The developer overseeing an upmarket project overlooking the world-famous Swilcan Bridge has declared the new “landmark” will enhance the St. Andrews skyline.

It was revealed earlier this week that the owners of a 1960s family property have secured a multi-million pound funding package to build four townhouses on the site ahead of the 2027 Open in St. Andrews. The 70-week construction program is being supported by a financing package from Shawbrook Bank.

The former home, which has now been demolished, has been used on multiple occasions as the studio for Sky Sports during The Open at St. Andrews. With panoramic views of the 1st and 18th fairways alongside the 17th green, the properties are being promoted as the “Best View in World Golf” with prices starting from $8.4 million.

“For decades, the site has been used as a private family residence,” the developer said. “The existing building on the plot, however, was dated and of ‘low architectural merit’ for such a prominent location.

“Recognizing an opportunity to both improve the site and contribute positively to St. Andrews, the family has initiated plans to redevelop the property into four high-quality townhouses. The vision is to replace the old house with a landmark development that harmonises with the surrounding conservation area and golfing landscape, ensuring the new structures enhance rather than detract from the famous skyline across the Old Course.”
