Signs of peace may be emerging at the RDER Cup, at least inside the ropes. Scotty Sheoffller’s caddy, Ted Scott, has publicly apologized to European vice captain Francesco Molinari after a heated confrontation erupted during a tense Saturday afternoon at Beth Page Black. The incident began when Sheffller and Bryson Shambo were seen angrily confronting Justin Rose as the players walked off the 15th green. By the time the groups reached the 16th TE, tensions had flared further with Tommy Fleetwood, his caddy Ian Finnies, and to Shambo’s caddyy Greg Bodin also getting involved. Scott himself was caught on camera remmonstrating with Molinari. Clearly still frustrated about the dispute over playing order on the previous hole. The confusion had stemmed from who was first to putt. Rose rolled his in, followed quickly by Dashambo, sparking the argument that nearly spiraled out of control. It was Finn’s who ultimately stepped in to cool the situation that on Sunday, Scott sought to set the record straight. In an Instagram video posted alongside Molinari before the singles matches, he stressed that the matter was resolved long before cameras stopped rolling. This guy right here has always been such a sweet spirited man, Scott said with his arm around Molinari. We had a heated moment yesterday, but by the time we got to the 16th T, it was over. Neither of us wants to make the competition about us. We want the players to go out there and do their thing. I just want to say I’m sorry and I appreciate you. Molinari responded warmly. I have so much admiration for you. Rose, who went on to clinch another full point for Europe with Fleekwood, offered his own perspective on the exchange. It was a shame the match reached that point because it was actually a really great contest, Rose said. I was waiting to putt while the boys were working on their read and calculations. I waited a few seconds, then asked, “It’s my putt, right?” Maybe I didn’t phrase it as politely as I could in the heat of the moment, but there was no disrespect intended. Unfortunately, it was taken the wrong way. With apologies exchanged and respect reaffirmed, the hope is that the focus will now return to the players and the competition itself.

  1. Ted Scott was disgusting. To behave like he did when players were engrossed in the middle of a tournament ! Pathetic

  2. useless after the fact, unforgiveable,he tried to change the outcome, typical from an american.

  3. Any sport with the USA involved apparently needs an umpire to through people off the field for unsportsmanlike conduct or ban alcohol

  4. Ted, good idea to publicly apologize for unbecoming conduct. Remember one very important fact. You are a cog in the NIL Brand of Scottie Scheffler. Everything you do and say reflects on that Brand.
Verbally and physically confronting and assaulting other players and officials makes you a liability to that brand. Caddies are a dime a dozen, a
commodity. Scottie can win with any caddie and did it this year.
Loyalty works both ways in every relationship, until it doesn't. Controlling your emotions, words, and actions are your primary duties secondary to wiping clubs and giving yardage. If I'm Scottie's agent, we had this conversation years ago, we will not ever have it again.
