Standing on the tee of a 500+ yard par 5, what’s your game plan?
Here’s how GOLFTEC Coaches break it down: stay safe, avoid wasted strokes, and pick a smart target line.
What’s your go-to par 5 strategy? ⬇️

So, I’m looking at my Golf Tech app now and we are on a 506 yard par five. So, Micah, when you’re seeing this hole, what is some strategy that you have going through your head? So, the big thing is remembering one that you have three shots to reach the screen. The other thing I look at is just making sure we don’t get ourselves in trouble with our T-shot. Obviously, a par five being longer. We don’t want a really long difficult approach shot in cuz we’re going to start wasting strokes. I typically drive it about like 230. And at the 230 mark, we’re just at some sand bunkers. So, picking our most northern point or our furthest point that we need to carry in order to be in safety, the edge of that left fairway bunker. Now, we need to pick a smart target point or target line. So, what I’m going to say is we’re going to split those traps. Okay, those traps, you tend to fade the ball a little bit more. So, we should be plenty fine on that right fairway trap. But, in the case that we hang one straight or pull it a little bit, we’ll also be able to carry that uh left fairway trap. Okay, perfect.
