like Mr. Hogan did and you play around that,” Woods shared.
“You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. I think that’s how I’m going to have to play it from now on. It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it.”
