A man was arrested by the New York State Police on Saturday after allegedly stealing a golf cart from the Ryder Cup. Crescenzo Stasi, a 38-year-old of Westbury, N.Y., was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property, both of which are misdemeanors.

According to a police statement, troopers found the cart in the possession of someone else, who told them that Stasi had said that they would be utilizing the golf cart for the day to drive patrons to and from the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

“The operator had no knowledge the cart was stolen and believed it to be the property of Stasi,” said Beau Duffy, executive director of public information for the New York State Police. “Upon further investigation by the New York State Police, it was determined that Stasi observed the golf cart parked on Winding Road in the town of Oyster Bay and used it without permission.”

Winding Road is adjacent to holes 10-13 of the Black Course.

On Saturday, the second day of competition at the Ryder Cup, fans repeatedly heckled Team Europe, with Rory McIlroy receiving the most abuse. He repeatedly stepped away from shots as fans shouted obscenities and personal insults. The PGA of America, which runs the Ryder Cup, increased the police presence accompanying McIlroy’s match in an effort to regain control, ejecting several fans as well.

Team Europe finished the day with an 11 1/2 to 4 1/2 lead over Team USA, needing just 2 1/2 more points to retain the trophy.
