Behind the Scenes: Wedding photography at Tilling House At Suneagles Golf Club in New Jersey

[Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Hey. Hey. We’re at the Tilling House in Eatentown, New Jersey by the shore, and we have Ross and Lex’s wedding today. So, this is my first time shooting here at a wedding, but I’ve been here before shooting real estate photos and head shots for the team. Um, you see me with some sunglasses on now. They’re actually the Raven Meadows. I highly recommend it for BTS roles if you’re a photographer. Um, and I’ll be just, you know, showing you guys around a wedding day, what it’s like to shoot here at Tilling House and where the best spots for photos are. And just if you’re a photographer, you’re going to learn some tips and tricks and all of that throughout the day. Pete, if you want to show yourself, hey, he’s actually behind the camera filming behind the scenes. um and maybe ask some questions to help you guys learn a little bit more. But yeah, we’re starting with some detail shots and then we’re going to head to some bridal portraits and stay on time. That is always the goal. [Music] Okay, so if you are a wedding photographer and a client has asked you to shoot their wedding at a wedding wedding venue that you’ve never shot at before, I highly recommend getting there early, especially if their wedding is all at one place and just get a scout of the land or schedule a tour with them. Um, and if they’re not available, just ask the venue if you can show up and do a tour yourself to just get a layout of land, do some venue shots, just to see where all the good spots are. Um, now it’s not highly recommend or highly required because you’re a wedding photographer, you’re creative, you’ll figure it out. Um, but I think those are some ways that you can elevate your business and give that luxury experience to the client is that you are they’re going to make they’re going to feel more confident in you. Um, and same if you are a couple watching this and you’re looking to hire your dream photographer, but they never shot at your ben. You just ask those questions. If they’ll come and tour it before the wedding, meet you guys there, or just show up early in the day so they can get an idea of where to shoot on the edge on the We have one more, right? Yes. Everyone else find a spot like on top. So if you girls can stand up, they’re going to kind of sit on top. Oh, sit on top of my leg. So, you’re not pressing your legs forward. You’re going at a 45° angle, but preferably coming towards legs. So, turn switch like angles of your legs. Yes, you’re all going straight. Um, yours is actually picking your favorite angle. So, let’s now you’re going to pretend you’re wearing this but really stretch out one leg. Yep. Perfect. And you’re also going to turn beautiful and stretch out the legs. I’m having so close to my house. Everyone’s looking at my camera. And then at any time when this bottle pops, get very excited. You’re thirsty or it desert. It’s been 10 days. So, you’ll take anything at this point. Okay. So, should I start working my way? You might It might be a while. Try not to let the pork pop at the ceiling in your eye. No pressure. Oh gosh. Try not to double chin either. Keep those out. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Slowly, slowly. [Music] Y the going to get married. Going to the get married. [Music] [Applause] Good luck. I love I’m just doing some portraits while we Oh my gosh. Look outside. And then back at me. This looks great. Are these like gifted from somebody or you’re like they’re not for it? Okay. So, next we’ll have you open this. If you do start crying, let me just have a tissue. Got it all. Sorry. No, you’re good. Oh, I have to read it out loud, right? Um, do you need him? Only if you want to. You don’t need Do you want it recorded? We’d have to tell him to do it, too. Yeah. No, I don’t think Okay. Just read it to yourself. Yeah. So, read it. You can read it to yourself. Oh, this whole thing. Is everything ruined? I might not get If your dress can’t do it, you might have to ask someone else. No, I can’t. I can do it. She dress like I can do. She’s like, “No, let me do it.” I was all one day. Oh, wow. Um back and then there come more at like an angle right there. Awesome. Sorry. You’re in this too. The button preferably in the front like we’re just going to be like zipping it and they’re going to do the buttons. Okay. Yeah. So, we’re faking the buttons right now. Yeah. Zipping buttons everything. Just do it all. Good job. You got this. It’s literally perfect. And everyone just kind of gather around her and just go for a little group hug here. Yeah. Cheek to cheek. Oh, love that. Perfect. Right there. Cute. But the problem is I not need to get home and get dragged on her back. You know what I mean? So, she needs to also get her home enough time. Try not to be directly behind her only cuz I want to see your pretty face, too. Don’t be fine. Perfect. And you’re just going to have a conversation with each girl. Maybe talk about I don’t know what you’re looking forward to, what song you’re probably going to go crazy at tonight. I have to here already. Yeah, I have the van leader. Our van leader. I hear you guys. That’s pretty. You going to look at each girl? Perfect. And give her a piece of advice. Homework