In the immediate aftermath of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, and in the midst of controversy surrounding comments made by the PGA of America to BBC Northern Ireland’s Stephen Watson in which the figurehead refused to condemn the nature of the heckling and suggested that the American team had been on the receiving end of similar in Rome back in 2023, rumours began to circulate that Don Rea, the under fire chief, had taken to the stage in the team’s families’ hotel on Saturday night and started ‘spitting bars’.
This, of course, came when the United States team were being soundly beaten and looked on course to suffer a record defeat before the dramatic Sunday comeback, and shortly after the heckling and abuse on course had gotten to the point where Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry were responding in kind.
And now, footage of the now infamous karaoke incident has surfaced.
‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem might seem a strange choice for a near-60-year-old, but in this instance, we’re here to report, not to judge. But some online posters have taken to calling him ‘D-Rabbit’, referencing the B-Rabbit character name that the famous Detroit rapper played in the movie 8 Mile and for which the song was written.
