ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – It’s been a jam-packed couple of weeks for Lukas Rossow.

The senior at Pecatonica High School has led Du-Pec to a 5-1 overall record as the starting quarterback of the football team. On top of that, he’s qualified through each round of the IHSA 1A golf playoffs.

Things ramped up for Rossow on Wednesday, October 1st. Lukas had to miss football practice to compete in the Pearl City Regional for golf. He returned to practice the next day.

“He’s always in contact with us about when he knows he’s going to miss time during the week for golf,” his football coach, Kyle DeMus, said. “He’s asking what he needs to know about the game plan, what he’s going to miss on the nights that he’s going to be gone. We never had to approach it directly because he brought it to us to start.”

On Friday, October 3rd, the senior played in one of the biggest football games in the Rockford area against Byron. Rossow had both a rushing and passing touchdown as the Rivermen lost 42-14.

Lukas quickly set his sights on the golf course for the Cambridge Sectional on Monday. He made it to the sectional playoff last year, but missed the state finals by three strokes.

“The front nine was pretty rough. I was hitting the ball pretty well, but I really struggled on the green,” Lukas said when talking about his performance this year in sectionals. “On the back nine, we cleaned it up.”

Rossow secured one of the last three spots in the 1A state championship after competing in a five-man playoff.

That meant he had to miss Du-Pec’s road game against Forreston on Friday night. The Rivermen took care of business regardless, winning 34-20.

During the two-day event, Lukas shot 77-79 (+12) on Friday and Saturday. He finished tied for 19th.

With everything that was just mentioned, it’s clear that Lukas is a great athlete. However, those around the team compliment his character.

“His attitude and his positivity are contagious; you can tell a difference when he’s on the practice field or in the weight room, or really anywhere you are,” said DeMus. “He’s just a phenomenal kid. I can’t say enough about him as a person, let alone an athlete, and a successful one at that.

“I definitely try my best at all times to stay positive when I’m around my teammates, just bring them up and always keep a smile because that’s what it’s all about.”