advice. Yeah, you first. Oh my god, you’re always wondering. Okay, I’ll continue to go. You know what I’m going to actually pop the other leg. So to make that one straight and the other one. Yeah, that way. So yeah, the back and the heel. They took the stuffing out of the back of the I did actually for the pictures cuz it’s easy for them to be like, “Oh, it’s too I That was my passion project.” the heart. Really? Yeah. It was like the one DIY thing I did. Gorgeous. All right. You’re going to look over at me. And then you’re going to bring your shoulder up. Beautiful. Bring it across the body. Back behind the body. I’m going to take a little bit more time with you cuz no. The hand, the left hand, keep it on your lap. But the other one, can it stretch back a little bit? for posture. Perfect. Gorgeous. Back in. [Music] Okay. So, when you enter the room, just kind of go like this and scoot to like the side so everyone can fill in together. Um, and then I’ll tell you when to open. Okay. So, come on in. I can’t. No. No. No. Mila. Mila. Right here. Wait. What is that hair? Hi. Perfect. Do you like my nervous room for the I want the reflection. So don’t stay in front of the mirror. Come right here. Babe, stay where you are. Because you’re wearing yellow. Can you come on that side? Yeah. Okay. Come closer. Green separate. Lea. So, okay. So, can somehow you guys come right over here? Am I included in that? Yeah. Can you come over here, too? And you’re gonna have to squat down a little bit. Yeah. Perfect. You like where I am? Yep. Okay. Three. You’re going to count. Okay. Ready? Yes. One, two, three. So pretty. Oh my gosh. Like love. is my mom. I’m obsessed. It’s beautiful. [Music] How pretty is she? You like it? So pretty. Oh my gosh. Yes, that’s it. Oh, it’s basically all your favorite people. Wow. So, for first, I definitely don’t want you to worry about like I know there’s a lot of cameras, so don’t look at the cameras until you guys are ready for like actual portraits. I want you to just be the moment or wedding day. Um, and no tapping on the shoulder. If you did that, he’s going to see like this close. I want you to see like Okay. So, you’re gonna say something to him. When we’re ready, we’ll give you the cue. Um, you’ll be like, “Wait, whatever you call them. Turn around. Let go of the veil if you can, hun. Just walk with your hands in front.” Beautiful. Pause there. Ryanbody. No. Okay. Whenever you’re ready. Okay. Good job. All right, guys. Left hand. [Music] Oh, yeah. All right. Right here. One, two, and three. Look at my one. Good. And we’re going to look each other. Perfect for tennis. And then you’re going to grab the wrist. So your ring be like that. And just kind of move your hands around just like they’re just playing with each other’s hands. Let go a little bit. Release. and then grab them again. Let go completely and go to grab hair. If you want, you can flirt with it, but your hands together this way. And that’s basically it. That easy. Okay. Hey, perfect. Looking at each other a little bit. Yeah, perfect. Stop there. I want to get your bouquet. Now start walking the bouquet. Swinging it around as you walk. And thumbs up a little bit. You’re a little trunky. You have too many ice. I love that. Okay, we’re going to go to the next one. Come on. I want your head to be on his back shoulder hanging on that. Good. So for one more cycle just move your bodies like sway left and right and move your hands around each other. All right. Can you try and twirl her a little bit? [Applause] Everyone clap. Everyone swirl. Okay. All right. Okay. So, everyone’s going to do a walking shot. Just be careful not stepping on her train. You also don’t want to be directly behind her either, so I can see you in the shot. As you’re walking, I want you guys to look at each other and just say, “You’re so pretty.” Um, and get a scatter a little bit here, the five of you. Yeah. Separate one forward, one back scenario. All right. As you walk, start to say, “You’re so pretty.” [Applause] [Music] And look at the bride. You’re so pretty. In your front pocket. Oh, Tim. Tim. Tim. Tim. AJ. Tim. AJ. Okay. Get closer. top button of your jackets, gents. Hand in your front pockets, gents. Front pocket of your pants. Great. Perfect. All right. Right here. Looking right at my camera. Don’t look at anyone else’s. One, two, three. Everyone on the count of three, you’re going to say kitties as fast as you can. As much as you can for 10 seconds. Say kitties. Try not to Say any other word that rhymes over and over. Over and over. Okay. Ready, set, go. All right. Good. Who that is? Okay. Perfect. All right, everyone crowd around them like it’s a photo booth. So, photobomb their picture. One, two, three. Get in there. Go out another pose. Somebody jump up in the air. Yeah. All right, guys. We um just shot all of the portraits before the wedding. So, one of the things is if you’re having a wedding at one location where you’re not switching venues, like a ceremony spot or whatever, it is so recommended to do a first look or else all of your photos are going to be crammed during cocktail hour. And if it’s only an hour, it’s honestly not enough time uh to do all those portraits. and you’re going to feel really stressed out because you’re like, “Oh my god, like people aren’t here when they were supposed