President Donald Trump was able to chuckle about needing a lot of security — after nearly being assassinated multiple times — during a round of golf with his granddaughter, Kai Trump, that she posted to her YouTube channel on Saturday.
Kai Trump, as the president drove the golf cart they were using between holes, pointed out there were plenty of Secret Service members off-camera.
“The security is all down the line. It’s smart. You had too many close calls,” she said.
“I had some close calls,” Trump said nonchalantly after a short pause. “That’s true, honey.”
Trump was the target of two assassination attempts last year — one at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet hit Trump’s ear before killing firefighter Corey Comperatore, and another months later at his West Palm Beach golf course. Ryan Routh, a 59-year-old man, was found guilty last month of attempting to kill Trump in that second attempt.
The president also discussed global politics with his 18-year-old granddaughter in the video. On the Russia-Ukraine War, Trump told her that he will “hopefully get [Vladimir] Putin and [Volodymyr] Zelensky to stop killing everybody” soon.
They also discussed lighter topics.
Kai Trump asked her grandpa about his favorite golfers, and he said he was fond of Jack Nicholson, Tiger Woods, and Gary Player, as well as current stars like Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Dechambeau; President Trump said Scheffler was “great” and that he “loved” Dechambeau.
The president also talked about his son, Barron Trump, calling him a “good boy” — but that he wished he had joined him and Kai for the 18 holes. And as for other Trump Trivia, the president said his favorite color is red — and that it probably has to be, even if it wasn’t, because it represents Make America Great Again.
And when his granddaughter asked for his “best advice,” Trump said it is “to love” what you do, “otherwise you’re not going to do it well.”
They also talked a lot about golf, as you could have probably guessed. So if that is your thing, there is plenty of it.
