The greenskeeper has gone rogue ….. or lost his mind. My bet is that someone pissed him off.
Kinda seems easy? Get it to that fringe then it’s a short putt. Or that’s what I picture before I 4 putt it anyways.
Why tf you aiming at a pin barely on the green?
Aim middle, push it 5 yards, have an easy 2 putt, maybe make it…
This had to have been placed by someone new to the grounds crew who doesn’t play golf…

Greenskeepers often do this to keep traffic off the middle of the green to either keep it nice for an upcoming event or allow it to heal after an event
greens guy has a gout issue.
We have some new computer generated pin placement technology at our courses and it sometimes does this.
that certainly doesn’t follow the guidelines of pin placements. prolly show that picture in the pro shop.

Every piece of advice I’ve gotten said “hit the middle of the green and putt”. Makes sense with pins like that. Ultimate sucker pin.
Never thought I’d see the day Monona golf course made it on reddit. Greens keepers revenge with prizes on every hole. Longest putt for the tough pins. Closest to the hole with no pins.
This is a hole I’d have a GIR but its on the completely opposite side.
Maintenance was in a real bad mood that morning ..

Oh, I love it when they set up for a revenge tournament. Lots of extra chips and putts, and you pray to be within 20 of the norm.
I’ve played big tournaments with pins 2-3 paces on.

That’s an illegal pin all pins must be one flag length away from the edge that one’s illegal get ICE over here
That’s not even green… That is literally ON the fringe. You can clearly see the line between fringe and green to the left of the cup.
Played a city championship with multiple pins this close and there were so many complaints…their response was that there’s no rule against placing the pin two feet away from the fringe.
Good reminder to not go for the pin unless you’re sure it’s a good landing spot
Have been seeing more bad pins at our home course and many others we play lately. Up on knobs, crests, ridges, too close to edges, and too close to old holes that haven’t healed. Am wondering if it’s this pin placement software? Or a new generation of superintendents that haven’t been educated on USGA or PGA pin placement recommendations? Or head pros with limited tournament experience?