to be here cuz they’re mingling at cocktail hour. They forgot they were supposed to take photos, blah blah blah.” So, it’s really, really recommended to have your portraits at first look before the ceremony cuz now the couple can just chill and have the best time. The only other time to pull them out for portraits for the rest of the evening is 15 minutes before the ballroom opens for the guests. They have a private moment rehearsing their entrances or practice their first dance. Um, and then maybe a night shot. So, if they wanted to shoot, let’s say the bride changes into another outfit, we can get her at the bar doing a fun like flash photography photo. But I don’t like to take them away more than like 15 minutes of their reception because it’s a party and it’s supposed to be like celebrating and they spent so much money on this wedding day. So, I want them to be with their guests. We traveled all around for them. Another thing is golden hour because it is a summer wedding is later in the evening. So, we are going to pull him out a little bit longer out of the reception for that later today. Um, but that doesn’t always happen at every single wedding and we got really lucky today with good weather. So, it’s going to happen and they really want it. So, yeah, that’s what’s about to happen. Um, and what already happened uh for family photos and uh the wedding party shots. Um there were some people not there when we needed them there, but I’m very grateful I had a team to help wrangle and people in the wedding party to help find people. Um but that’s going to happen. So that’s why I leave little wiggle room um in the timeline so of these things that do happen. Uh but yeah, anyway, so it’s a success. Uh we definitely ended up on time, which is my favorite thing not to be elite. Um, and now we’re just capturing details before the ceremony and uh that’s it. So follow along. Okay, so for the ceremony, I am going to stand up at the front getting everyone walking down the aisle. Uh, and then also turning my head to capture the groom’s reaction. My second photographer does the documentary stuff like the jitters right before walking down the aisle. So, he hangs out where the bridal party are in the back waiting to walk in, capturing that moment, and then follows the bride from behind and captures the reactions of the guest walking as she’s walking down the aisle. Um, and he or she or they, whatever, are going to squat low enough so when I’m shooting in the direction of the bride walking in, I usually don’t see them, but sometimes it does happen. But, thank you, AI. They usually mask them out. Um, but yeah, so that’s kind of how the ceremony works for photography. And with two photographers, you have one really focusing on reactions of the guests, especially the front row because those are like the VIPs. Um, and then I’m really focusing on the couple’s reaction throughout their ceremony. So, we kind of like work that out as two photographers because if it’s just me, I have to kind of do it all, but I’m probably going to miss something because I don’t have another set of eyes. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] So, uh, there’s a couple things that I’ve kind of wondered about. um just how it works with balancing one like what your second is shooting versus what you’re shooting and like their style versus your style. Like do you look for somebody that who’s already similar to you or do you expect them to like tweak like I just No, honestly, if they’re different, that’s really good. I wrote out on his uh there’s like an envelope I gave him with instructions on how I want his camera settings and then with that it gets as close as it can be for editing post-processing because at the end of the day he’s going to have his own style the way he shoots and I will give as many like photo references and ideas of how I like my seconds to shoot. Uh but you know it’s their style and that’s okay. Um, but I edit at the end of the day and I think most couples are looking at their wedding photos, uh, when they see like my work or whatever, they’re seeing the editing style more than anything. So, they’re going to get that cohesiveness based on our camera settings. And I do want my photographers, my seconds to shoot very creatively. I shoot for um safely and then they get like shots like going through flowers or finding a bush to shoot through or getting a different perspective that I can’t get because I’m the main so I have to get the main shots. Yeah. Uh but yeah, I hope that answers your question. I want you to turn your attention over here. [Music] Okay. So, for reception, if you notice at the sweetheart table or the community sweetheart table, whatever you want to call it, um there are going to be flowers on the table and usually it blocks the couple’s face, but they’re always so pretty, but I have to move them because in pictures of reactions during speeches, it blocks our face temporarily. It’s getting moved. So, florist, if you’re watching this, please move the flowers. And couples, if you’re watching this, don’t worry. They’ll be put back on the table after the speeches. And if you’re a photographer watching this, do it. Your couples will thank you later, cuz you’ll get their reactions during sentimental moments. Ready? And it’s party time. Let’s go. [Music] Hey,
